Crocodile victim celebrating end of friend's cancer treatment

A woman killed by a crocodile in Australia's north was celebrating the end of her friend's cancer treatment.
Cindy Waldron, 46, was swimming at Thornton Beach near Cairns in Queensland state when a crocodile dragged her away.
Her friend, 47-year-old Leeann Mitchell, tried to pull her to safety, police said.
Ms Waldron had travelled from New South Wales to be with Ms Mitchell as she completed her treatment.
Media reports said the pair, both originally from New Zealand, were walking arm-in-arm in knee-deep water before the attack, which occurred in Australia's Daintree National Park.
Nine News reported that witnesses heard Ms Waldron yell: A croc's got me, a croc's got me.
The last fatal attack in the area occurred in 2009, according to the Australian Broadcasting Corp.
A search for Ms Waldron's body was set to resume on Tuesday morning.
Neil Noble, of the Queensland state ambulance service, said a 5m (16ft) crocodile had been reported in the area.
'An avoidable tragedy'
Residents told Australian media that the area was a known crocodile habitat.
Local MP and former crocodile farmer Warren Entsch said the area was popular with crocodile-spotting tours and there were many warning signs.
This is a tragedy but it was avoidable, he told reporters.
If you go in swimming at 10 o'clock at night, you're going to get consumed.
Daintree Rainforest Journey Day 2 Thornton Beach and Mount Sorrow Rainforest Hiking Trek
I drove up to the Daintree Rainforest from Cairns, crosses the Daintree River using an automobile ferry, checked out beautiful Thornton Beach, walked deep into the Daintree Rainforest along the Mount Sorrow walking trek, climbed trees deep in the Rainforest, was snagged by the barb wire like vines of the Lawyer Vine plant, filmed the Northern Jewel Spider and finished up eating the best ice cream I've ever tasted.

Thornton Beach and Presentation
A trip to Thornton Beach (3/30/2019). The short clip at the end was from a presentation I gave for the PSA (Pacific Sociological Association) in Oakland. Since we were in the area, my friends and I decided to head to Thornton Beach since I had fond memories of it from last time.

Devils Thumb - Manjal Jimalji Trail: Back Country Bliss Adventures
Located north of Mossman Gorge; in the World Heritage-listed Daintree National Park, this challenging 10km-return walk is steep, but offers guests a truly unique experience.
As you make your way up the trail, walk through a variety of terrain ranging from lowland rainforest to a coral fern-dotted clearing 1000m up. Scramble over boulders to reach the lookout of Devils Thumb; a large boulder overhanging the rainforest below. Enjoy sublime views across the Main Coast Range, the coast line and Coral Sea to the East.
The views and abundant birdlife to spot, make the hard work worthwhile.
