Meizhou - The Hakka Capital of China
Meizhou is known as the Hakka capital of China. The Hakka people fled from the northern parts of China to get away from the wars (a very long time ago).
Today, a large percentage of Hakka people live outside of China, extending as far as South America. They have a very distinct building style (half moon shaped settlements), to protect themselves from invaders, with a pond outside to put out potential fires.
We were fortunate enough to visit Nankou Hakka Town outside of Meizhou, but you can see the half moon shaped buildings all over Meizhou city as well.
In addition to that we visited:
Hakka Museum
Hakka Opera
TheThousand Buddha’s Tower
We also got to experience Chinese hospitality when our hosts friend invited us to his restaurant and everything was on the house.

[TV ZONE] The Wonders of a Thousand Buddhas and a Thousand Pagodas, Unjusa Temple Site in Hwasun
Legend has it that the State Preceptor Doseon used his great powers to build 1,000 Buddha statues and 1,000 in the course of a single night. The temple is thought to have prospered until the mid or late Goryeo Period. Although only the temple's foundation remains, a Thousand Buddhas and a Thousand Pagodas are said to have survived until the early Joseon Period. Now, only seventy stone Buddha statues and seventeen stone pagodas remain at the site. These folksy stone Buddha statues carved in awkward positions and stone pagodas with peculiar patterns provide us with valuable insights into the local culture in Goryeo times.

[TV ZONE] The Octagonal Nine-story Stone Pagoda of Woljeongsa Temple
Iryeon, who was a renowned Buddhist monk of the late Goryeo Period, selected Odaesan Mountain as the most auspicious site on the Korean Peninsula, and as the place where Buddhism would greatly prosper. Woljeongsa Temple is located at the foot of the mountain, and is famous for the needle fir forest that lines the path to the temple. The forest is full of almost 1,700 needle firs. Most of which are more than 80 years old. It is called a forest of a thousand years because it shares the history of the temple. At the end of this beautiful trail, visitors can see the cultural heritages that represent the magnificent Buddhist culture of the Goryeo Dynasty. These include, the Octagonal Nine-story Stone Pagoda, which is regarded as the greatest stone pagoda to be built during the early Goryeo Period, and the sarira reliquaries that were discovered inside the pagoda.
Deng Xiaoping
Deng Xiaoping (Pinyin: Dèng Xiǎopíng, [tɤŋ˥˩ ɕjɑʊ˩ pʰiŋ˧˥] ( ); 22 August 1904 – 19 February 1997) was a Chinese politician and reformist leader of the People's Republic of China who, after Mao Zedong's death, led his country towards a market economy. While Deng never held office as the head of state, head of government or General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (de jure leader of the Communist Party of China), he nonetheless was the paramount leader of the People's Republic of China from 1978 to 1992. As the core of the second-generation leaders, Deng shared his power with several powerful older politicians commonly known as the Eight Elders.
Born into a peasant background in Guang'an, Sichuan, Deng studied and worked in France in the 1920s, where he was influenced by Marxism-Leninism. He joined the Communist Party of China in 1923. Upon his return to China he worked as a political commissar in rural regions and was considered a revolutionary veteran of the Long March. Following the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, Deng worked in Tibet and other southwestern regions to consolidate Communist control.

Goddess of the Sea, Machour/Mazu in different Chinese names.
She came in my dream in November, 2011.
Then I saw her large statue in a Joss-sticks shop as I went window-shopping with Overseas' friend visiting Sydney.
I got a smaller statue and she is now gracing our balcony at home.
Then when I travelled to Singapore and Malaysia, I spotted her in so many temples.
I understand that we get to know the name of a Deity, only when the Time is Ripe!
We should only feel Blessed and be Thankful for it, that is All!

Guangzhou (simplified Chinese: 广州; traditional Chinese: 廣州; Cantonese pronunciation: [kʷɔ̌ːŋ.tsɐ̂u] or [kʷɔ̌ːŋ.tsɐ́u] (listen); Mandarin pronunciation: [kwàŋ.ʈʂóu] (listen)), also known as Canton, is the capital and most populous city of the province of Guangdong in southern China. On the Pearl River about 120 km (75 mi) north-northwest of Hong Kong and 145 km (90 mi) north of Macau, Guangzhou has a history of over 2,200 years and was a major terminus of the maritime Silk Road, and continues to serve as a major port and transportation hub, as well as one of China's three largest cities.Guangzhou is at the heart of the most-populous built-up metropolitan area in mainland China that extends into the neighboring cities of Foshan, Dongguan, Zhongshan and Shenzhen, forming one of the largest urban agglomerations on the planet. Administratively, the city holds sub-provincial status and is one of China's nine National Central Cities. In 2015, the city's administrative area was estimated to have a population of 13,501,100. Guangzhou is ranked as an Alpha global city. There is a rapidly increasing number of foreign temporary residents and immigrants from Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Africa. This has led to it being dubbed the Capital of the Third World. The domestic migrant population from other provinces of China in Guangzhou was 40% of the city's total population in 2008. Together with Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen, Guangzhou has one of the most expensive real estate markets in China. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, nationals of sub-Saharan Africa who had initially settled in the Middle East and other parts of Southeast Asia moved in unprecedented numbers to Guangzhou, China in response to the 1997/98 Asian financial crisis.Long the only Chinese port accessible to most foreign traders, Guangzhou fell to the British during the First Opium War. No longer enjoying a monopoly after the war, it lost trade to other ports such as Hong Kong and Shanghai, but continued to serve as a major entrepôt. In modern commerce, Guangzhou is best known for its annual Canton Fair, the oldest and largest trade fair in China. For the three consecutive years 2013–2015, Forbes ranked Guangzhou as the best commercial city on the Chinese mainland.

Gong Xi Fa Cai from Heavenly Queen temple
Heavenly Queen, also known as 'Mazu', Lin Mo Liang A.D. 960-987) was born in Meizhou Island in FuJian Province during the Sung Dynasty in China. At her birth, a brilliant light appeared in the north western sky, and the scent of perfume filled the home. She was given the name Mo (Silence) because as a newborn, she never cried. At her early age, she demonstrated great intelligence with photographic memory, healing the sick and helping the poor people. She also acquired the ability to predict weather, saving many fishermen lives at sea. Although her life was of short duration, her intelligence and life-saving legend remained forever. After her death, people built a temple on the Meizhou Island at the spot where she ascended to heaven and became immortal. This became the origin of all Heavenly Queen temples around the world.
Devotees around the world continue to believe that Heavenly Queen will protect all those who pray to her before setting out, and that she will save the lives of anyone on the open sea who cries to her in their hour of distress. Her birthday is celebrated each year on the 23rd March of the Chinese lunar calendar in all places with a Chinese sea-faring tradition. Not only is Heavenly Queen a traditional Chinese religious figure who saves people’s lives and promotes mercy, her legend is also part of the traditional Chinese culture and has continued unabatedly for more than one thousand years.
THE remarkable transformation of a vacant Maribyrnong River site into a Buddhist temple complex began with a 16-metre statue of the Heavenly Queen.
Sydenham train line passengers have a perfect view of the statue, which is just south of the railway line, opposite the Newells Paddock site.
The stainless steel, gold-painted statue was designed and made in Nanjing, China. Heavenly Queen, also known as 'Mazu', Lin Mo Liang A.D. 960-987) was born on Meizhou Island in FuJian Province during the Sung Dynasty in China.
The six-building 35,930-square-metre site was remediated and sold to the Heavenly Queen Society. Includes a memorial hall, souvenir shop, office, exhibition centre, drum tower, a secondary temple, bell tower, lake pavilion and extensive Chinese gardens.
