Targeting fish on a super moon that were feeding on herring. I expected small stuff but rounded out a few nice fish to keep it interesting.
Rigged EliasVFishing shads in ghost mullet and the peanut shad with 1 oz Kalin's Ultimate Swimbait jigs on light spinning gear. A few breaks offs but grinded out a decent day overall.

Quick trip to Seabrook
The bad weather kept me from going to my go-to spots so I kept this one close to home. It was cold and I didn’t dress for the occasion. But it did feel good to finally catch a fish!

Grinding till high tide, Freeport marsh fishing in Texas
It was a grind today but when the tide came in the bite went full swing. There were some nice fat ones willing to take black and red lures. The Buggs Fishing Hydra Bugg caught the biggest red and trout while the Swimming Jack played clean up. I hope the action gets better as the weather continues to heat up.

Florida Kayak Fishing – Striper Fishing Bluff Point Connecticut
Another Striper fishing adventure in the Northeast. This time I am exploring Bluff Point State Park in Groton Connecticut. The park is 800 acres of protected land consisting of coastal bluffs, wetlands, forest, and rocky shorelines. To reach the rocky bluffs, it is a mile and one-half mile hike from the parking area. I rigged an old beach comber bike to carry my fishing rod and tackle and off I went. The Striper fishing is great and what a magnificent view of Long Island Sound and surrounding coastal towns. I looked for fast currents moving around jagged outcrops in search of Stripers and I was not disappointed. I will be back in Florida and back in my kayak next month, but for the time being, I am enjoying all that New England has to offer. Come along and enjoy the day with me… Tight Lines!

The Fisherman Magazine's New England Fishing Forecast with Toby Lapinski for June 30, 2016
I can’t believe that we’re already looking at the 4th of July holiday weekend! It seems like just yesterday we were scraping frost from our car windows, and now we’re loading up on sunscreen and fireworks.
In any event, with summer in full swing comes fishing tournament season and next up we have the all-new Niantic Shark Week Tournament taking place from July 2 – 9. The guys from J&B Tackle and the Tri-State Tournaments have brought the Block Island Sharkfest home to Connecticut with an awesome new week-long format. Check out all the details of this event by clicking on the YouTube card on your screen right now!
And then we’ve got a great kayak-only, catch and release tournament in a few weeks, the Three Belles Outfitters Trifecta Kayak Challenge on July 15-24. Eligible species for this one are striped bass, bluefish and fluke, and the Grand Prize is a brand new 2016 Special Edition Hobie Outback. Again, check out the YouTube card on your screen right now and use the special promo code “thefisherman” – all one word, no spaces - for 25% off the entry fee!
Connecticut
• While there are some sporadic striper bites taking place in the western Sound, up the Connecticut River and out by the Race, the most consistent action remains with bottom fish. Capt. Tony of Lucky Hook Charters in Clinton sent me a picture of a nice fluke and sea bass landed on his boat this week, and all accounts are of continued success for both species in the mid-Sound waters.
• Speaking of fluke, I received a nice picture of a 7.3-pound fish caught by Diawick Dasouza who was visiting Connecticut from his home in CA and spent some time fishing the Sound with his grand parents. It sounds like the fluke are still pretty spread out with fish being landed from shore, kayak and boat right now.
Rhode Island
• There was a nice push of fish last week in Rhody waters with large bass being caught off Watch Hill and out by Block, but that seems to have tapered off before it really got going. Derek Patalano got in on the action and caught and released some nice 25-pound class bass in Narragansett Bay.
• And while bassing is on again, off again, fluke fishing continues to save the day. Fisherman subscriber, Rick Watrous nailed a solid pair of fluke weighing-in at 9.3 and 9.4 pounds for our Dream Boat Challenge. He said they were both landed over by Block, but the fishing has been good pretty much anywhere in the state. I even heard of some really big fish that were landed out at Coxes by a few guys who stopped off on their way back in from tuna fishing!
Massachusetts
• Flounder fishing has been a bit of a roller coaster ride the last week or so, and Capt Jason Colby of Little Sister Charters has been hunting around to stay on the fish. Sunday’s outing produced some decent flounder in deeper water with the top spot going to Andrew for his 17-plus-inch flattie. Andrew topped off this fine catch by landing a chunky tog that weighed 10 pounds, 3 ounces but which was released as she was full of eggs.
• And lastly, there has been some solid bluefishing for the shore crowd up on the Vineyard, and fish to 10-plus pounds have been weighed-in at Larry’s Tackle. I heard of a good daytime bite around Wasque this week with loads of islanders getting in on the action.
