Potatso National Park is located in the centre of Three Parallel Rivers world natural heritage area, belonging to northwest of Yunnan Province,China. It is made up of the wetlands of international importance Bita Lake Nature Reserve and the Three Parallel Rivers world natural heritage Redhill Area’s Shudu Lake. The park is 22 kilometers away from the Shangri-La county.The park is in Northwestern Yunnan Province’s alpine cold temperate coniferous forest vegetation zones, the highest point of it is in the northern peak of Mi li Tang mountain, 4159 meters above sea level. Potatso National Park is the first national park in China, which set environmental protection, ecological and cultural tourism, environmental education and community benefit functions as one, under the premise of protecting the country and the world natural and cultural heritage, sightseeing opportunities for domestic and foreign tourists.
Yunnan: Lijiang, Tiger Leaping Gorge
This is the rare footage before Lijiang City was burned down in 2013. Lijiang City replaced the former administrative region of Lijiang Prefecture. It was under the rule of the Mu family (木氏) local commanders (土司) during the Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty.
The Baisha Old Town was the political, commercial and cultural center for the local Naxi people and other ethnic groups for 400 years from the year 658 AD to 1107 AD. The Dabaoji Palace of the Baisha Fresco, very close to the Baisha Naxi Hand-made Embroidery Institute, was built in the year 658 AD in the Tang Dynasty (618 AD to 960 AD).
In ancient times, the Baisha Old Town used to be the center of silk embroidery in the southwest of China and the most important place of the Ancient Southern Silk Road, also called the Ancient Tea and Horse Road or Ancient tea route. The Ancient Southern Silk Road started from Burma, crossed Lijiang, Shangri-La County, Tibet, journeyed through Iran, the Fertile Crescent, and ultimately to the Mediterranean Sea.
Naxi women were well known for their hand-made embroidery before 1972 during the Great Cultural Revolution. The most famous Naxi masters were arrested and put in jail, some of them died in jail during the Cultural Revolution because they did hand-made embroidery only for the Naxi Emperors when they were young.
Tiger Leaping Gorge (simplified Chinese: 虎跳峡; traditional Chinese: 虎跳峽; pinyin: Hǔtiào Xiá) is a scenic canyon on the Jinsha River (Golden Sands River; 金沙江; Jīnshā Jiāng), a primary tributary of the upper Yangtze River. It is located 60 kilometres (37 mi) north of Lijiang City, Yunnan in southwestern China. It is part of the Three Parallel Rivers of Yunnan Protected Areas World Heritage Site.
At a maximum depth of approximately 3790 meters (12434 feet) from river to mountain peak, Tiger Leaping Gorge is one of the deepest and most spectacular river canyons in the world. [1] The inhabitants of the gorge are primarily the indigenous Naxi people, who live in a handful of small hamlets. Their primary subsistence comes from grain production and foreign hikers (as well as Chinese).
Balagezong, Diqing, Yunnan Province, China 巴 拉 格 宗
Balagezong Scenic Area 巴 拉 格 宗 風 景 區 is located in the Hong Shan 紅 山 section of the Shangri La County 香 格 里 拉 縣 that forms part of the UNESCO-listed Three Parallel Rivers of Yunnan Protected Areas 世 界 自 然 遺 產 – 雲 南 三 江 併 流.
Only parts of the 176 sq km of Balagezong are opened to the public. Tour bus picks up tourists from the ancient town of Jiantang 建 塘 in the Shangri La County to Birang Grand Canyon 比 朗 大 峽 谷, Bala Village 巴 拉 村 and Tongtian Gorge 通 天 峽. The round trip travels less than 180 km.
Jiantang Ancient Town is commonly called Old Town 古 城, pronounced as Gucheng.
Shangri La is the former Zhongdian 中 甸. Shangri La County-city is under the jurisdiction of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture 迪 慶 藏 族 自 治 州 in the Yunnan Province 雲 南 省.

This itinerary describes a popular route to some of the major tourist attractions of Yunnan. Of course, it leaves various other popular places uncovered, notably the tropical paradise Xishuangbanna and the trip west toward Ruili at the border with Myanmar.
The big attractions of this route are as follows:
The lovely old cities of Dali and Lijiang, both former capitals of small kingdoms and both major tourist towns today
Sensational trekking areas, notably Tiger Leaping Gorge near Lijiang or, going further afield, Three Parallel Rivers National Park
Mountainous areas and Tibetan peoples in Northern Yunnan, around Zhongdian and Deqin
The various places on the route feel quite different to the traveler:
Dali feels like a backpacker hangout, similar to Yangshuo; there are Western restaurants and tourists everywhere.
Lijiang is among the most beautiful cities in China and the Chinese have certainly noticed; there are tour groups everywhere.
Zhongdian (now Shangrila) feels more like a Tibetan town than a city in central China.
What they all have in common are mountainous scenery, interesting architecture, ethnic minorities and lovely handicrafts — wood, silver and especially fabric items.

Lìjiāng (丽江) is in the northwest part of Yunnan province, China. The Old Town of Lijiang is designated as a UNESCO Heritage Site. The history of Lijiang dated back more than 800 years. It was once the major cross-road of trade along the old tea horse road between central China and the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. The old town is well known for houses of traditional architecture, narrow streets connected with waterways and bridges. Due of its tourism popularity, the old town is way over developed. There are nothing but just shops, bars, restaurants and small motels. I was rather disappointed during the April 2009 visit.

虎跳峡是中国云南省丽江一处峡谷，位于玉龙与中甸之间的金沙江干流上。相传金沙江逢枯水期时，有猛虎下山，在此江中的礁石上稍一脚后腾空便越过，故称“虎跳峡”，江中的礁石则称作“虎跳石”。
虎跳峡的两岸有雪山对峙，左岸（西面）为哈巴雪山，右岸（东面）为玉龙雪山，自谷底到山顶高差达3790米。虎跳峡全长约16公里，分成上虎跳、中虎跳、下虎跳三段，始于金沙江及其支流硕多岗河汇合处，即中甸县桥头镇一带；止于玉龙县大具乡一带。虎跳峡两侧岩石为片岩和大理岩组成，宽度仅60至80米，最窄处约30余米，天然落差200多米，水流湍急，水力资源蕴藏丰富。

Ganden Sumtseling Monastery is 松 贊 林 寺 Songzanlin Si in Chinese. Alternative English spellings are Sungtseling, Guihuasi and Sumtsenling. It is sometimes referred as the Little Potala Palace 小 布 達 拉 宫.
By royal decree from Emperor Kangxi 康 熙 帝 in the Qing Dynasty 清 朝 (1644 – 1911), the Fifth Dalai Lama founded this largest Tibetan Monastery in Yunnan under the Yellow Hat Sect of the Gelukpa Order 格 鲁 派 sometime in 1679-1683. In the 20th C, Civil Revolution destroyed the monastery. Restoration began in 1981. The monastery is now returned to its former glory.
Situated at 3380 m in altitude, the Monastery is surrounded by Hengduan Mountain Ranges 横 斷 山 脉, highest summit in Mount Gongga 贡 嘎 山 at 7556 m above sea level.
