Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens is a zoo in the Great Yarmouth area
Thrigby Hall is one of East Anglia's most popular attractions and certainly needs to be top of your list for things to do in the Great Yarmouth area. In terms of its history the hall its self was built in 1736 by Joshua Smith Esquire. The grounds of Thrigby Hall were opened as wildlife gardens in 1979.
There is so much to see throughout the zoo and its gardens from right across the animal kingdom including tigers, crocodiles, alligators, red pandas, otters, leopards, gibbons, monkeys and a huge variety of bird life and so much more... Feeding of the animals starts at 2.30pm.
We also welcome visitors who would like to bring a picnic all though we do have our own cafe. For the children we have a fabulous adventure play area with a seating area for parents to watch over. Don't forget to have a look around our gift shop where we sell everything from teddies, toys, t-shirts to our own brand of thrigby sweets. We are open every day of the year please visit our website for full details, pricing etc.

Inspired by Sir David Attenborough, Ken’s life-long fascination with conservation and Asian mammals in particular started when he was just a boy. On his return from Malaya in 1976, Ken bought Thrigby and resolved to make it the kind of place where he, and his visitors could really see the animals. The zoo is focused on Asian animals and is home to big cats, leopards, monkeys and birds, and is the perfect size for every visitor to be able to see, and for Ken to be able to greet the animals daily.
Ken was awarded an honorary fellowship from the Zoological Society of London in 2015, he first became involved with the Society in the 1960s, supplying animals to them when he was working as a rubber planter in Malaya. Having opened Thrigby Hall Wildlife Garden in 1979, Ken became more closely involved, serving on committees and working with both London and Whipsnade Zoos through the British Zoos’ Federation. He became a Trustee of the Zoological Society of London in 1994, has been Vice President three times and also chaired the London Zoo Board and the Zoos’ Advisory Committee. Ken is a former Chairman of the British Zoos’ Federation and has represented the federation on the committee of the European Association of Zoos.
Greater Yarmouth is blessed to have such a passionate and renowned conservationist at the helm of Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens for so many years.
