A naturally attractive place which was once known as forbidden kingdom is Lo-mangthang. It is also known as place kingdom beyond the mountain. It lies in Mustang district of Dhaulagiri zone. Most people of this region are Buddhist. The four major temples found in this region are Jampa Lhakhang aka Jampa Gompa is the oldest one which was built in the early 15th century and also known as the God house the second is Thubchen Gompa which is a huge, red assembly hall and gompa built in the late 15th century and located just southwest of Jampa Gompa, Chodey Gompa is now the main city gompa; and the Choprang Gompa, which is popularly known as the New Gompa. This kingdom was kept hidden till 1992 to foreign tourist. Still not most tourist visits this beautiful place. Another most attractive facts of this place is that at the north of Annapurna a series of 12 caves were found decorated with ancient Buddhist paintings and set in sheer cliffs at 14,000 feet (4,300 m) elevation. Royal palace is one of the attraction at Lo-mangthang, build in traditional way represents the culture and pride of upper Mustang. Destructed by 2015 earthquake and has been closed for visitors but still stands out to show the legacy of Mustang. Beside Royal Palace there are numbers of old Monastery which are open during 3 P.M. to 5 P.M. for visitors. These Monastery were build during 13th-15th century and showcase the beauty of Mustangs culture and history.
