ചാലക്കുടി നദിതട പദ്ധതിയുടെ ഭാഗമായി ചാലക്കുടി പുഴയിൽ ചാലക്കുടിക്കും അതിരപ്പള്ളിയ്ക്കും ഇടയിൽ തുമ്പൂർമുഴി എന്ന ഗ്രാമത്തിൽ പണിതിരിക്കുന്ന തടയാണ് ഈ ഗ്രാമത്തിന്റെ പ്രധാന ആകർഷണകേന്ദ്രം. കനാൽ വഴിയുള്ള ജനസേചനപദ്ധതിക്കായി 1949 ൽ നിർമ്മാണം തുടങ്ങി 1959 പണിതീർത്തു. നിർമ്മാണചെലവ് 2 കോടി രൂപ. ഈ പദ്ധതിയുടെ ഭാഗമായി രണ്ട് കനാലുകളുണ്ട്. വലതുകനാലിന്റെ നീളം 48.28 കി.മി ഉം ഇടതുകനാലിന്റെ നീളം 35.45 കി.മി ഉം ആണ്. തടയണ കവിഞ്ഞൊഴുകുന്ന വെള്ളം ചെറിയതും എന്നാൽ മനോഹരമായ ഒരു വെള്ളച്ചാട്ടത്തിന്റെ പ്രതീതി ജനിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.
തുമ്പൂർമുഴി തടയണയോട് ചേർന്ന് ഒരു പൂന്തോട്ടവും കുട്ടികൾക്കായി കളിസ്ഥലവും ഉണ്ട്. ശലഭങ്ങളുടെ ആവാസവ്യവസ്ഥയ്ക്ക് യോജിച്ചതാണ് ഈ പ്രദേശം. അതിനാൽ തന്നെ ഇവിടെ ധാരാളം ശലഭങ്ങളെ കാണുവാൻ സാധിക്കും. ശലഭങ്ങളുടെ പടം പിടിക്കാൻ താല്പര്യപ്പെടുന്നവരും ഇവിടെ സന്ദർശിക്കാറുണ്ട്.
താപനിലയിൽ വ്യത്യസ്ത കാലവസ്ഥകളിൽ 8-9 ഡിഗ്രി സെൽഷ്യസിൽ കൂടുതൽ വ്യത്യാസം വരാറില്ല. അധികം വിയർക്കാത്തതും എന്നാൽ ഉണങ്ങിവരളാത്തതുമായ ഹൃദ്യമായ കാലവസ്ഥ ചാലക്കുടിപ്പുഴ മൂലം ലഭ്യമാകുന്നു. മഴക്കാലം കേരളത്തിന്റെ മറ്റു ഭാഗങ്ങളിലെന്ന പോലെ ജൂൺമുതൽ സെപ്റ്റംബർ വരെയാണ്. ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതൽ മഴ ലഭിക്കുന്നത് ജൂലൈ മാസത്തിലാണ്. നവംബർ മുതൽ ഫെബ്രുവരി വരെ മഞ്ഞുകാലമാണ്.

Thumboormuzhi Dam Garden is one of the most famous tourist spots on the bank of Chalakudy River in Thrissur District, Kerala. Every One who visits Athirappally waterfalls happens to travel across this calm and quiet butterfly garden with a small children’s park. Thumboormuzhi dam is a check dam built across the Chalakudy River and water is diverted for irrigation purposes. Here a portion of the water from the river splits into two canals namely Edathukara canal and Valathukara canal that are the backbone of irrigation for the nearby villages. During summers almost whole of the river water will be directed towards the canals making the river bed visible.
Thumboormuzhi is a natural habitat of butterflies. Almost every species of butterfly in the world harbors here. At Thumboormuzhi Butterfly Park, you can enjoy the nature to its fullest with butterflies and flowers conversing with each other. About 148 species of Butterflies can be seen in the park. If you reach early morning you can see bigger butterflies similar to birds. Some of the butterflies that can generally be seen in the garden include lemon butterfly (Papilio demoleus), southern birdwing (Troides minos), common rose (Pachliopta aristolochiae), light blue tiger (Tirumala limniace), dark blue tiger (Tirumala septentrionis). Some of the plants which are grown in the park as feed for butterflies include Pagoda flower, rattlepods, Mexican heather or Hawaiin Heather, Rubiaceae, flame lily or fire lily, Heliotropium keralense (Medicinal Plant) and more.
A restaurant run by District Tourism Promotion Council is present at the Garden where we can manage traditional Kerala food. They also prepare special dishes on request. The other facilities includes a snack bar inside the garden, rest house, washroom etc.

Athirappilly Falls is situated in Athirappilly panchayath in Thrissur district of Kerala, on the southwest coast of India. Located on the west-flowing Chalakudy River near the Vazhachal Forest Division and the Sholayar ranges, this 24-metre (80 ft) waterfall and the nearby Vazhachal Falls are popular tourist destinations.
There is a construction of a weir at Thumboormuzhi across the Chalakudy river and diverting the water for Irrigation purpose. The stage I of the scheme comprising a weir at Thumboormuzhi across Chalakudy river and a part of the canal system was commissioned in 1957 and stage II was commissioned in 1966.

The Thamboormuzhi river garden is on either side of the Chalakudi river and 14 km before the Athirapally falls. It is an wonderful place to spend atleast an hour with the family. The river view is beautiful and you can take bath in the other side. There is a hanging bridge to cross the river. There is butterfly garden and a restaurant. There is an entrance fee of Rs.15/- per person and on the other side Rs.10/- per person. The timing is from 9 am to 5 pm.

From Angamaly the route is in the midst of an Oil Palm Reserve through Ezhattumugham tourism village A steep narrow path also leads to the bottom of the falls.
