Flying a Clearcut Logging site in BC, Canada
There is a lot of conflict between logging and forest industry groups and environmental groups here in BC. Whichever side you're on, it's sad to see our trees and rain forests disappearing here at an alarming rate. The big mounds of trees in this video look like graves.

The 2014 North American cold wave is an extreme weather event affecting parts of Canada and the United States east of the Rocky Mountains, extending as far south as Central Florida, and Northeastern Mexico. An Arctic cold front, initially associated with a nor'easter on January 2, tracked across Canada and the United States, resulting in heavy snowfall. Temperatures fell to unprecedented levels due to the front, and consequently low temperature records were broken across the U.S., leading to business, school, and road closures, as well as mass flight cancellations. Records of meteorological data have been kept by the National Weather Service since it was established in 1870. Altogether more than 200 million people were affected, in an area ranging from Rocky Mountains to the Atlantic Ocean and extending south to include roughly 187 million residents of the Continental United States.

Asian Travel - Boat Trip To Koh Rong Sanloem Island Off Sihanouville - Youtube 01
Koh Rong Sanloem - A most popular tourist destination
Koh Rong Sanloem is an island off the coast of Sihanoukville,Cambodia, 4 kilometers south of Koh Rong island. It is around 9 kilometers long (north to south), 4 kilometers wide (east to west) and 1 kilometer wide at its narrowest point. Its distance from the local port of Sihanoukville is 25 kilometers (beeline) and 23 kilometers (beeline) from the Serendipity/Ochheuteal beach pier. The word Sanloem translates to: 1. drowsiness and to: 2. far out and hard to discern, in a wider sense. Inconsistencies on how to spell the island's name in its Latinized version date back to the 19th century. The first controversial spelling variants were issued by map makers during French rule. Alternatives have since become widespread and are in common usage. Often confusion ensues as Google Maps offers the phonetically most consistent variant, whereas Google Searchredirects to an alternative.
Koh Rong Sanloem lies within Sihanoukville province's Mittakpheap district in Commune 5 (Sangkat Koh Rong). Alongside its sister-island Koh Rong it has developed into a popular holiday destination for individual travelers. With respect to the island's very tiny population, the tourism sector is by 2014 the core economy.
Geography
The island resembles its northern sister, Koh Rong in many ways, although it has noticeably less landmass in relation to its coastline. The terrain is predominantly hilly with a few mountains of moderate size (e.g. La Chameau - The camel). The interior is almost entirely covered in dense jungle. The coastline is characterized by a succession ofsandstone rock formations and beautiful beaches. There are three yellow sand beaches at the island's long western coast. Its eastern side, facing towards the mainland and less exposed to the weather and the monsoon, is characterized by bays and headlands. A very attractive feature is the crescent shaped Saracen Beach bay with an inner diameter of around 3 kilometers. Saracen bay got its name from a British survey brig, HMS Saracen, that charted the area in the late nineteenth century. North of the island lies; M'Pay Bay fishing village & the uninhabited Koh Koun island, followed by Koh Rong.
Settlements and Infrastructure
There are two discernible villages on the island; one in the north, called Ma-pay Bay (means 23 in Khmer) and one in the south, called Koh Rong Sanloem Phumi Kang Khnong (kang khnong means inside in Khmer), which is little more than a fisher's hamlet. Another little hamlet is situated in the southwest, called Phumi Kang Krau (Village on the outside). There used to be a basic road network, built during the period of the French Protectorate, which is by now almost completely overgrown with vegetation. Sole reminder of this period is a lighthouse at the island's southern tip. Depending on the season, some structures that resemble a landing field near the light house are still recognizable.
Most transport is being done by boat, although the island's very narrow center permits water buffalo carts to operate. Koh Rong Sanloem is not connected to the main power grid, nor to the internet, although there is local mobile phone coverage. The island is home to a base of and is administered by the Cambodian Navy.
Tourism
More than a dozen guest houses and bungalow resorts have been established by 2014. Although most of these businesses are scattered all over the whole island, Saracen beach has become the primary place of arrival and departure with the highest number and density of resorts followed by Ma-pay Bay located at the northern end of the island. Accommodation and prices range from cheap dorm beds to well furnished solid bungalows. There are a few daily scheduled ferries (around 2-2.5 hours) and 2 speed ferries (25 min and 45 min) to the island. Departure is at the local port of Sihanoukvilleand the piers at Serendipity beach and Victory beach.

INDIA TO THAILAND BY ROAD: 4500 KM | 22 INDIANS | 3 COUNTRIES | ROAD TRIP I SELF DRIVE I EPIC
Adventures Overland has made history yet again by facilitating the most talked about INDIA to
BANGKOK drive for 22 Indians who drove across 3 countries, clocking 4500 km by crossing 2
International land borders in Indian vehicles.
Some of the highlights from the expedition:
• WW II era bridges - Crossing 46 iron bridges, all within 100 km. These bridges were built
during the World War 1 and is maintained by the Border Road Organization of India.
• Bagan - The city of temple: Bagan is home to around 4,456 pagodas. It was such a sight to
visit this place as no matter where we looked, we could see the ancient, magnificent
temples. It is a sea of pagodas, and while you’re there, you will be able to feel the calm,
peace and vibrations of this holy land.
• Inle Lake - This beautiful freshwater lake located in the Shan Plateau, is home to the Intha
people, who are known for their unique leg-rowed traditional boats.
• Mandalay - The former capital of Burma, Mandalay has a rich and exotic past. This city
houses the historical prison where famous Indian freedom fighters like Bal Gangadhar Tilak
were imprisoned during the British Raj. Half of Burma’s monks reside in this city and it has its
share of royal palaces and monasteries.
• Golden Rock - Soaking in the atmosphere charged with magic and devotion as we visited the
huge and stunning golden rock. It’s a rock coated in gold and topped with a stupa, balancing
itself on top of a mountain and enjoys the status of being the holiest shrine for the
Buddhists.
• Mae Sot border - The end of our drive through Myanmar and the beginning of our drive
through Thailand. The spirit of the group was palpable as they realized that their dream to
drive from India to Bangkok is just a few km away.
Anyone can take a flight to Bangkok, but it takes strong guts to attempt the drive!
Over a period of two weeks, all of us experienced new highs, dealt with breakdowns and other
obstacles together as a team, sampled exotic food, drove long hours at a stretch for many days in a
row, and finally, together, achieved the common goal-reaching Bangkok by road all the way from
India. The journey connected us and has made us friends for life. Driving for over 10,000 km through
three countries, Road to Bangkok was a test of mettle and skill, with the curious, the brave and the
crazy ones who joined us!

Walden Audiobook by Henry David Thoreau | Audiobook with subtitles| Part 2
Walden by Henry David Thoreau is one of the best-known non-fiction books written by an American. Published in 1854, it details Thoreau’s life for two years, two months, and two days around the shores of Walden Pond. Walden is neither a novel nor a true autobiography, but a social critique of the Western World, with each chapter heralding some aspect of humanity that needed to be either renounced or praised. Along with his critique of the civilized world, Thoreau examines other issues afflicting man in society, ranging from economy and reading to solitude and higher laws. He also takes time to talk about the experience at Walden Pond itself, commenting on the animals and the way people treated him for living there, using those experiences to bring out his philosophical positions. This extended commentary on nature has often been interpreted as a strong statement to the natural religion that transcendentalists like Thoreau and Emerson were preaching.
