Great Motorcycling Roads Of Australia - Thunderbolts Way
The 290 km long Thunderbolts Way is one of the most popular roads for motorcyclists north of Sydney. And for good reason. Despite it being a bit bumpy in parts of this section between Walcha and Gloucester, these are being repaired and there are heaps of smooth sections and awesome scenery to make this road one worth experiencing on two wheels. This section is the most popular with riders, but the rest of the highway and the surrounding region also offers plenty of awesome riding.

Sydney to Queensland on the New England Highway
Driving from Sydney to the Gold Coast on the New England region, via the M1, Bucketts Way, Thunderbolt's Way, the New England Highway, Bruxner Highway and Pacific Motorway.
We stopped overnight in Armidale and ended up at a beach villa in Mermaid Beach on the Gold Coast!

3D Flyover: NSW Oxley Hwy Thunderbolts Way Loop
Take a virtual navigation through this loop on REVER's 3D Flyover. This loop starts at the Pacific Highway between Port Macquarie and Wauchope then heads northwest on the Oxley Hwy toward Walcha. From here it heads southeast along Thunderbolts Way toward Nabiac. You can then jump on the A1 to complete the loop.
Uralla to Bundarra via Thunderbolt's Way
Level Crossing, Uralla NSW, Australia.
This is the Walcha Rd (Thunderbolts Way) level crossing at Uralla NSW, Australia. It is located about 25km south of Armidale and the only regular trains are the daily passenger services from Sydney to Armidale.
The signals here were installed on November 22, 1984. Both signals have unmarked bases and Western Cullen Hayes lights which are mounted on Westinghouse brackets, there is a Western Cullen Hayes mechanical bell on the western signal.
Both signals have additional rectangular backgrounds to give better sighting of the lights at sunrise and sunset, this practice was common in NSW during the 1980's and 1990's when incandescent lights were still being used. Since the introduction of LED lights, the use of these backgrounds has been abandoned on most new installations. Similar looking rectangular backgrounds are still found on all crossings in Western Australia.

Motorcycle Friendly Accommodation In Walcha, New South Wales
Episode 9 of the Cranky Adventure Tour sees us spending the night at an amazing hotel in Walcha full of motorbike memorabilia after riding the Oxley Highway, one of Australia's best known and most popular motorcycling roads.
When you are out riding some of the best motorcycling roads in Australia, you need somewhere to stay and recharge before your assault on the roads the following day right? Well, what better place than the Walcha Royal Cafe situated very conveniently at the crossroads of 2 amazing roads, the Oxley Highway and Thunderbolt's Way in NSW.
Owned by motorcyclists and decorated for motorcyclists, this place (along with it's owners) is warm and very welcoming. We checked in and were given free reign over the place for the night. We had the whole entire hotel to ourselves!
