Leeds is a city in the northern English county of Yorkshire. On the south bank of the River Aire, the Royal Armouries houses the national collection of arms and artillery. Across the river, the redeveloped industrial area around Call Lane is famed for bars and live music venues under converted railway arches. Leeds Kirkgate Market features hundreds of indoor and outdoor stalls.
Leeds is a local government district of West Yorkshire, England, governed by Leeds City Council, with the status of a city and metropolitan borough. The metropolitan district includes the administrative centre Leeds and the ten towns of Farsley, Garforth, Guiseley, Horsforth, Morley, Otley, Pudsey, Rothwell, Wetherby and Yeadon.
The current city boundaries were set on 1 April 1974 by the provisions of the Local Government Act 1972, as part a reform of local government in England. The city is a merger of eleven former local government districts; the unitary City and County Borough of Leeds combined with the municipal boroughs of Morley and Pudsey, the urban districts of Aireborough, Garforth, Horsforth, Otley and Rothwell, and parts of the rural districts of Tadcaster, Wharfedale and Wetherby from the West Riding of Yorkshire.
For its first 12 years the city had a two-tier system of local government; Leeds City Council shared power with the West Yorkshire County Council. Since the Local Government Act 1985 Leeds City Council has effectively been a unitary authority, serving as the sole executive, deliberative and legislative body responsible for local policy, setting council tax, and allocating budget in the city, and is a member of the Leeds City Region Partnership. Thc City of Leeds is divided into 31 civil parishes and a single unparished area.

65. Narrowboat journey from Leeds to Castleford. St Aidan's Flooded Mine and HUGE Canal Locks.
We take a narrowboat journey from Leeds to Castleford passing St Aidan's flooded mine and entering some HUGE Canal Locks!
After the eye-candy videography of the Yorkshire Dales and the Pennines, we bring narrowboat Silver Fox back into civilisation, making a brief visit to Leeds. We leave via Lock One and drop onto the Aire and Calder Navigation, passing Thwaite Mills, Lemonroyd Marina and the flooded St Aidan's opencast mine, now a nature reserve.
Colin finds out why the canal and river were re-routed thirty years ago, and we end our journey in our old hometown of Castleford. Unfortunately, not much fun for Dillon as he has some dental work planned!

Leeds City Transport Vintage Bus Running Day
Leeds was the place to be on Sunday 31st August for The Leeds City Transport Vintage Bus Running Day.
Historic Leeds Buses operated a 15 minute service all day between Thwaite Mills, The Armley Mills Industrial Museum and New York Street in Leeds City Centre.
The event looks to have been a complete success with the buses carrying large number of passengers. All of the buses looked and sounded perfect and are a credit to their owners.
This was the first Leeds City Transport Running Day and I'm sure many people, myself included are looking forward to the next event. It would be nice to see it as a regular event in the Bus Calendar.
Many thanks to Richard McAllister and all the vehicle owner/Drivers for giving us the opportunity to see and ride on these Historic vehicles, and everyone else involved in making this a memorable event.
Please feel free to have a look at my photos of the event at

Leeds City Transport 2nd Vintage Bus Running Day
Leeds was the place to be on the 23rd August for The Leeds City Transport's 2nd Vintage Bus Running Day. A variety of buses operated a 15 minute service over two routes.
Route 46 was Leeds Industrial Museum, Armley to Thwaite Mills, Hunslet, via the City centre, and Route 26 was Middleton Railway to Kirkstall Abbey, via the City Centre, This is only the second LCT Running Day, Which is hard to believe as it is so well organised even with the addition of a second route. This is an excellent event for both Bus enthusiast and casual visitor alike.
Many Thanks to everyone involved for a well organised, friendly and thoroughly enjoyable event.
Please find a selection of Photos of the event at:
