Kaiyuan Temple, Quanzhou, China Kai元temple, Q u按周
On a rainy day we visited the Kaiyuan Temple 開元寺; Kaiyuan Si; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Khai-gôan-sī), also known as the Ziyun Hall 紫雲堂; Zǐyún táng; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Chí-hûn-tông), is a Buddhist temple on West Street, Quanzhou, China, the largest in Fujian province.
Although it is known as a Hindu-Buddhist temple, on account of added Tamil-Hindu influences, the main statue in the most important hall is that of Vairocana Buddha, the main Buddha according to Huayen-buddhism. What is now called the Mahavira Hall (Mahavira - the Great and Strong) is in fact the Vairocana Hall.
It was originally built in 685 or 686 during the Tang Dynasty. Behind its main hall Mahavira Hall”, there are some columns with fragments from a Shiva temple built in 1283 by the Tamil community in Quanzhou dedicated to Hindu God Shiva.
The carvings are dispersed across five primary sites in Quanzhou and the neighboring areas. They were made in the South Indian style, and share close similarities with 13th-century temples constructed in the Chola Nadu region in Tamil Nadu. Nearly all of the carvings were carved with greenish-gray granite, which was widely available in the nearby hills and used in the region's local architecture.
In 1983, the Kaiyuan Temple was designated as a national temple.

Fortune telling at A Taoist Temple Quanzhou, China
There was a large Taoist Temple just one block east of Qingjing Mosque with quite a few shriveled women beggers in front of the temple. These ladies stick one bony and strong finger into your arm and keep on poking away while asking for money. I abhor and detest being poked! First because it frightens me when someone comes from behind and begins poking away, and second, it hurts! They never bother the men.
Travels With Sheila practically ran inside the Taoist Temple, was instructed in the proper way to pray, selected fortune sticks used inside the temple that you bring to a woman who reads the stick, and then walked outside where men were sitting on small stools waiting for customers to tell their fortunes. Altogether fun even if we didn't like our fortunes. Whatever happened to, You will have a long life and be very wealthy?

Quanzhou was China's major port for foreign traders, who knew it as Zaiton, during the 11th through 14th centuries. It was visited by both Marco Polo and Ibn Battuta; both travelers praised it as one of the most prosperous and glorious cities in the world. It was the naval base from which the Mongol attacks on Japan and Java were primarily launched and a cosmopolitan center with Buddhist and Hindu temples, Islamic mosques, and Christian churches, including a Catholic cathedral and Franciscan monasteries. A failed revolt prompted a massacre of the city's foreign communities in 1357. Economic dislocations—including piracy and an imperial overreaction to it during the Ming and Qing—reduced its prosperity, with Japanese trade shifting to Ningbo and Zhapu and other foreign trade restricted to Guangzhou. Quanzhou became an opium-smuggling center in the 19th century but the siltation of its harbor long reduced its capacity for trade by larger ships.

Edit: It looks like the outside area I was walking around in is called Fairy Lake!
I wish I could have recorded more, but it suddenly went low battery and I did my best to squeeze out what I could of the pitiful thing.
Anyway, hopefully you have enjoyed this snippet of a Chinese temple~
