A massive explosion has been reported in the Chinese city of Tianjin. Video of the blast shows people many kilometres away hit by a huge shockwave moments after the explosion. Casualties are expected to be reported.
According to Live Leak, the blast happened at approximately 11:30 p.m. local time or 11:30 a.m. Eastern Time.

On 12 August 2015, a series of explosions killed 173 people and injured hundreds of others at a container storage station at the Port of Tianjin. The first two explosions occurred within 30 seconds of each other The cause of the explosions was not immediately known, but an investigation concluded in February 2016 that an overheated container of dry nitrocellulose was the cause of the initial explosion
At around 23:30 (15:30 UTC), the 1st explosion occurred and registered as a magnitude 2.3 earthquake, generating seismic shock-waves energetically equivalent to 2.9 tonnes of TNT. After 30 seconds, a 2nd more powerful explosion occurred, causing most of the damage and injuries with shock-waves felt many kilometers away. The second explosion registered as a magnitude 2.9 earthquake and generated seismic shock-waves with energy equivalent to 21.9 tonnes of TNT.

Massive explosion rocks Tianjin: video shows huge explosives accident in Chinese city - TomoNews
TIANJIN, CHINA — Hundreds of people have been hospitalized after a massive explosion shook the northeastern Chinese city of Tianjin late Wednesday.
An explosion was triggered and followed by a much larger secondary blast after a shipment of explosives caught fire, according to a report by The Guardian.
Video posted to the Chinese microblogging platform Weibo captures the immediate aftermath of the first explosion, which sent enormous plumes of thick smoke over the city, followed by the shocking moment the second blast sent a massive fireball up in the air.
The accident has injured untold hundreds.
“The hospital cannot count how many patients we have received – there are too many of them and many of them have burn injuries,” said a doctor at a local hospital, according to the Guardian, which cited local reports.
Some three to four hundred patients have reportedly been admitted to only a single hospital, the Tianjin Harbor Hospital.

China: Drone reveals devastated Tianjin blasts site
Drone footage released by Greenpeace on Thursday captured the aftermath of the Tianjin warehouse explosion, on Friday, August 15, in which at least 114 people died and another 700 were injured.
Chinese officials are still working out the exact cause of the blast, although it is thought to have originated from a warehouse containing flammable chemicals, including sodium cyanide, sodium nitrate and calcium carbide. The latter can combine with water to form the highly explosive acetylene.

Traffic also hit a gridlock as motorways were jam packed with people trying to flee the city.

A massive China explosion in the city of Tianjin that killed at least 50 people and left more than 700 injured was caught on dashcam video by one onlooker and uploaded to social media. The blast that occurred last night at a warehouse storing toxic chemicals was reportedly caused by flammable cargo, while a thorough investigation into what exactly happened has been promised by President Xi Jinping. Huge explosions have hit an industrial area in the north-eastern Chinese city of Tianjin, killing at least 44 people and injuring more than 400, state media says.
State broadcaster China Central Television said the blasts erupted in a shipment of explosives around 11:30pm local time, triggering a blast wave felt kilometres away.
Shattered glass could be observed up to three kilometres from the blast site.
At least 44 people were killed in the explosion, with more trapped by a huge fire unleashed by the explosives, Communist Party newspaper the People's Daily said.
Nine firefighters have been confirmed killed in the blasts, state media said. Earlier, authorities lost contact with 36 firefighters at the scene of the explosions, Beijing News cited Tianjin fire officials as saying.
Plumes of smoke billowed over buildings six hours after the explosion.
CCTV aired footage of burning debris raining down on the city, accompanied by a deafening bang.
The fireball was huge, maybe as much as 100 metres tall, Huang Shiting, 27, who lives close to the explosion site, said.
I heard the first explosion and everyone went outside, then there was a series of more explosions, windows shattered and a lot of people who were inside were hurt and came running out, bleeding.

Poor coverage of the event and the emergency response to it received criticism.The Chinese government also censored the internet and social media using the words Tianjin and explosion, and announced it had taken down multiple websites for publishing false information.
As of 12 September 2015, the casualty report was 173 deaths, 8 missing, and 797 non-fatal injuries.
