Tianjin, Jin for short, is located at the Northeast part of Northeast China Plain beside the Bohai sea, and is known as the Bohai Pearl. It is one of the four municipalities and the fourteen coastal open cities. The appearance of Tianjin is based on the construction of the Grand Canal in Sui Dynasty. The port of Tianjin is the biggest port in the Northern China, which is functional and international. So far, Tianjin has basically formed a traffic network based on a combination of ground, sea and air. Its railways and highways spread among the vast areas of the north, northwest, and northeast parts of China.
Tianjin is a historical and cultural city, there are Thean Hou Temple, Confucius’ temple, the Great Mosque, the Great Mercy Hospital, Dagukou Emplacement, Wanghailou Church, Guangdong Assembly Hall, etc. In recent years, the Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao Memorial Hall, Memorial of Tianjin Campaign, and Tianjin Science and Technology Museum were built. What’s more, there are different kinds of traditional food in Tianjin, with exquisite workmanship, flavor, and nutrition. As one of the famous historical and cultural cities, Tianjin has continuously opened up its new tourism resources on the basis of the ten major urban landscapes. Now Tianjin is standing in the Gulf of Bohai with a brand-new attitude.

Beijing Military Museum

Tibet's first natural science museum
The first natural science museum in Tibet went into trial operation last week. It is also the biggest museum in the southwestern autonomous region.
Perforated, porthole packed facade peeks into China's technological history
Bernard Tschumi Architects' recently-completed Exploratorium is a scientific museum dedicated to Tianjin, China's long industrial history and is host to various different examples of technology, including rockets related to the country's space research. The building is defined by a series of large cones that help reduce its energy use.
The Exploratorium has a total floorspace of 33,000 sq m (355,200 sq ft) and features an eye-catching reddish aluminum facade that sports many perforations and small porthole-like windows that allow light to enter inside.
Bringing to mind NYC's Guggenheim's atrium, the interior of the building is centered around a large coned space that's topped by a skylight. Its porthole-like windows and lighting are intended to give the space a constellation-like feel, complementing the rocket installation that takes pride of place.
A spiraling ramp ascends to the top level, allowing visitors to reach the roof and enjoy choice views of the city. Elsewhere in the building, the smaller cones are used for housing exhibition spaces and other areas, including restaurants and retail space.
Interestingly, the cones also function to keep the interior well-lit and a comfortable temperature, reducing the need for artificial lighting and air-conditioning.
The cones provide even, natural light to gallery spaces and reduce the energy loads required for artificial lighting, says Bernard Tschumi Architects. Their tapered forms also concentrate warm air, which can then be channeled out of the building in summer or back into the galleries in winter. Glazing surfaces are minimized except when desired for program. The perforated metal panels of the facade help reduce heat gain. The central, large atrium acts as a solar chimney, drawing up hot air and replacing it with cool air from below in a constant airstream.
The Exploratorium was constructed in collaboration with Tianjin Urban Planning and Design Institute, and is part of a larger cultural center masterplan that is also home to MVRDV's futuristic library. It's set to open to visitors later this year.

Chinese naval vessel models on exhibition in eastern China
A model exhibition on Chinese naval vessels is being held in Qingdao in China's eastern Shandong Province during the four-day Labor Day holiday. More than 30 models of China's naval ships are displayed, with an 8-meter-long replica of China's first aircraft carrier, the Liaoning, on show for the first time in the city.

The Shanghai Science and Technology Museum includes three parts.The main hall of the museum is located at No.2000, Century Avenue, Shanghai and the branch museums, the Shanghai Natural History Museum located at No.510, West Beijing Road, the Shanghai Planetarium located at LinGang New City.
The Shanghai Science and Technology Museum has a floor area of 68,000 square meters, and a building area of 106,000 square meters. It’s ranked as a first-class national museum and a 5A national tourist spot, besides as an educational excursion demonstration base and one of Shanghai’s landmarks. The museum is also a postdoctoral research center.SSTM was selected as the seventh among the 20 most popular national museums in the world by the Themed Entertainment Association and AECOM in 2016.
Focusing on the theme “Nature, Human, and Technology”, SSTM aims to make the science popular with high-techs. There are 11 permanent exhibition galleries on the themes of Biological Diversity, Earthcrust Exploration, Cradle of Designers, Lights of Wisdom, Home Planet,Information Era, World of Robots, Lights of Exploration,Human and Health,Space Navigation,Children’s Fantasyland, and 2 special exhibition galleries on World of Spiders and World of Animals and two relief galleries on Technologies in Ancient China and Science Explorers.There is also an academicians information wall from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. SSTM has built four cinemas in the museum: IMAX 3D, IMAX Dome, IWERKS 4Dand Space Theater.
