Ningbo was our first chinese city in northeast Zhejiang province. We had the chance to be in a not very touristic city but with a lot to see. In this city we could visit the 3rd oldest library still functional and also the food is incredible!

So we went to Tianyi Ge, which is the oldest existing library in China. It was founded in 1561 by Fan Qin during the Ming Dynasty. We got a translator and thankfully she told us about the importance of all the different parts in Fan Qin's home. A popular tourist site!
After that, we went to Old Street where there were many small restaurants and local snack shops :D A great place to buy snacks as souvenirs...I will come here again!

Zhenhai, Ningbo (East China) - A day out at Zhaobao Mount
Zhaobao Mount is considered to be one of the best scenic spots in Ningbo, with walking trails on and around the hill and numerous sites to explore. These include the 57.6 metre tall, seven-story (about 264 steps) Aozhu Pagoda, the 2000 foot long, 10 foot thick Weiyuan City Wall built during the Ming Dynasty (1368--1644AD), and the even older Zhenhai Seawall originally built in 897AD during the Tang Dynasty (618--907AD). The Tianhou Temple is dedicated to the Heavenly Empress and the Guanyin Pavilion is dedicated to the Goddess of Mercy...

Tianyi Pavilion Library 天一阁
Located at the west side of Moon Lake in Ningbo city, the Tianyi Pavillion Library (天一阁) the oldest surviving library in China, founded in 1561 during Ming Dynasty by Defense Right Attendant Fan Qin. In its heydays, it boasted a collection of 70,000 volume of antique books.
“Asking your favorite book” in Ningbo Dialect
To have a little fun, my cohost and I dressed up as Fanqin and his wife, the historical founders of the famous 1000 year old Tianyi Ge library in Ningbo. We thought it would be funny if we, in character, walked around the ancient library asking people what their favorite book is.
Chinese language is vast and varied. Although you may have heard Chinese spoken in the two major dialects Cantonese or Mandarin, there are actually 100’s of dialects of Chinese spoken for specific areas. Many of these are totally unintelligible if you are not from that specific area, and have little relationship to Mandarin or Cantonese.
This is a short series of clips I pulled from my 2013 Ningbo Focus Show episodes that taught Ningbo dialect of Chinese language. In each of these short lessons I tried to teach some simple terms in the local language that could be used in a variety of circumstances and have fun doing it. Although Ningbo dialect is used less and less, I think that keeping it alive even a little helps to retain Ningbo culture remember the Ningbo Heritage.
