Between heaven and earth exists all living things. Natural forces like light, wind, heat, cold, and water shapes our existence just as they have the breathtaking landscapes in China's Zhangjiajie National Forest.
During rainy season, the moisture turns into fog which flows among the rock formations as if islands of rock and trees were floating in a sea of clouds. It doesn't happen often but when it does, it is an amazing sight to behold. I was lucky to have been able to shoot these conditions for a week.

To see a map of the TianMen Mountain Park and a cable car schedule, skip to 12:53.
We spent most our last day in TianMen Mountain (TianMenShan) Park, which is a 30 minute cable car ride from downtown ZhangJiaJie City. But first we started the day by walking to WangQiaoTai, which is just behind ZhongTian International Youth Hostel. We visited WangQiaoTai each of the three days we were in WuLingYuan, and we got the best view on this day! It was soooo amazing! On a clear day, you can see all the way to bottom of the valley at the mountains’ base, and the depth is overwhelming and awe inspiring.
Because it was clear, we decided to take a bus back to TianZiShan (where were the day before when we saw nothing because it was too foggy). It was so worth the risk of time loss because we saw the mountain peaks poking through the clouds. GORGEOUS.
Our last stop in Wulingyuang was a five minute walk from YangJiaJie. We wanted to photograph and film the rice fields nestled in a valley with the mountain background. Again, it was stunning.
We took the cable car from Yangjiajie. The cable car ride was not disappointing. If you have the time, then there’s a hike that follows the cable car route, but we were told it takes 3-4 hours.
The next step was to get back to ZhangJiaJie City, which was a little complicated. From the cable car station we took a free shuttle bus to a transition station where we had to walk along a wooden path for almost 15 minutes. We then took another bus, which made a pit stop at the HuangShiZhai cable car station then proceeded to the SenLin Park Entrance (which we also visited the day before). We then walked to the bus station outside the park and paid 10 RMB each for the bus to ZhangJiaJie City. The bus goes all the way to the bus station, but we got off a bit early at the TianMenShan cable car station.
FYI: TianMenShan has a free baggage check service. We took advantage of it by leaving our backpacks there.
The cable car takes an epic 30 minutes and offer amazing views! At the top of the mountain we headed straight to the Glass Walkway. After you pay a separate 5 RMB fee and put a pair of booties over your shoes there’s nothing left to do but be brave and walk the glass walkway 1500 m at the top of the mountain!! It was a thrilling experience.
We were short on time, so we didn’t explore any more of the mountain. Instead we took the cable car to the midway station and boarded another bus (which took a very windy road!) to the 999 steps. There were a couple delays because of thunder, lightning, and heavy rain, but the fog cleared up just enough for us to get a glorious view steps and caves. Then they vanished…consumed by fog! We waited an hour hoping for another clearing but decided to leave when the rain started up again. You could easily spend a whole day on TianMen Mountain. We wish we had more time!
For dinner we went across the street to Vide Hotel, which as a Korean restaurant. We didn’t realize until we got there that it’s actually a North Korean restaurant! The bibimbap was delicious. The servers perform during dinner, which makes for an overall interesting dining experience.
Our first visit to Hunan Province was beyond wonderful! We hope we get to visit again soon!
Thank you for watching!! :)

My Biggest Mistake in China? | Zhangjiajie National Forest Park
Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in China's Hunan Province is known to be one of the most stunningly beautiful places in the world - a UNESCO World Heritage Site that inspired the movie Avatar with its more than 3,000 sandstone pillars and peaks, some higher than 200 meters/660 feet. Unfortunately, my adventures in the Avatar Mountains with its glass bridge and grand canyon and Tianzi Mountain didn't go as planned...Around the 3:50 mark, I talk about how my friends and I have been rethinking our framing around regret and 'bad' decision making. I'd love to hear your thoughts on that or anything else in the video!

Zhangjiajie - Tianzi Mountains - China - Really Amazing Worlds
Tianzi Mountains in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park - The place between Heaven and Earth.
With an area comprising only 93 square kilometres, Tianzi (Son of Heaven) Mountain Nature Reserve is the smallest of the three subsections of Wulingyuan Scenic Area. The eastward-pointing, horizontally-oriented triangle describes the three subsections of Wulingyuan Scenic Area. Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve represents the upper left (NW) point of the horizontal triangle in question.
Zhangjiajie National Forest Park represents the lower left (SW) point of that horizontal triangle. Suoxi Valley Nature Reserve represents its eastern point. Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve is characterized by four over-arching features: forests of stone towers (eroded mountain peaks), seas of clouds (thick mists), spectacular sunrises and breathtakingly beautiful winter snowscapes.
The nature reserve gets its name from Xiang Dakun, an ethnic Tujia who led a peasant rebellion during the latter half of the 19th century. This was a period when rebellions against Manchu-led Qing rule, especially on the part of the disgruntled, Han Chinese majority (viz. the Taipeng Rebellion (1850-64)), were increasingly common. The leader of the Taipeng Rebellion had given his movement a divine name that challenged the exclusive, divine authority of the emperor. Xiang Dakun styled himself Tianzi, or Son of Heaven, a title reserved for the emperor, which also explains why Tianzi Mountain is sometimes referred to as Emperor Mountain.
Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve, like Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, is characterized by old, weathered sandstone mountain-peak remnants (and a few newer and taller, snow-clad ones that still have sharp peaks). Some are in the form of massive blocks and some in the form of freestanding sandstone obelisks or towers. There is also a certain amount of limestone bedrock present in the nature reserve. As a result of aeons of water erosion, usually in the form of underground streams, this has produced karst caves. Limestone is soft and more easily dissolved in the carbonic-acid-rich water that is common to such areas.
Because the sandstone bedrock that makes up most of the nature reserve was created by a long process of stratification, it appears in distinct layers, each layer slightly different in coloration than the contiguous layers. Due to this layering, the bedrock is subject to erosion that constantly whittles away at the outer edges of exposed rock, leaving an uneven vertical surface.
It is generally marked by small ledges that alternately jut out. The ledges provide ideal conditions for the accumulation of soil, which in turn can nurture flowers, grasses, shrubs and even trees. Thus the second distinguishing feature of all of the sandstone mountain - peak remnants of Wulingyuan Scenic Area, including those of Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve, is that these old geomorphological rocks are home to many shrubs and trees which in turn attract birds. Indeed, Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve is also home to very dense forests with a plethora of wildlife.
The nature reserve is also home to the largest assemblage of freestanding sandstone towers in the Wulingyuan Scenic Area. Namely, the Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve site called Yubi Feng (Imperial Writing [i.e., calligraphic writing] Brush Peaks). It is partially walled by more massive – but still very old and time-worn – tree-clad mountain peaks. Some of the uppermost sections are splintered into freestanding mini-towers. These time - and - weather - worn mountains of semi-porous, stratified sandstone bedrock have been subjected not only to lengthy erosion, but perhaps also to extensive and prolonged flooding and frost damage.
Most certainly, the erosion process required an inordinate amount of time to produce the sublimely beautiful landscapes that the enthralled visitor beholds in Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve. The Emperor Mountain enjoys the reputation of being more beautiful even than Yellow Mountain, the latter also a strangely eroded scenic mountain located in Anhui Province.
Its many picture-postcard weathered, tree-clad sandstone mountain-peak remnants, inspired the computer-generated, floating Halleujah Mountains seen in the Hollywood film, Avatar.Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve is characterized by snow-capped peaks as well as by forested valleys filled with lakes, rivers, waterfalls, limestone caves, bridges and thick mists that bathe the mountain-peak remnants in ever-changing patterns, thus creating an enchanting if somewhat eerie effect.
The mountain-peak remnants provide over 80 natural viewing platforms at differing heights making it possible to get an inspiring view of the surrounding mist-enshrouded highest peak in the reserve, Kunlun Peak, sits at 1262 metres above sea level, and provides the most spectacular, panoramic views of the entire reserve.

Mesmerizing sea of clouds in China's Avatar mountains
Mesmerizing sea of clouds in Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park in China's Hunan Province. The peaks here are believed to have inspired the floating mountains in the blockbuster Avatar.
குறுகிய பூமியில் நெட்டை நெட்டையாக மலைகள் | Tianzi Mountain | China
The Tianzi mountain is naturally the most scathing stone pillars found in Zhangjiajie in the province of Hunan in China.
Our two eyes are not enough to discern such as clouds, solar rays and snowfall in the winter.
The mountain range is 16,550 acres and 4,140 feet above sea level. Each pillar of this mountain range is narrow and tall.
The Tianzi Mountain has a lot of valleys and waterfalls and rock peaks. This mountain range offers different scenes in different places.
All the scenes here are beautiful and easy to believe. There are a lot of people coming here to enjoy the beauty of April to October.
Tourists coming here can enjoy the spectacular views of 2,084 meters using a cable car. There are also many eye-catching scenes in the film Avatar.

Central China’s ‘Avatar’ mountains float in spectacular mist
It is said that the giant pillars of rock in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park inspired scenes in sci-fi blockbuster “Avatar,” and visitors to the UNESCO World Heritage site in central China’s Hunan Province this weekend would have found that claim even more credible.
Overnight rain caused mist to swirl around the pillars and left anyone scaling the mountainous structures in the park feeling like they were floating in the clouds.
