Hello Guys this is Buddhist Monastery , Ghoom Monastery (Samten Choling) Buddhist Temple in Darjeeling west bengal india . Old Ghoom Monastery is the popular name of Yiga Choeling. The monastery belongs to the Gelukpa or the Yellow Hat sect and is known for its 15 feet (4.6 m)-high statue of the Maitreya Buddha. The external structure of the building was established in 1850 by the Mongolian astrologer and monk Sokpo Sherab Gyatso, who was head of the monastery until 1905.
In 1909, Kyabje Domo Geshe Rinpoche Ngawang Kalsang, popularly called Lama Domo Geshe Rinpoche, succeeded Sherab Gyatso as head. It was he who commissioned the statue of the Maitreya Buddha, and he remained head until 1952.

Located in Dali which is about 5km away from Darjeeling Town, although this monastery is popularly known as the Dali Monastery, it's actual name is Druk Sangag Choling Monastery. This is the name which is prominently written on its outside wall as you approach it from the road and walk through its arch gate.
When you look at the monastery from a little distance standing on the Hill Cart Road, it looks awesome. Its one of the largest monasteries with white buildings built in typical Tibetan style and perched on a steep hill.

Durpin Monastery or Zang Dog Palri Monastery is situated on top of Durpin Hill of Indian Town Kalimpong. The monastery was blessed by the visiting Dalai Lama in the year 1976. It houses many rare Buddhist books and manuscripts that were brought into India after the Tibetan invasion.
The building of the monastery is very beautiful. After stepping into the monastery the first thing you will notice is a row of prayer wheels along the outside wall. A stairway from the side leads to the second floor. On the right side of the main monastery building you can observe some Buddhist Shrines.
From the back of the monastery you can get a stunning view of the Kalimpong town and the surrounding hills. On a clear day Mount Kanchenjunga is clearly visible from this place. The place is popular for its scenic beauty and is a must visit while you are in Kalimpong.

Ghum Monastery or Ghoom Monastery is the popular name of Yiga Choeling Monastery located at Ghum at an elevation of 8,000 feet, 8 km from Darjeeling in the state of West Bengal, India.
The monastery follows the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism. There is a 15-feet high statue of Maitreya Buddha (Coming Buddha) in the monastery. It contains images of Buddha’s disciples, Chenrezi and Chongapa.
It was built in 1875 by Lama Sherab Gyatso and is the largest of the three monasteries in Ghum.
Amongst the Buddhist texts available are the Kangyur, the Tibetan Buddhist canon, running into 108 volumes. The monks fly prayer flags in the Tibetan tradition.

Mountain Monks is a docu-travelogue produced and filmed in the Eastern Himalayas by Vasudeva Joly for BhakTV. Mountain Monks takes a candid look at the many similarities between two monastic traditions of Tibet and India, as seen in Lamaist Buddhism and Vaishnava Hinduism. The first half-hour of the film is set in Darjeeling and the scenic foothills of North Bengal. The second half-hour starts in Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. In the surrounding mountains Vasudeva interviews a young lama at the ancient Rumtek Monastery, and takes us on a scary ride up a steep mountain road that was destroyed by a 6.9 earthquake in 2011. Finally we come to to the glacial Changghu Lake, 3,780 meters above sea level at the Tibetan border. The travelogue ends in an unplanned but peaceful encounter with a Himalayan black bear.

Dali Gompa, Darjeeling: A Drukpa Kagyud Monastery belonging to the Kagyupa Order of Tibetan Buddhism is the Dali Monastery at Dali - on the route between Ghoom and Darjeeling at 27.0237 88.2549 at an altitude of 7000 feet above sea level. The Dali Gompa is perched atop a hillock between Darjeeling Railway Station and Ghoom Railway Station and is just 5 kilometres south of Darjeeling City.
Dali Gompa was Built by Kyabje Thuksey Rimpoche in 1971. This Monastery is the largest in the area - in terms of headcount of resident Monks. 210 Tibetan Buddhists of the Drukchen sect stay at the Dali Gompa. This Gompa also had the good fortune of having His Highness Dalai Lama spend three days in 1993 at the Gompa teaching about the various facets of Tibetan Buddhism and Culture.
