Tidal Bore - Moncton, NB

August 17, 2018 - Got to experience a tidal bore which has been on my Bucket List since I was young! Spent the morning and early afternoon at Hopewell Rocks to watch the tide come in from it's lowest point.

If you are ever in the area, you have got to experience these tides!

My Canadian trip is rolling along and my next stop is Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada! Moncton isn't on everyone's travel radar but there were some things I really wanted to do there. I love the Canadian Maritimes, so this was definitely a stop I was looking forward to. I visit Hopewell Rocks at both low tide and high tide, see the Bay of Fundy and it's world-record tides, see the famous Moncton Tidal Bore wave, explore downtown Moncton, have my mind blown at Magnetic Hill, see the touristy Wharf Village, and much more!

The Tidal Bore. Incredible. The Petticodiac River flows south to the Bay of Fundy (30 miles away - some of the strongest and highest tides in the world). Here the Tidal Bore rushes north, pushing back the current of the river... so strongly that it can sometimes be surfed.

July 4, 2017 - As my evening in Moncton comes to a close, I swing by Bore View Park to check out the tidal bore from the Bay of Fundy as it rolls up the Petitcodiac River, reversing the river's flow.

It was a gorgeous night, and clearly the river was flowing upstream, but I think I missed the initial rush of the tidal bore by just a few minutes.

Mother Nature isn't a slave to a schedule; why would I expect it to be? I should've shown up 15 minutes earlier. Gah!

Trip to the 10th Annual Ice Walk in Shediac, New Brunswick which included finding six earth caches on Valentine's Day. One of them was the Tidal Bore in Moncton, New Brunswick. Krista and Mike (Pink Action). With windchill the temperature was minus 18 degrees celcius!

Whenever the tide comes in from the Bay on Fundy, there is a natural phenomenon called the Tidal Bore that causes a large wave to slowly make its way down the river into Moncton. You can watch it happen at Bore View Park in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. It is really interesting to see as it makes its way down the view against the normal flow of the river. Just happened to be driving by when I noticed the Bore coming up the Petitcodiac River, so I stopped to record it. It's so freaking windy out that the wind is blowing the top of the wave back!

As the high tide rolls in from the Bay of Fundy, a tidal bore moves up the Petitcodiac River. This is one of the few tidal bores in North America. Recorded 23 July 2019.

Sure, the Petiticodiac river flows left and OUT towards the Atlantic Ocean - but - twice a day, people gather, find the best viewing spot and get their cameras ready to watch THIS

The tidal bore.

Billions of tonnes of water move into the infamous Bay of Fundy on New Brunswick’s south coast. As the water rises and pushes into the river, it creates a tidal bore with water levels reaching on average up to 2 feet. It was something I had never seen before and let me tell you, watching this for the first time, was epic. Blew me away.

That's something you have to experience in Moncton, New Brunswick. That is awesome!

Super moon tidal bore, June 23, 2013 @ Moncton NB: 10h15.

For Daniel LeBlanc, his team, supporters, and City Council who all put a stop to laying more unnecessary rocks(rip rap) on our waterfront!

This clip was taken from the elevated deck at the boardwalk! I had to climb up from outside for access to this deck, as the front door is always locked. It offers a most spectacular view. Several people I have met, and spoken with, during my last three years of tidal bore viewing, have expressed their opinion that they can not understand why this elevated deck is not being made accessible, unless you have military training. Hint hint tourism Moncton!

I'm also thinking this building could be put to better use, as more and more people are coming back to see this rare phenomenon known as a tidal bore, since the causeway gates were opened a little over three years ago!

The bore had become the butt of jokes(total bore) not long after the causeway was built! You plug an artery in your body and see what happens! Not so funny when you put into this perspective is it?

Even though the gates have been opened at the causeway for a little over three years, this causeway is still causing a serious impediment, a bottle neck, for the river restoration to progress! We need to replace the causeway with a bridge to allow the river to flow freely!
