Zu Ostern haben wir mal einen Ausflug zum Münchner Tierpark Hellabrunn gemacht. Dieser Tierpark wurde 1911 gegründet, er ist durch seine naturnahe Lage im Landschaftsschutzgebiet der Isarauen gekennzeichnet. Heute leben hier in verschiedenen Tierwelten ca. 752 Arten und mehr als 19.000 Tiere.

[dt.] Der Münchener Tierpark Hellabrunn feierte 2011 sein 100-jähriges Jubiläum. Seine Beliebtheit verdankt er seiner Einbettung in das Isartal, zwischen Steilufer und Isar. Er ist von einer Reihe von Bächen und Seen durchzogen, deren Wasserstand unabhängig von der Isar reguliert werden kann.

Die beiden Braunbären zeigten sich an jenem sonnigen Tag von ihrer besten Seite. Das Weibchen war an Leckerbissen interessiert, das Männchen wohl an etwas Anderem.

[en.] The Munich zoo Hellabrunn celebrated his 100th anniversary in 2011. He owes his popularity to his embedding to the valley of the Isar between steep banks and the river Isar. It is crossed by a number of streams and lakes, whose water level can be regulated independently of the Isar.

On that sunny day the two brown bears appeared on at their best. The female was interested in treats, the males obviously in something else.

Hellabrunn Zoo (or Tierpark Hellabrunn in German) is a 40 hectare (99 acre) zoological garden in the Bavarian capital of Munich. The zoo is situated on the right bank of the river Isar, in the southern part of Munich near the quarter of Thalkirchen. As the groundwater level here is rather high and the water is of very good quality, the zoo can cover its needs for freshwater by using its own wells.

A high ratio of enclosures are cageless, relying upon moat features to keep the animals in place. The zoo was the first zoo in the world not organized by species, but also by geographical aspects. For example, the wood bison share their enclosure with prairie dogs.

In 2013, the zoo was ranked 4th best zoo in Europe (up from 12th). It focuses on conservation and captive breeding rare species such as the rare drill and silvery gibbons. Also gorillas, giraffes, elephants, wood bisons, elk and Arctic foxes were successfully bred in the zoo, which houses a large number of species. It is one of the very few zoos that allows visitors to bring dogs.

Tierpark Hellabrunn is a member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) and the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) and participates in the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP).
In 2014 it was home to 18,943 animals representing 767 species.
The Tierpark Hellabrunn is very active in breeding, reintroduction and conservation projects.
Over 2.2 million people visited Hellabrunn in 2014.

Der Tierpark Hellabrunn in München beherbergt einige Sibirische Tiger. Sie sind die größten lebenden Katzen, aber stark vom Aussterben bedroht.

In den kälteren Monaten zog ein Tigerweibchen 2 Junge auf. Diesen beim Spielen zuzusehen bereitet sehr viel Freude.

Leider konnte unsere Hündin keine Sympathien entwickeln und bellte ständig, was auch zu einer gewissen Verwunderung bei den kleinen Tigern führte.

In den heißen Sommermonaten genießen die Tiger gerne ein kühles Bad.

The Hellabrunn zoo in Munich houses some Siberian tigers. They are the largest living cats but strongly threatened with extinction.

A tigress had reared 2 cubs during colder months. It was a great pleasure to watch them playing.

Unfortunately, our dog could not develop any sympathy and barked constantly, which led to confusion among the little tigers.

During the hot summer months, the tigers enjoy a refreshing bath.

On 25 February 1905 the Verein Zoologischer Garten München e.V. (Engl. Society of the Zoological Garden of Munich) was founded and the Hellabrunn area was chosen as the location for the zoo. The zoo was designed by architect Emanuel von Seidl, and opened to the public on 1 August 1911.

In 1922, the zoo was closed due to the inflation in Germany. It was re-opened on May 23, 1928. It became the first Geo-Zoo in the world (animals were shown and kept with other animals of the same geographic region). It also engaged in controversial back-breeding to recreate extinct animals like Heck cattle (to mimic the Aurochs) and the Tarpan.

Der Münchner Tierpark Hellabrunn wurde 1911 gegründet. Der Tierpark ist durch seine naturnahe Lage im Landschaftsschutzgebiet der Isarauen gekennzeichnet. Im ersten Geozoo der Welt leben rund 18.500 Tiere in 740 Arten.

Der Tierpark liegt im Stadtteilt Unergiesing-Harlaching. Eingebettet in das Landschaftsschutzgebiet der östlichen Isar-Auen konnte auf dem Gelände ein 40 Hektar großer typischer europäischer Auenwald erhalten werden, der über einen sehr alten Baumbestand verfügt. Ursprünglich lag auf einem Teil des Geländes eine Mühle aus dem 14. Jahrhundert. Diese südlichste Untergiesinger Mühle wurde 1902 abgerissen, mit ihrem Abbruch gelang der Durchbruch für die dauerhafte Gründung eines Zoos für München.
