Tiki village Moorea - circle island tour moorea
Tiki village Moorea - circle island tour moorea
Location
The Tiki Village is located at Kilometer 31, at Varari, on the west coast of Moorea, in a wild and preserved part of the district of Haapiti, on the edge of the lagoon.
The village was founded 18 years ago by Olivier Briac, a man whose passion for Polynesian culture drove him to create a replica of a traditional Tahitian village, and the largest permanent show in Polynesia, with over 60 performers.
The village is open throughout the day. Visitors can discover the details of traditional Polynesian life, watch craftspeople at work, visit the replica of Paul Gauguin's house, admire various exhibitions, watch a Polynesian dance show, and even get married (or renew their vows) in a traditional ceremony.
The Tiki Village also offers a highly original guided tour of the island of Moorea.
Around the Island
There are many excursions on offer in Moorea, but the guided tour organized by the Tiki Village is simply unique. You will, of course, enjoy the sights of Moorea's jagged peaks and volcanic landscapes, with many breathtaking points of view over the lagoon, the reef and the ocean, but you will also discover a hidden, more secret side of this magnificent island.
This tour goes all the way around the island. Your guide will be a native of Moorea, who will take great pleasure and pride in showing you the most intriguing aspects of this tropical paradise, and will regale you with ancient tales and legends directly connected to the places you are visiting.
The tour takes in the villages of Afareaitu, Atiha, Haapiti, Maatea, and Papetoai, giving you an authentic insight into today's Polynesian life. The visit then goes on to ancient and modern spiritual places, like the Marae Nu'uroa, where you will gaze upon the archaeological remains of an open-air temple from the days of yore, and the protestant temple of Horeba for an overview of today's religious practices.
The tour continues with more cultural and natural high places, like the prayer stone, Cook's Bay and Robinson's Bay, the old cinema, the dolphin center, the Monoi factory, the fuit juice factory, the Temae lake, and the Belvedere for one of the most majestic views in the whole of the South Pacific.
The tour ends with a visit of the Tiki Village itself, where you will be treated to a mini Polynesian dance show in the restaurant area. A full day of rich learning and enjoyment, an experience you will cherish for a long time.

Moorea Dolphin and whales expedition – Moorea island activities
Location
Moorea Dolphin Expedition are located on the Coco Beach jetty, right next to the Intercontinental Hotel, in the district of Haapiti, on the northwestern tip of the island. It is advisable to contact them by phone or email.
Dolphins
Did you know that Spinner Dolphins are the only species to perform spiraled twists? Luckily, these amazing creatures are permanent residents of the island of Moorea. They are to be found in the lagoon and the passes in the morning, and in the open ocean in the afternoon. They are easy to approach and observe, and they just love to show off their acrobatic skills.
Other species can sometimes be observed in the ocean around Moorea, such as the graceful Steno dolphins, and the impressive pilot whales.
Whales
From mid-July to early November, humpback whales spend the austral winter in the warm waters surrounding Polynesian islands, safe from predators. These gentle giants are easy to observe, and if the conditions are right, it is even possible to swim near them and watch them real close.
Females are usually with their young. Males obviously do their utmost to seduce them... by singing. The whale's song is one of the wonders of nature, and Moorea Dolphin Expedition's boat is equipped with a hydrophone, so you can enjoy the full experience. An experience you are unlikely to forget.
The lagoon
At the end of the tour, the boat stops inside the lagoon, on a beautiful sandbank where you can swim and observe the rich underwater wildlife. A group of stingrays are permanent residents, there are plenty of colorful tropical fish, and even friendly and shy blacktip sharks.
Throughout the tour, you will be absolutely safe under the competent supervision of Moorea Dolphin Expedition's experienced captain and crew. Relax, and enjoy your day.
Private tours with a la carte services are available upon request.

Moorea Dolphin Expedition – Moorea
Situation

29 - Party Time in Moorea
Cook's Bay in Moorea was the site of this year's Tahiti-Moorea Rendezvous Party. This party is the final event of the Pacific Puddle Jump, a rally organized to help boats cross the Pacific Ocean every year. (Check out the link below)
Lots of boats showed up to celebrate how far we'd come and we enjoyed watching some traditional Polynesian dancing, including fire dancers! There was also a day of games, including outrigger races and to top it all off, we held a mini-party on Starry Horizons with some friends.

Pain ou coco. Moorea et les deux traditions. English version.
A documentary movie from Yannick Fer and Gwendoline Malogne-Fer (Wapiti Productions, 2010).
In 1999, the Protestant local church of Papetoai (Moorea, French Polynesia) split. The tahitianisation of the Last Supper ritual was at the heart of this conflict, bread and wine being replaced by coconut’s flesh and water. Eleven years later, this documentary movie throws light on everyday life, reflections and questions raised by the members of the Protestant Church in Papetoai and in the close village of Haapiti. Each of them strives to associate in their own way Polynesian culture and a Christian heritage stemming from the 19th Century missions. The movie draws from research works conducted in French Polynesia since 1995 to show how contemporary identities are shaped and evolve at the intersection of history, cultural memory and touristic economy.
