Tikkar taal is a good day outing spot during winters.....reach here by 11 am and spend 3-4 hours in sun and enjoy the lake.....also nearby hills give a beautiful view......there is a cafe in the complex.....cafe is clean and neat.....food is good and not very expensive, like other tourist places.......make sure to leave the place 2 hour before the darkness, so that you may reach the plains before sun set.

It is located around 45 kilometres (28 mi) from Chandigarh, 35 kilometres (22 mi) from Panchkula city and is known for its Himalayan views, flora, and lakes
Great scenic location,hills all around and Lake in the middle.

The drive can be dangerous. Reach a couple of before sunset.

There two routes, the one through Morni hills top is safer and easier. The other route is more difficult to drive on. Sometimes Google maps take you from the difficult route especially if you are coming from Delhi.

The rooms are average like other Haryana tourism hotels and cost about 2000 bucks.

The food is cheap and has the same menu as other Haryana tourism hotels/rests. You need to know what to order in this hotel. First day we were pretty disappointed with food.
Chicken curry, butter chicken we ordered were pathetic.

Tikkar Taal is a Lake of Morni Hills hill station in the Panchkula district of the northern state of Haryana and is situated at a height of 1220 meters above sea level. Tikkar Taal is famous for its serene beauty and unconditional greenery that bounds this place.
It’s a destination that is located at about 260 km from Delhi and is about 45 km from Chandigarh. It is a must-visit place for visitors traveling to Chandigarh.
There are two lakes in Morni Hills. A hill divides these two lakes, the larger one is called Bhim Taal or just Tikkar Taal which is 550 meters wide and 460 meters long and the smaller one called Draupadi Taal or Chota Tikkar Taal is 365 meters wide and long.
As the legend goes there is a hidden channel linking them, as the water level of two lakes remains roughly the same. Morni locals look upon the lakes as sacred.
Haryana Tourism runs the Tikkar Taal tourist resort at Tikkar Taal, grounds of which also have dormitory style camping accommodation for campers.
It is more interesting to see the flowers and various gardens blooming in this place and more interesting fact is to see the sunrise and the sunset when the reflection of the sun is viewed on the lake.
There are many places nearby, but the most interesting is this lake as it is mounted by the hills around it that increase its beauty and a memorable journey is all set to go for.
Tikkar Taal is an ideal place for a quiet weekend break. A hidden haven of nature, Tikkar Taal at Morni Hills is a must-visit for anyone looking for a quick weekend getaway.

It is located around 45 kilometres (28 mi) from Chandigarh, 35 kilometres (22 mi) from Panchkula city and is known for its Himalayan views, flora, and lakes.[1] The name of Morni is believed to derive from a queen who once ruled the area

Morni Fort
The Fort: The Morni Fort is a modest stone masonry structure built sometime in the 17th Century atop the Morni hill at a height of about 1200 metres. The fort is strategically located and dominates the road to Badiyal towards Sarahan in Himachal, the road to Trilokpur, the ridge road towards Thapli/ Mandana and the road to the Tals. The fort also overlooks the Morni town or Bhoj Jabial.

The fort has a gate to the East. It has four towers. The accomodation inside the fort was modest and was augmented in 1814 when the Raja of Sirmur sought refuge in the fort following his ouster from Nahan by the Gurkha invaders. There was a well/reservoir in the centre of the fort (now filled up).The air circulates through the wends in the domes to keep the atmosphere cool during summer .

Historical References: The fort finds a mention in the correspondence of British officers at the time of the Gurkha Wars 1814-1816. The fort was captured by the Gurkhas and was held by the Gurkha commander Gouree Sah until its surrender in 1815. The ‘Secret Letters’ that formed a part of the ‘Papers regarding the Administration of the Marquiz of Hastings in India’ that were tabled at a General Court of the ‘United Company of Merchants of England Trading to the East Indies’ on 3rd March 1824 included the following letters pertaining to the Morni Fort:

A secret letter by Mr. Rutherford dated 27 Dec 1814 described in detail the information gathered about the strength of the defences at Morni Fort that was under Gurkha occupation.

Mr. Rutherford wrote, ‘ (the fort) is in good repair and occupied. Its gateway is to the east. Its walls are of stone, and rise about fifteen feet high to the east, north and west; but to the south it is raised to a considerable height, in order to form apartments for the accomodation of the Rajah of Sirmoor, who used to reside here and after his expulsion from Nahun defended himself in it for some time. It is provided with one gun. Water is brought from a spring about a coss off, and kept in a reservoir. there are two roads to it from the plains, which wind round to the right and left, and advance along the hills on a level with the fort.’
