तिलैया डैम और जलाशय
तिलैय बाँध दामोदर घाटी निगम द्वारा बनाया गया पहला बाँध और जलविद्यत स्टेशन है। इस बाँध का ऐतिहासिक महत्त्व भी है कि यह स्वातन्त्र्योत्तर भारत में बनाया गया पहला बाँध है और इसका उद्घाटन तत्कालीन भारतीय प्रधानमंत्री जवाहर लाल नेहरू ने किया था। यह बाँध 1200 फीट लंबा और 99 फीट ऊँचा है। तिलैया जलाशय 36 वर्ग किलोमीटर में फैला हुआ है। तिलैया के आसपास कई शैक्षिक संस्थान हैं, इनमें सबसे प्रसिद्ध है- सैनिक स्कूल (आर्मी स्कूल), तिलैया। सारा क्षेत्र हरे भरे वृक्षों से घिरा हुआ है। यह पिकनिक के लिए भी एक आदर्श स्थान है।[4] इस बाँध का मुख्य उद्देश्य बाढ़ रोकना था। यहाँ के जलविद्युत स्टेशन की क्षमता 4 मेगावाट है।
झुमरी तलैया के आसपास के पर्यटन स्थल राजगीर, नालंदा और हज़ारीबाग राष्ट्रीय पार्क, सोनभंडार गुफाएँ (यहाँ मौर्य खजाने के होने की अफ़वाहें हैं), सम्मेद शिखर जैन तीर्थ, ध्वजधारी पहाड़ी, सतगवाँ पेट्रो फ़ाल्स्, संत परमहंस बाबा की समाधि, मकमरो पहाड़ियाँ और माँ चंचला देवी शक्तिपीठ हैं।Music/Video/Movie ALL RIGHTS RESERVED @2013 FOR #DM ENTERTAINMENT

The Tilaiya dam is 1200 feet long and 99 feet high situated in an ideal surrounding with a beautiful reservoir in 36 square kilometer area. This Dam was built with the main objective of controlling the floods and the hydroelectric power station produces about 4 Mega Watts of Power.
The places to visit for sight seeing in the area are Hydro-Electric Power House,
Terrace Gardens on the hillock Deer Park and a Picnic Island with swimming facilities, approachable only by motor boats which are available on hire near the Dam.
Tilaiya dam is easily reachable as the Grand Trunk Road passes through the reservoir . Koderma is the railway station on the eastern Railway and the distance from the Koderma Railway station to Tilaiya Dam is 19 kilometers. The dam is about 17 kilometers from Barhi on the Patna - Ranchi road and Patna is 194 kilometers away.
Tilaiya Dam is located in the upper reaches of the Barakar river and the river passes through a narrow gorge with its banks steeply rising on either side. The main road from Patna to Ranchi passes through the hills overlooking the reservoir which is very picturesque and beautiful. The beautiful surroundings are an attraction to the tourists and locales as a beautiful picnic spot.

Jhumri Taliya is located in the Damodar River valley. It has an average elevation of 383 m (1,257 ft). It is situated about eight kilometres from Koderma. Both the towns are closely linked.some day going to be one big urban zone in Jharkhand. The entire town is divided by the grand cord line of Eastern Railway, which passes through the middle of the town.
The Tilaiya Dam reservoir is located near the town. The dam was the first dam and hydro-electric power station constructed by the Damodar Valley Corporation across the Barakar River.
