The historical village of Timbertown is located in Wauchope, NSW near Port Macquarie, and is well worth a visit for a great day out in the country.

199. Wauchope is a town on the mid north coast of NSW only 20kms west of Port Macquarie.
The Showgrounds are a great place to stay when in the region but it is limited by council to only 16 at any time so contact them prior to arriving to check on availability. You can call them on 0475 111 074.
There are toilets, showers, bins and a dump point available.
It is pet friendly.
We had good coverage with Telstra and Vodafone.
Cost to stay is $20 per night for powered site and water.

The Timbertown Heritage Railway runs on a 595mm (2 foot gauge) railway track which traverses for 2.4kms around the perimeter of the 87 acre Timbertown park, at Wauchope on the NSW mid north coast.

Het ligt nabij de stad Wauchope (NSW) in het het Broken Barg Bush, niet ver van de stad Port Macquarie. Het geeft je middels diverse aktiviteiten een goede indruk van het (harde) leven uit die tijd. In Harrington hebben wij Tom Page ontmoet, een interessante man die jaren lang als houthakker in dergelijke omstandigheden heeft doorgebracht en zijn gezin daarin heeft groot gebracht. Een geweldige natuurliefhebber die een boek heeft uitgebracht met de titel:Poetic feelings and memories, waarin hij laat weten:

We had a great day at Timbertown NSW. Honestly i could have spent hours and hours just looking at the olden day houses. Here is some info on how Timbertown came to be:
The area on which Timbertown stands was once owned by the Bain Family. The stream that runs through the property was known as the big log water hole from which the town’s folk of Wauchope gained fresh water and was a congregating point for bullock teams and travellers to rest and graze stock before continuing the trip to Port Macquarie.
During the 1800’s many areas in Australia were experiencing a gold rush while locally the fortunes were made from the vast quantities of timber especially red cedar. This was the start of many timber towns along the east coast.
The concept of Timbertown began after a report was commissioned in 1970. The planners had envisaged the re-creation of an 1880-1910 working timber settlement. Work began in 1973 on the creation of Timbertown. Timbertown has two original buildings both being churches the remainder of the buildings have been constructed along original plans.
