Martin Heidegger At His Freiburg House
Here, Heidegger is seen with friends and his wife Enfride at the rear of his Freiburg home that was specially built after he received the philosophy chair at the Univesity of Freiburg (1927)... the house was constructed the same year and Heidegger divided time between the house and the famous cabin in Todtnauberg (see: ' for footage of the cabin) ... in a unique 2003 essay, The professor's house: Martin Heidegger's house at Freiburg-im-Breisgau, University of Cardiff lecturer Adam Sharr (Welsh School of Architecture) offered the following philosophical appraisal:
... Heidegger's house is somewhat alien to Heidegger's writing. It is more 'aesthetic' than 'phenomenological', more attentive to the visual qualities of furniture and axial views than to emotion and experience. The house is rooted in suburban affectation and supportive of conventional social structures. It is also acceptant of technological comforts and their mediation of immediate experience of the world.
Respective roles of house and hut (the Todtnauberg cabin) in the philosopher's life seem to hint at two sides to Heidegger's personality. One side, manifested physically in the house, was civic and somewhat affected. Here, Heidegger was professor, father and head of the family. He seems to have enjoyed this situation, at least insofar as it admitted a measure of hubris. This milieu was somewhat necessary to support the other side, manifested in the hut. There, Heidegger's life was solitary by preference. He perceived it as simpler and more honest, attuned to emotion and experience. He favored this second situation intellectually, finding it vital and sustaining. Importantly, though, Heidegger neither followed one of these lives without the other.
Heidegger lived in the Freiburg house from 1928-1971...

CRAZY Sightings Of The Mothman
With recent sightings of the Mothman happening all over Chicago, we thought that maybe you should know a little more about previous sightings of the famed, terrifying creature. Typically believed to be a harbinger of destruction, an ominous winged humanoid that brings disaster with it everywhere it goes, the Mothman is one freaky, intriguing beast. With that being said, we present to you CRAZY Sightings of the Mothman. Thirteen to be exact. Spooky.
7. Disappearing Dog
In November of 1966, in Salem West, Virginia, a man named Merle Partridge claimed to hear a loud noise near his home. He says his dog began barking madly and his television began to whine loudly before he went outside to see what was going down. He says he was confronted by a being with large, glowing, red eyes that belonged to an animal he had never, ever seen before. He also says there were strange, flashing red lights dancing around before his dog took off toward the creature, and he never saw either again. Poor puppy. Just wanted to get a taste of that mothy, insect flesh!
6. Freiburg, Germany
A group of miners in the small town of Freiburg, Germany reportedly came face to face with the Mothman on September 10, 1978. They say that a seemingly headless creature with glowing red eyes blocked their exit out of a mine they were working in before it unfurled its large, black wings and let out a blood-curdling screech. They, being human, flipped the f out and took off running, making their way out of the mine only an hour before they felt the Earth shake and witnessed a plume of smoke exit the mines entrance. The tunnel had collapsed and had it not been for the beast of a humanoid they saw; they probably would have perished. What a weird, horrifying guardian angel.
5. Twin Towers
Another tragedy, another Mothman sighting. Go figure. In the days leading up to the events that took place on 9/11/2001, several people reported seeing a black winged creature flying in proximity to the Twin Towers. There were also reports following the collapse of the towers of people seeing his face in the smoke and debris. One person even claimed to see it flying parallel to one of the planes that hit one of the two towers, and the eyewitnesses were reportedly approached by men in black in the days following the attacks and were told to keep their mouths shut. Suspicious bros, suspicious.
4. Minneapolis
Yet another bridge collapse where a strange, moth-like being was spotted happened in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2007. In the month leading up to the I-35W Bridge collapse, the Mothman was spotted numerous times flying in the area and at the bridge itself. Reports began on June 27, 2007, a little over a month before the collapse on August 1. One woman stated that she saw a creepy cryptid while driving just outside of Stewartville, MN on June 27 and the beast was described as having “a huge wing about the width of a Ford.” Some claims were dismissed as it’s believed that what people were seeing could have been a large bird, like a crane or a heron, but with it being reported at various other disasters, we find that highly unlikely. Why would it be a simple bird when it can be attributed to a large, hairy, bat-winged, red-eyed man beast? Dummies.
3. Chernobyl
Throughout 1985, many workers and scientists at the now famed nuclear power plant reported seeing a massive, bird-like creature with the body of a human flying around the plant. Those who bore witness to the terrifying sight also reported receiving harassing phone calls and experiencing intense nightmares in the days leading up to the disaster in 1986. Several people reported seeing the figure flying around inside and near the smoke following the explosion, and it has been named the “Blackbird of Chernobyl.” If all it was were a bird, that would be okay; a Mothman is not okay, not okay at all. Go home demon! It has been said that the Chernobyl stories could have all been fictional accounts from the 2002 movie Mothman Prophecies, but we’re gonna stick with believing that they’re true; makes for a cooler story, right?
2. Return to West Virginia
November 20, 2016, was a day that an unidentified photographer won’t soon forget as it’s the day he came lens to face with the Mothman. He claims he was driving down Route 2 and pulled over when he spotted a strange creature flying above the trees. He whipped out his camera, shot some photos, and took a look at what he had captured. What he saw was a two-legged, winged, humanoid being soaring high in the sky. He sent the pictures to local news station WCHS, who then aired the story. Was it the Mothman returning to wreak havoc in West Virginia yet again? We don’t know, but we sure hope not. Because that ish cray.

SUMMARY
=======
The French Revolutionary Wars were a series of sweeping military conflicts lasting from 1792 until 1802 and resulting from the French Revolution. They pitted the French Republic against Great Britain, Austria and several other monarchies. They are divided in two periods: the War of the First Coalition (1792–97) and the War of the Second Coalition (1798–1802). Initially confined to Europe, the fighting gradually assumed a global dimension. After a decade of constant warfare and aggressive diplomacy, France had conquered a wide array of territories, from the Italian Peninsula and the Low Countries in Europe to the Louisiana Territory in North America. French success in these conflicts ensured the spread of revolutionary principles over much of Europe.
As early as 1791, the other monarchies of Europe looked with outrage at the revolution and its upheavals; and they considered whether they should intervene, either in support of King Louis XVI, to prevent the spread of revolution, or to take advantage of the chaos in France. Anticipating an attack, France declared war on Prussia and Austria in the spring of 1792 and they responded with a coordinated invasion that was eventually turned back at the Battle of Valmy in September. This victory emboldened the National Convention to abolish the monarchy. A series of victories by the new French armies abruptly ended with defeat at Neerwinden in the spring of 1793. The French suffered additional defeats in the remainder of the year and these difficult times allowed the Jacobins to rise to power and impose the Reign of Terror to unify the nation.
In 1794, the situation improved dramatically for the French as huge victories at Fleurus against the Austrians and at the Black Mountain against the Spanish signaled the start of a new stage in the wars. By 1795, the French had captured the Austrian Netherlands and knocked Spain and Prussia out of the war with the Peace of Basel. A hitherto unknown general named Napoleon Bonaparte began his first campaign in Italy in April 1796. In less than a year, French armies under Napoleon decimated the Habsburg forces and evicted them from the Italian peninsula, winning almost every battle and capturing 150,000 prisoners. With French forces marching towards Vienna, the Austrians sued for peace and agreed to the Treaty of Campo Formio, ending the First Coalition against the Republic.
The War of the Second Coalition began in 1798 with the French invasion of Egypt, headed by Napoleon. The Allies took the opportunity presented by the French effort in the Middle East to regain territories lost from the First Coalition. The war began well for the Allies in Europe, where they gradually pushed the French out of Italy and invaded Switzerland—racking up victories at Magnano, Cassano and Novi along the way. However, their efforts largely unraveled with the French victory at Zurich in September 1799, which caused Russia to drop out of the war. Meanwhile, Napoleon's forces annihilated a series of Egyptian and Ottoman armies at the battles of the Pyramids, Mount Tabor and Abukir. These victories and the conquest of Egypt further enhanced Napoleon's popularity back in France and he returned in triumph in the fall of 1799. However, the Royal Navy had won the Battle of the Nile in 1798, further strengthening British control of the Mediterranean.
Napoleon's arrival from Egypt led to the fall of the Directory in the Coup of 18 Brumaire, with Napoleon installing himself as Consul. Napoleon then reorganized the French army and launched a new assault against the Austrians in Italy during the spring of 1800. This brought a decisive French victory at the Battle of Marengo in June 1800, after which the Austrians withdrew from the peninsula once again. Another crushing French triumph at Hohenlinden in Bavaria forced the Austrians to seek peace for a second time, leading to the Treaty of Lunéville in 1801. W ...

SUMMARY
=======
Martin Heidegger (; German: [ˈmaɐ̯tiːn ˈhaɪdɛɡɐ]; 26 September 1889 – 26 May 1976) was a German philosopher and a seminal thinker in the Continental tradition and philosophical hermeneutics, and is widely acknowledged to be one of the most original and important philosophers of the 20th century. Heidegger is best known for his contributions to phenomenology and existentialism, though as the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy cautions, his thinking should be identified as part of such philosophical movements only with extreme care and qualification. His membership in and support for the Nazi Party remains controversial.
His first and best known book, Being and Time (1927), though unfinished, is one of the central philosophical works of the 20th century. In its first part, Heidegger attempted to turn away from ontic questions about beings to ontological questions about Being, and recover the most fundamental philosophical question: the question of Being, of what it means for something to be. Heidegger approached the question through an inquiry into the being that has an understanding of Being, and asks the question about it, namely, Human being, which he called Dasein (being-there). Heidegger argued that Dasein is defined by Care, its practically engaged and concernful mode of being-in-the-world, in opposition to such Rationalist thinkers as René Descartes who located the essence of man in his thinking abilities.
For Heidegger thinking is thinking about things originally discovered in our everyday practical engagements. The consequence of this is that our capacity to think cannot be the most central quality of our being because thinking is a reflecting upon this more original way of discovering the world. In the second part of his book, Heidegger argues that human being is even more fundamentally structured by its Temporality, or its concern with, and relationship to time, existing as a structurally open possibility-for-being. He emphasized the importance of Authenticity in human existence, involving a truthful relationship to our thrownness into a world which we are always already concerned with, and to our being-towards-death, the Finitude of the time and being we are given, and the closing down of our various possibilities for being through time.Heidegger also made critical contributions to philosophical conceptions of truth, arguing that its original meaning was unconcealment, to philosophical analyses of art as a site of the revelation of truth, and to philosophical understanding of language as the house of being. Heidegger's later work includes criticisms of technology's instrumentalist understanding in the Western tradition as enframing, treating all of Nature as a standing reserve on call for human purposes. Heidegger is a controversial figure, largely for his affiliation with Nazism, as Rector of the University of Freiburg for 11 months, before his resignation in April 1934, for which he neither apologized nor publicly expressed regret.
