The Beautiful Tinhorn Creek Vineyard
On a hillside overlooking vineyards, sagebrush, and the old gold mining creek that is its namesake, Tinhorn Creek Vineyards has been owned and operated by the Shaunessy and Oldfield families since 1993. The winery is located south of Oliver, BC, at the junction of Highway 97 and Road 7 in the famed Golden Mile wine-growing district. This area, named for its rich history of farming that dates back to the early 1900s, is home to several quality wine producers. Tinhorn Creek sources fruit exclusively from its own vineyards: 150 acres of prime land on two very distinct benches. This land lends to the creation of terroir-driven wines that are classic illustrations of the place they are grown. The 100-acre Diamondback Vineyard on the Black Sage Bench is planted with a mix of red and white varieties, primarily Pinot Gris, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The 50-acre Tinhorn Creek Vineyard on the Golden Mile Bench is also planted with a mix of red and white grapes, but primarily features Gewürztraminer.
Farming their own vineyards using sustainable practices allows Tinhorn Creek full control over the quality of fruit delivered to the crush pad for each vintage. The winery produces wines in two tiers under one dynamic and compelling label. The single-varietal series includes a Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir and Merlot. Only worthy wines are selected each year for the winery's top tier, winemaker Sandra Oldfield's signature wines, named the Oldfield Series. This tier provides Oldfield with a playground for experimentation and is a creative showcase for the best wines from each vintage. All Tinhorn Creek wines evoke the unique terroir of the region: the sage-covered desert terrain.
Tinhorn Creek was the first winery in Canada to bottle its entire portfolio with Stelvin screw-cap closures ensuring consistent aging and a guarantee that the wine will be enjoyed as it was intended.

Tinhorn Creek Okanagan Valley Cabernet Franc - '10 - 93 Points - James Melendez
Tinhorn Creek Winery
Okanagan Valley is a great success story. In a short period of time, Okanagan Valley has transformed itself from a wine region producing wines mainly of Hybrid grapes to the noble Vitis vinifera in a short period of time. Okanagan Valley is not just producing wines from Vitis vinifera grapes but producing world class wines.
I was fortunate to complete a 'Foot on Ground' tour as I call them of this magnificent region; I was able to see a 360 view of a landscape that is compelling and gorgeous, a wonderful food culture, world class wine makers and superbly friendly people each step. I recommend a visit.
In this video I mention Sandra Oldfield, she is winemaker and CEO and owns this site and winery with her husband Kenn Oldfield, Chairman. Sandra comes from Sonoma County, trained at UC Davis and has been involved in Okangan Valley wine making for longer than a generation. She is superbly talented and bright--a person I certainly admire and she has a great love for wine and the Okanagan Valley wine region.
This wine is proof positive of Okanagan Valley's bonafide credentials of making world class wines. This wine is balanced, complex, sculpted and confident.
Scent notes of warmed suede by touch, anise, cedar wood pile, moistened earth in Fall time. Flavour characteristics of Tayberry, wild blueberry, cinnamon, sweet chile Guajillo, white mushroom and freshly ground cardamom and Thyme.

LEAD IN
Considered a small blip on the global wine producing radar, Canada's Okanagan Valley region, contains a small collection of micro-climates responsible for some of the worlds most interesting New World boutique wines.
However, this tiny wine producing area looks set to remain one of Canada's best kept secret.

Better RV MPG ~ Bringing A Gun Into Canada ~ Apple Beach RV Park ~ S3E48
We spent a few days with our very good friends Savannah and Mandy in Spokane. It has become a staple on our travel to Alaska and love hanging out with them! I begin this video a little outside of Spokane where we began our trip into Canada. We got some great news regarding our MPG. I think it was a combination of not giving the RV so much gas and flatter terrain. Regarding the gun situation. You are able to bring certain weapons into Canada. You can check on their website at I filed the non-resident firearm declaration that costs $25. With that you can enter the country three (3) times without paying the Fee. Both times I had that form from the previous entry I did not get searched. This was the first time not getting searched entering Canada from the lower 48 in 4 years! Then we make our way North to the city of Oliver where we stopped at an rv park to dump our tanks and fill our fresh water. It was called Apple Beach RV park but it has new owners and they be changing the name as I cant find it on Google anymore...
