Naifaru Juvenile - Small steps towards bigger achievements
For small-inhabited islands such as Naifaru, the simplest initiative paves many pathways towards new developments and subsequent opportunities for the locals who are always eager and enthusiastic to participate actively to improve their livelihood and the local economy. The Juvenile Aquarium project by Naifaru Juvenlie, for the conservation of marine biodiversity and awareness for environmental issues, is well integrated with the Naifaru local community, and particularly active with Naifaru schools including participation from schools across the entire Lhaviyani Atoll. These activities were carried out as part of the students' Nature Clubs with a series of awareness programs and was organised within the academic year calendar. The objects of this project focused mainly on developing community awareness about environmental issues such as waste management, protecting endangered species and coral rehabilitation.
The project, funded by the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Program (GEF SGP) and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has proved sustainable developments for the local community of Naifaru and other islands in Lhaviyani Atoll. The future growth of these developments promises expansions of the Marine Conservation Center to become an educative and environment conscious institutional body that contributes mutually benefiting outcomes for both the environment and the community that inhabits it.
Turtle release - Atoll Marine center
Floaty has been in our marine center for 2 years. He was unable to dive for a long time, but thanks to our marine biologists and our volunteers, he finally was released on June 15 2016. It was also the occasion to add 5 turtles to our sea cage, the last step before their future releases.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
The Maldives (, US: (listen); Dhivehi: ދިވެހިރާއްޖެ Dhivehi Raajje), officially the Republic of Maldives, is a country in South Asia, located in the Arabian Sea of the Indian Ocean. It lies southwest of Sri Lanka and India, about 1,000 kilometres (620 mi) from the Asian continent. The chain of 26 atolls stretches from Ihavandhippolhu Atoll in the north to Addu Atoll in the south. Comprising a territory spanning roughly 298 square kilometres (115 sq mi), the Maldives is one of the world's most geographically dispersed sovereign states as well as the smallest Asian country by land area and population, with around 427,756 inhabitants. Malé is the capital and the most populated city, traditionally called the King's Island for its central location.
The Maldives archipelago is located on the Chagos-Laccadive Ridge, a vast submarine mountain range in the Indian Ocean, which also forms a terrestrial ecoregion, together with the Chagos Archipelago and Lakshadweep. With an average ground-level elevation of 1.5 metres (4 ft 11 in) above sea level, it is the world's lowest country, with even its highest natural point being the lowest in the world, at 5.1 metres (17 ft). Due to the consequent risks posed by rising sea levels, the government pledged in 2009 to make the Maldives a carbon-neutral country by 2019.Islam was introduced to the Maldivian archipelago in the 12th century which was consolidated as a sultanate, developing strong commercial and cultural ties with Asia and Africa. From the mid-16th-century, the region came under the increasing influence of European colonial powers, with the Maldives becoming a British protectorate in 1887. Independence from the United Kingdom was achieved in 1965 and a presidential republic was established in 1968 with an elected People's Majlis. The ensuing decades have been characterised by political instability, efforts at democratic reform, and environmental challenges posed by climate change.The Maldives is a founding member of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). It is also a member of the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Non Aligned Movement. The World Bank classifies the Maldives as having an upper middle income economy. Fishing has historically been the dominant economic activity, and remains the largest sector by far, followed by the rapidly growing tourism industry. Maldives is rated high on the Human Development Index, with its per capita income significantly higher than other SAARC nations.The Maldives was a Commonwealth republic from July 1982 until its withdrawal from the Commonwealth in October 2016 in protest of international criticism of its records in relation to corruption and human rights.
