Tissington is an unspoilt rural village in Derbyshire. A true gem in the heart of England. There is a quaint village pond, beautiful cottages, a church, Tissington Hall and so much more. People live and work in the village and children attend the local school.
The Tissington Trail is a bridleway and walk/cycle path that runs for 13 miles from Parsley Hay in the north part of Tissington to Ashbourne. Throughout the year the village holds various events, one being Well Dressing, which you can see in my video.

The Launch Of A Trio Of Videos From Peak District Online - A Treat & A Triumph of Derbyshire Delight!
Peak District TV are very proud to launch their brand new triumvirate of TV holiday destinations, all celebrating the White Peak - by day and by night, with poetry and perfectly poised music. Put your feet up and escape for a while.
'December in Hartington' begins with the promise of something special- a Peak District video with a difference this time, with the calm soothing voice of a poet dictating his story. The poem depicts the silence of the night and it is refreshing to see Hartington at peace and in the dark. Gone are the sightseers and the walkers, the crowds of people who flock to see the chocolate box village in the day. Slightly spooky but never full on scary, viewing the village so quiet and in the dead of night is to see a sight only the residents can cherish. As dawn approaches, we feel the true time of year unfold in the frost covered patchwork fields, the winter mist shrouding the village as the valley gently slopes around it, enveloping Hartington in its warm arms.

And then we discover a lesser-known part of the Derbyshire Dales, basking in the sunlight in the second video today. The drama of the White Peak is portrayed here- a little place called Wolfscote Dale. With its sheer ivory walls rising dramatically above the meandering river below, it's hard to equate the ferocious name to such a serene part of the Peak District. With mysterious caves, grassy knolls and copses of trees stood proud, bewildering us how they cling on to the limestone so old, it's a Dale that's a stage set for at walker's pleasure. To wander along the river, sometimes fierce in Winter, it's stroll of pleasure on a warm Summer's day.

Tissington Hall in all its glory is the first thing we see in the third video, all about a little village with trail attached to its name. Like a scene out of a Brontë novel, the hall is made up of the limestone which makes this part of Derbyshire so resplendent. Considered to be one of the most picturesque villages in Britain, the video certainly highlights its merits for all to see. It would be quite easy to imagine the gentry driving past in bygone days, in horse and carriage - the village doesn't seem to have fully embraced its time. With tradition still ongoing, Tissington is an evocative place to make your own memories now.
With treble the ambience and thrice the flavour - these are three videos to tantalise the taste buds! See the White Peak in all its alabaster majesty -we hope you enjoy the treat.

Tissington - Peak District Villages
Presents Tissington. The picture-postcard village of Tissington has all the exquisite charm and character of the traditional English medieval country manor, being an estate village built around Tissington Hall, the great Jacobean house of the FitzHerbert family.
Tissington sits sedately beside the A515 Buxton to Ashbourne road just three miles north of Ashbourne and close by the scenic limestone paradise of Dove Dale at the southern end of Derbyshire's White Peak.
The approach to Tissington begins beside a gate-lodge on the A515 - the gates guarding not, as one might suppose, a private drive leading to a solitary country Manor, - but to an avenue of lime trees, which leads in turn to a small community that was first settled in Saxon times.
On either side of the avenue can be seen evidence of early ridge and furrow farming methods, and indeed the village's recorded history begins during Edward The Confessor's reign in 1042 when Tizinctun was divided into seven Anglo-Saxon farmsteads.By the time of the Domesday Survey in 1086 it was held by Henry de Ferrers and had a population of about 100, only slightly less than the present day.
The Savage family held the estate until around 1100 and then for almost 400 years it remained divided until Nicholas FitzHerbert of Somersal married Cecily Franceys whose family owned one half of it. Later, in Elizabethan times, his grandson Francis FitzHerbert united the estate once again when he purchased the other half from the Cockaynes. Thus for half of the 1000 years of it's recorded history Tissington has been owned, maintained, and nurtured by the FitzHerbert family.

Wooden boards coated in clay are decorated with tens of thousands of petals, leaves and pieces of foliage to create giant intricate mosaics. The boards, that each take teams of ten villages three days to make are part of the Well Dressing displays in Tissington, Derbyshire.
The village has been decorating its six wells every year for more than six hundred years. The tradition is believed to be a celebration of the wells never running dry, giving life and sustaining the village during times of plague. After a church service today (Thursday) clergy from six parish will bless each of the well.
Following in Tissington's footsteps many other villages in the Derbyshire area also have their own well dressing traditions.

During the winter months, Britain is on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), which is 5 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time and 10 hours behind Sydney. Western standard time is five hours behind.
From late March until late October, the clocks go forward one hour to British Summer Time (BST).
