Cameron Highlands - from Melaka - Tanah Rata - George from TJ Travel
The Cameron Highlands is located about 300 km north of Kuala Lumpur in the Titiwangsa Range high above the plains of Peninsular Malaysia.
British surveyor William Cameron discovered the area as an interesting geographical formation in 1885. Subsequent expeditions identified this beautiful part of Malaysia as ideal for retreat and agriculture despite initial difficulty of access through thick jungle.
The first hill station was established in 1925 and development followed. The British eventually viewed it as a beautiful destination to escape the tropical heat and humidity of Kuala Lumpur and other lowlands. With time it became a desirable location to live and carry on agriculture
The first tea plantation followed in 1929 and tea production became a major agricultural activity in the area over the years. The famous Boh Tea Plantation dates back to that first plantation. The Highlands have developed into a major tourist destination in Malaysia due to its aforementioned climate and physical beauty making it a perfect destination for outdoor activities.
The main town in the Cameron Highlands is Tanah Rata and all facilities to make for a pleasant stay in the Highlands are available here.
I was very fortunate to meet George from TJ Travel and Tours who proved to be a valuable source of information regarding the area as well as Malaysia.
The Cameron Highlands have become a must to any visit to Malaysia.

Cameron Highlands is the smallest district in Pahang which is located in the north- western corner of the state. One of the most popular hill resort in the country, this highland destination still retains much of the charm of an English village. Being the primary agricultural region of the nation, you will find an abundance of vegetable farms dotted all over the highlands. Cameron Highlands is also the leading producer of flowers and tea in Malaysia. ameron Highlands was named after William Cameron, a British government surveyor who stumbled across a plateau in 1885 during a mapping expedition on the Titiwangsa Range. Failing to mark his discovery on the map, the location of the plateau was a finally confirmed by subsequent expeditions after which Sir Hugh Low suggested that this would be an ideal location for a retreat and farmland. A narrow path to the highlands was then cut through the dense jungles of the highlands.

Konsortium Tour Coach Bus Cameron Highlands
Beware when you board Konsortium Buses to Cameron Highland for a surprise boarding of the bus at Brinchang under the guise of 'caring for your safety' by a Mr Kumar or other reps from Titiwangsa Tours. We were held back by at least two hours waiting for him to finish with other buses before he comes across to our bus . Reason for the hold back: So that he can sell his tours to the passengers.
He also has the gall to tell you to get off the bus if you wish to get to the hotel on your own .... otherwise to let him say his piece. Konsortium is defintely in cahoots with him as the drivers were not willing to drive off until he does his pitch.

Located in the north-eastern fringe of Kuala Lumpur, Taman Tasik Titiwangsa is a recreational park with a large lake as its main attraction. A popular rendezvous amongst city dwellers, it offers tennis courts, an exercise area, a playground for children and other recreational facilities for water sports, jogging and the like. Located nearby is the Remote Control (RC) Car track that is complete with a drivers platform and seating for spectators, making it a popular attraction among RC enthusiasts on the weekends. Also within the vicinity of the park is a stadium. This 95 hectares park is a vast area that consists of a 57 hectares lake where anglers will be glad to know that they are allowed to fish here. Other facilities at the park include a Remote Control car track, a cycling track, a football field, a boathouse and aquatic activities, a viewing tower, playground and pavilion.

Traveling through Cameron Highlands, Malaysia
Three fabulous weeks in Cameron Highlands! The weather is considerably cooler than the rest of the country, which is a welcome relief. Cameron Highlands is located on the Titiwangsa Range at about 1500 metres above sea-level, so the weather remains at the lower to mid 20′s most of the time. It's the leading producer of flowers and tea in Malaysia and the tea plantations are a wonderful sight.
Tanah Rata is the heart of Cameron Highlands. The name “tanah rata” actually means flat ground in the Malay language and it refers to the relatively flat area on which the town is located amidst the surrounding hills and mountain peaks. Being slightly laid back but with access to everything you need, this is where most of the guesthouses and backpackers are situated.
Things to do, include visiting the tea plantations, strawberry farms, bee farm, butterfly farm, lavender garden, mossy forest, jungle trails, time tunnel, temples and lots of yummy food ...

Our trip to Cameron Highlands
We travelled from Ipoh to Cameron Highlands by bus and stayed 4 nights in Tanah Rata. We hiked, visited Tea Plantations, Mossy Forest and Strawberry Farms. The people and food are lovely. Visit the Camerons before it gets spoilt by over-development.
Fraser's Hill - Tourist Attractions in Malaysia
Fraser's Hill (or Bukit Fraser in Malay) is a hill resort located on the Titiwangsa Ridge in the state of Pahang in Malaysia.
Fraser's Hill includes seven peaks, with altitudes between 1,220 and 1,524 meters above sea level. The Meteorological Department station is measured at 1,280 m. Year round temperatures are between 17°C~25°C / 63°F~77°F.
The resort is situated 64.6 miles (104 km) from the capital city, Kuala Lumpur. At the foot of the steep ascent, at an altitude of only 800m, is The Gap, where a colonial resthouse remains open. The winding 8 km single-track road up from The Gap is open in alternate directions each hour; odds hours for going up and even hours for going down. The drive from The Gap to Fraser's Hill takes less than 20 minutes. Some visitors prefer to walk up, spotting birds and enjoying the noticeable fall in temperature. A new alternative road was opened in 2001, but from time to time this is closed due to landslides.
