15 Things to do in Split, Croatia Travel Guide Video Transcript: (Grad Split Hrvatska):
It is no secret that Croatia is one of our favourite countries to travel in Europe, and Split is a destination that can’t be missed.
Set in and around the walls of an ancient Roman palace looking out to the Adriatic Sea, Split is what travel dreams are made of: sunny, scenic, and filled with historic sights and culinary delights.
The streets are marble maze where pieces of history lay hidden around every corner, the harbour is lined with cafes and palm trees drawing out locals and visitors to promenade in the sunshine, and let’s not forget about the abundance of restaurants serving up fresh seafood and Croatian dishes with a contemporary twist!
Join us in this travel guide as we take you on a tour of the city and show you 15 things to do in Split, Croatia!
Diocletian was a Roman Emperor who ruled from the years 284 to 305. He was born in Dalmatia, and when it came time to build his retirement residence, he chose this very spot which today forms the Old Town of Split.
It made sense to start our tour of Split here. First, the bell tower for a quick look at the city from above. Next to the bell tower, you have the Mausoleum of Diocletian. Emperor Diocletian was a persecutor of Christians, and ironically, his mausoleum is now a cathedral named after Saint Domnius, who was martyred by Diocletian.
We walked over to the Temple of Jupiter. Interesting fact: the sphinx you see at the entrance was one of the twelve sphinxes brought from Egypt by Emperor Diocletian.
The crypt sits directly underneath the cathedral and it’s dedicated to Saint Lucy, another victim of the religious persecutions under the rule of Diocletian.
We walked through the underground market which is open to the public free of charge. This market is also located at basement level and it is filled with vendors selling all types of artwork and souvenirs. We also walked up the Marjan Steps for scenic views of Split.
Marjan Hill is 178 meters high and it takes 314 steps to reach the highest point. It’s a very pleasant walk with lots of greenery, and along the way we even came across an old stone church.
Then on the way back down the hill, we went for a walk through Varoš.
And while we were in Split, we also made time to visit a statue with a rather famous toe. This is Grgur Ninski. He was a medieval Croatian bishop who introduced the national language in the religious services.
Now a travel tip: while you’re out strolling down the Rive Promenade, you can also access Matejuška Port, which is a small harbour for small boats used mainly by the local fishermen. This particular spot offers some really nice views looking back on Split.
That’s a wrap for our travel guide to Split! If you have ideas of things to do in Split please share those in the comments below.

Join us for a ferry from Split to Hvar, Croatia in this travel vlog where we start off the day in Zadar taking a scenic bus ride to Split. With time to kill in Split we grab a Kebab and then wait at the ferry terminal taking advantage of the free wifi. I take a walk around Split filming a little bit while Audrey gets caught up on work. Finally it is time to board the ferry and travel from Split to Hvar Island. Witnessing a gorgeous sunset in Split it doesn't take long for it to get dark outside when we arrive in Hvar. After dropping of our bags at rental apartment we then go out for pizza. A long but satisfying travel day!

Ferry from Split to Hvar, Croatia travel vlog Video Transcript:
Well good morning good morning. Good morning guys. Today is a travel day and we're actually it sure is running a little bit late. So let's make this look down at my shoe at the moment. Like I am tying my shoes and we're running out the door. We really don't have a second to spare. Haha. Okay, so basically we're currently in Zadar. Today we're taking the bus to Split and then the ferry to Hvar. We've got a bit of a long connection so that will be great. Maybe we'll do some sightseeing, maybe we'll get some work done but now let's do a quick apartment tour and let's get out of here. Let's do it.
The update is we have arrived here in Split. Yes. And guess what? The bus terminal is right across from the ferry terminal. It couldn't have been any more conveniently located. Yeah. And we weren't sure which bus terminal we were going to get dropped off at because there are two and one of them would have involved a 20 minute walk. Yes. But we are right out on the water. Yep. It is just incredible. And that bus ride that was something spectacular. Like the scenery was just stunning the whole way. It almost felt like we were on a sightseeing trip as opposed to like a normal bus ride. I just couldn't put my camera down so. Yeah, you were filming the whole way.
We've found a little quiet corner here in the ferry terminal. And Sam is making me do math. Yes. So let's talk prices. Bus tickets, we booked them online with Get By Bus and it was 86 Kuna per person which was about 13 US dollars. Yeah, and that was coming from Zadar this morning. Yep. Yeah, Zadar to Split. And then the ferry also booked it online with Jadrolinija and it was 40 Kuna per person which we said was 6 dollars? A little over 6 dollars. Yeah, yeah. So that is pretty good. And something to keep in mind is the bus was what 3.5 hours?
I had my little jaunt around Split. It was wonderful. Like this city is awesome. And you're probably wondering like this is a pretty famous city in Croatia. Yeah, why are we skipping it right now Sam? Why are we skipping it?
The reason being is that we're going to come here next year with my parents. Yes. So in March. We're doing Split and Dubrovnik with them. Yeah, yeah. Exactly. So we're skipping it this time and going to Hvar instead. But uh it certainly looks beautiful and yeah I can't wait to actually properly explore here. Okay, and now time to go find our ferry.
We've arrived! Now it is time to go find our apartment and then go out for dinner to find some pizza and pasta.
Okay guys we picked up some groceries on the way back. Yeah. We are absolutely destroyed. Knackered. Knackered to the next level. So we're going to say goodbye to you from here and yeah thanks for following along on this journey and we can't wait to show you around Hvar. Bye.

I to je Hrvatska - Dioklecijanova palača (Split)
Pogledjte 3D animaciju palače-
Epizoda: 40

Meri Cetinic was born June 15 1953 in Split, Croatia. Her family background is from Blato on the island of Korcula, where her parents were born, moving later to Split at the beginning of the 1950s, when Meri was born. Growing up in a humble albeit harmonic family atmosphere, alongside a father who was an electrician, mother housekeeper and two older brothers -- Ante and Boris -- she began to show signs of exceptional musical talent, singing in particular, at a very early age. As a child she began to perform in public, and during elementary school took all the lead roles in school performances.Meri completed her secondary school education at the Music High School and graduated from the Teacher's Academy in Split with a major in Music.
At an early age she began to listen to Black American musicians, loving both Blues and Gospel music. At 14 she won 1st place with the song Warm and Tender Love by Percy Sledge, at the Raspjevanom proljecu (Springtime) Festival in Split. At 15 she became a member of the CHE band as an organist. Meri, at that time, played the first Hammond organ in the city. When she was 17 she stopped with CHE and began to sing in the group Delfini (Dolphins) as a solo vocal singer, touring for the first time across the former USSR. Her repertoire consisted mainly of songs by Janis Joplin, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and similar groups and singers.
Soon after she began to sing with the Delfini she broke with the group in order to enroll into the Teacher's Academy in Split, and studied voice with Prof. Branka Ristic. At the Academy she meets Slobodan M. Kovacevic with whom she forms the group More (The Sea), wherein Meri plays piano and is the solo vocalist. Alongside S. M. Kovacevic, Meri becomes a composer and arranges music for the band. They release several singles and the album More which made great success, as did its cover song More. Furthermore, at the Splitski festival, (Split Festival) the group achieves two more successes with the hit songs Gdje god da podeš (Wherever You May Go) and Samo simpatija (Just a Sweetheart). After several successful and flourishing years with More, Meri begins here own solo musical career.
