Toimisaki Lighthouse

Biking to Cape Toi, Kushima, Miyazaki, Japan

Cape Toi, located in the south of Miyazaki Prefecture, is a cape at the east end of Shibushi Bay, which is in the southernmost part of the Nichinan-kaigan Coast. Gentle hills extend, and you can observe wild horses, called Misaki-uma, living and grazing there. It is said that the Misaki-uma are the descendants of army horses left grazing and which became wild 300 years ago. They are now designated as a natural monument. At the Horse House in the Toi-misaki Visitor Center, information about the ecology and living circumstances of the Misaki-uma is displayed on panels.

宮崎県串間市の都井岬を訪れました。
I visited Cape Toi（Toi-Misaki） Miyazaki Prefecture Kushima.

都井岬には野生馬がいます。
The Cape Toi There are wild horses.

ここの馬たちは国の天然記念物に指定されています。
Cape Toi's Horses has been designated as a national natural monument.

江戸時代、高鍋藩が軍用馬飼育のために馬の放牧を始めました。
Edo era, Takanabe clan began grazing of horses for military horse breeding.


その後、馬たちは半野生化しました。
After that, the horses has been a semi-wild.

都井岬には、灯台もあります。
The Cape Toi, there is also a lighthouse.
