Take a walk with SPIDER- Takeshi Hamanaka street show #1“Hunter”, The Met, New York 11.09,2010 004
The Met was not a good place for my show because security guards were so mean to me. They finally did not allow me to take pictures on the stairs in front of it. I guess they are not a big fan of Contemporary Art.
Take a walk with SPIDER - Takeshi Hamanaka Street Show #1
Pegasus is pleased to present the street show Take a walk with SPIDER-11.03-09, 2010 by sculptor, Takeshi Hamanaka. In this show, he carries the plastic bottle sculpture on his back and takes a walk around Chelsea and some other areas in New York.
Artist Statement “Hunter”
One day I find a Jumping Spider in my studio. It hunts a mosquito very quickly. Then I start to have an interest in their life. That kind of spiders don’t make any spider’s web. Jumping Spiders always move around for hunting bugs. They have 8 eyes of 360 degree view on the head. In the case of danger, they use a string and jump down for running away. Finally, the jumping spider looks like a proud hunter to me.

Artist Statement - Nontemporary Art
Art used to be more passionate, powerful and soulful. It seemed like beautiful lovers resolved the differences between races and cultures. At that moment Art became more apathetic, powerless and empty and we called it Contemporary Art. “The time of Contemporary Art is over. I am beginning Nontemporary Art from now.” Nontemporary Art is an attempt to regain the core of Art.

“Sacred Evil”☆ Spider Street Show #2, Takeshi Hamanaka- Recycled Art, Art Fair Tokyo 7.31, 2011 011
Artist Statement Sacred Evil
From old, there is a philosophy that complete right or wrong does not exist in Japan. Kishin (Ogre God) might be the good example. Literally, the Kishin is the one that the Ogre and the God united. It shows that a sacred mind and an evil mind stay in any person. During the Great East Japan Earthquake, even in case of being under a serious situation, there were people who controlled their feelings and acted rationally, and were people who acted in selfish like feelings, too. Do you share the limited food by everyone or monopolize it? Such time, whether you will be a human or you will become a hungry ogre brute is up to you.
I drew the Kishin's face in the Red Demon Spider's back with such a thought.

Piazza SAN Marco- Spider Street Show #19 “Tarantella” by Takeshi Hamanaka, Venice 6.3, 2019 399
June 3, Piazza San Marco of Venice was really beautiful at the evening.
By the way, the Italian song of “Funiculi Funicula” is very popular in Japan. The Japanese kids version is known as “The Ogre’s Pants”.

About the artwork Fukushima 2011
Fukushima 2011 is the artwork which was inspired by the Fukushima nuclear disaster in 2011. Then the monster is called nuclear power which we made has suddenly attacked us. We were too powerless to the nuclear hazard beyond prediction.
This Spider with nine legs and nine eyes is a monster which does not exist in nature. The one side expresses the nuclear reactor which is carrying out meltdown, and the other side expresses the atomic bomb. The whole body symbolizes the fact that nuclear power plants are almost same as nuclear weapons.
We have been brainwashed for a long time as nuclear power is safety, economical and clean energy. However, it was not truth.
We don't need nuclear power plants any more.
