When you first arrive in Japan, one of the first things you'll notice is the language barrier - knowing absolutely zero Japanese can keep you from visiting the local places in Japan you really want to see. The good news is that people don't expect you to speak Japanese, but if you even know a few phrases, people will be happy that you're trying and very encouraging even if you make some mistakes. A Yakuza in Love (1997) -- Rokuro Mochizuki's third in his yakuza trilogy. First let me compliment the composition of the cover and the thumbnail. It was readily used in True Romance, written by Tarantino and directed by Tony Scott and has the best ensemble cast to date. If you haven't seen that film, turn this off and go find it. This film is call Koi Gokudo. Gokudo is just a generic term for yakuza or ninkyō dantai (as they like to be known). However there are different yakuza. A bakuto for instance is a gambler. There are also bankers, drug dealers, sex workers etc. Eventually the modern yakuza congealed into 3 large orgs involved in every facet of global economics. In Japan, it's still mainly Kansai vs. Kanto with maybe Naha being on the outside. Back to the film..

Definitely gonna get a lot of hate for this, but I tried some whale shavings on top of ice cream. Japan gets a lot of crap for what many see as barbaric whaling practices. I don't really have a stand one way or the other. But I knew I had to try this just because I believe in trying anything once, my verdict? Probably not actually whale shavings, kind of tasted like chocolate. Pretty sure it's a gimmick, but still entertaining.

It has always been my goal to spread a little cheer to others through my channel. Therefore, posting such a dark movie might be a little uncharacteristic of me. However, I believe that the message of hope it brings is important. Take heart, this movie ends with a Happy Ending. And this thought is what pulled me through its darkest moments.
This poor movie had been left at 85% complete for nearly half a year (because I have the attention span of a 3-year-old). I recently decided to finish it even though I know there is already an English version available. I'll let this be a CC version so anyone can translate the subtitles into their own language (◕ᴗ◕✿) As always, if you use my subtitles on your videos, please do give me some credit, thanks.

Kenji Mizoguchi, Oyuki The Virgin 1935
Based on a short story by Guy de Maupassant, Mizoguchi tells the story of two courtesans who travel in the same carriage with a rich family. Though they gave them food, nonetheless they treat them with contempt. Later on we see them in love with an officer, but they soon realize that their love is doomed, so they help him to escape the enemy forces.
