Tokyo Skytree Tower, Asakusa and the Sumida River | Life in Japan 東京スカイツリータワー
About a year ago we embarked on our first trip to ascend Japan's famous Tokyo Skytree Tower in Asakusa. Afterwards we enjoyed a relaxing boat ride down the Sumida River to Odaiba where we enjoyed the sights. One thing for sure: there's no way to see Tokyo quite like the Skytree.

JAPAN TOUR GUIDE | TOKYO SKYTREE VISIT 2019
Tokyo Skytree is a broadcasting tower in Sumida ward, eastern Tokyo, that offers visitors panoramic views of the metropolis as well as a huge array of Solamachi shopping, dining and entertainment opportunities.

Tokyo SkyTree
Tokyo Skytree is 634 meters high making it the tallest completely self-supporting tower in the world. 634 can be phoneticized in Japanese as mu-sa-shi and was a number intentionally picked to represent the name of the old province, Musashi, that Tokyo used to be part of, centuries ago.
Completed in 2012, Tokyo Skytree has quickly become a new symbol of Tokyo. Its striking white profile is visible throughout much of the city, adding a new, bold futuristic touch to the urban skyline. Tokyo Skytree is beautifully lit up till late in the evening in patterns of light that change from day to day, making for a photogenic presence at nighttime as well.

Tokyo Skytree Town
Tokyo Skytree is not just the tower, but includes the huge, multi-story, split-level shopping, dining and entertainment complex called Tokyo Skytree Town that the tower presides over. Most of Tokyo Skytree Town is taken up by the Solamachi shopping and dining mall, and which also includes museums, an aquarium and souvenir shops.
Tokyo Skytree tower is, of course, the main attraction. It is eye-catching in its web-like design, and with a triangular base that morphs upwards to cylindrical. It has two observation decks: the Tembo Deck at about 350 meters, and the Tembo Galleria at 450 meters.
Asakusa to Tokyo Skytree Street View Adventure
Tokyo has some incredible walks and this one has become popular with many tourists to Japan. The Tokyo Skytree is one of the tallest freestanding towers in the world at 634 meters (2,080 ft) and we’ll head there from the ancient Sensoji with the huge Kaminarimon Gate red lantern hanging out in front. From an ancient town to a new one called Oshiage — let’s walk street view! #tokyo #asakusa #skytree

Tokyo Skytree, Sumida, Tokyo, Japan
Tokyo Skytree (東京スカイツリー Tōkyō Sukaitsurī?) is a broadcasting, restaurant, and observation tower in Sumida, Tokyo, Japan. It became the tallest structure in Japan in 2010 and reached its full height of 634.0 metres (2,080 ft) in March 2011, making it the tallest tower in the world, displacing the Canton Tower, and the second tallest structure in the world after the Burj Khalifa (829.8 m/2,722 ft).
The tower is the primary television and radio broadcast site for the Kantō region; the older Tokyo Tower no longer gives complete digital terrestrial television broadcasting coverage because it is surrounded by high-rise buildings. Skytree was completed on 29 February 2012, with the tower opening to the public on 22 May 2012. The tower is the centrepiece of a large commercial development funded by Tobu Railway and a group of six terrestrial broadcasters headed by NHK. Trains stop at the adjacent Tokyo Skytree Station and nearby Oshiage Station. The complex is 7 km (4.3 mi) north-east of Tokyo Station.

Friends in high places: Tokyo Skytree’s window washers
Tokyo Skytree, located in the city's Sumida Ward and completed in 2012, stands at a height of 634 meters, making it the second-tallest structure in the world after the 829.8-meter Burj Khalifa skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The tower has two observation areas for visitors — Tembo Deck at 350 meters and Tembo Galleria at 450 meters. For visitors to be able to properly enjoy the view from either deck, however, the windows must be kept clean. That's where Tachibana and his fearless colleagues come in. The workers clean the tower and the surrounding buildings six or seven times a month.
You don't often get the chance to look at scenery from this kind of height, Tachibana says. Being able to take in this view and feel the breeze without any windows in front of you is one of the privileges of the job. When there's no glass, you see the full panorama and get a sense of realism.
