Tollymore Forest Park in 4K - Newcastle Northern Ireland
Tollymore Forest Park in Newcastle Northern Ireland is one of the first state forest parks in Northern Ireland. It was established in 1955 and is located at Bryansford beside Newcastle. We have to say that this is one of our favorite forest parks in Northern Ireland and one which we enjoy spending our times at.
The park covers camping, biking, walks and was used for two scenes from the hit TV Show - Game of Thrones. Almost all the scenes that appeared in this movie were taken in Northern Ireland, so if you happen to be one of the fans then coming to this country and following those locations could be your next hunt.
Nature is always different and it brings so many bright feelings and times to the person. While walking through Tollymore Forest Park, you will not only come across the different trees, but you will also enjoy the Shimna River that goes through the whole park and which is crossed through 16 bridges found inside, with the earliest and oldest one dating back to 1726 - another interesting thing to do is to count those bridges; we have done that once before :-) (
Choosing the trail that suits you with the length that would be perfect for your abilities is one of the different features that this forest park tend to offer its visitors; there are four different trails in the park which are signposted by different colors to give people the chance to differentiate between them. These trails differ in their length and the longest of them is the long haul trail which is 8 miles long.
The area is almost 630 hectares - which makes about 1,600 kilometers - and has great views of the mountain ranges in the surrounding area - including the Mourne Mountains which is one of the most famous ones in Northern Ireland.
There are several things that differentiate this forest park, whether it is about the different types of trees which tree lovers could enjoy watching or else the views which are provided for those visiting the place, but there will always be a thing that will attract people to this forest park. One of those things which is also beneficial to be mentioned is that the oak wood in Tollymore Forest Park was considered the best to build the interiors of Titanic Ship which was built in Belfast back then (
One of the other things that also make this forest park different from all the others is the entrance gate that welcomes its visitors with, this gate gives people the feeling that they are going to get inside an old church built years and years back and not just a park which they are going to have a nice and different walk inside.
With the huge space that this forest park tends to cover, there are different outdoor activities that could take place in it and which include walking of course, as well as kayaking, caravanning and camping, horse riding and orienteering, and we should also mention the kids space area that is found inside the place and which makes it a perfect match for the families who have kids with them.
One of the interesting kids area in Tollymore forest park is the Big Deer which is designed for four to eleven year olds and which features a giant timber Fallow Deer, castle turret, folly tower and hollow tree, these are all connected to one another with a series of rope bridges, tunnels, spider webs, basket swings and slides - we could definitely be sure that it will keep your kids interested and entertained.
Tollymore Forest Park in 4K - Newcastle Northern Ireland - Perfect for Camping, Walks and GOT. There is an activity centre on site as well - that is often used by schools or groups - the water activities seem to be particularly popular.
There are different forest parks in Northern Ireland which one could visit and enjoy some good time at while being with the family members and the kids. In addition to Tollymore Forest Park ( we have also been to other beautiful parks around the country which we would recommend, such as the famous Botanic Gardens in Belfast ( there is also Castlewellan Forest Park ( we have visited Victoria Park in Belfast before and which is also considered and recognized as one of the oldest ( and there is also Clement Wilson Park in Newforge in Belfast (
There are actually lots of parks and gardens in Northern Ireland and Ireland which you could visit but you should always check the features they have to know whether the one you are heading to will manage to serve your family needs or else will fail.

Tollymore Forest, Newcastle, County Down, Northern Ireland - Forest Parks in Northern Ireland #GOT
Long time ago, the first state forest park was established in Northern Ireland, located at Bryansford, near the town of Newcastle in the Mourne and Slieve Croob Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty ( this forest park is what is now called Tollymore Forest.
Apart from being a location where some of the scenes in the famous Game of Thrones movie series were taken, this place is also considered beautiful for visiting in general and having a walk through because of the huge area it tends to cover - it covers an area of 630 hectares - and also for the views it tends to offer for those walking through the place - it has views of the surrounding mountains and the sea at the nearby Newcastle; all these things make the place a destination to be placed on the list of things that one should be visiting in Northern Ireland.
We at Connolly Cove prefer those green areas that bring us directly into nature and let us experience the beautiful scenes around us that might be including the trees, waterfalls, sea, etc. When it comes to Tollymore Forest then mentioning the Shimna River is a must, which flows through the park and is actually crossed by 16 bridges, in which the oldest dates back to 1726.
Usually, there is something interesting about the parks which one gets the chance to visit in Ireland or Northern Ireland, and in the case of the Tollmore Forest Park, we have to mention that there are four different trails which one could choose from and follow, every single one of these trails has a different color that is different in its length, giving visitors the chance to choose between the longest and the shortest according to how long they are willing to walk.
There are different activities that one could enjoy doing in Tollymore Forest in Newcastle in addition to walking, such as caravanning and camping, horse riding and orienteering, and there are also other visits that might be related to sporting events and educational visits - it will always depend on the time you are visiting the forest at, but eventually walking through this forest park is considered the best thing one could do.
In addition to the different trails which are differentiated by the colors, there are still other important spots to mention when it comes to Tollymore Forest and which include River Shimna, the Stone Bridges, the Cedar Avenue, the Hermitage, as well as the Clanbrassil Barn, and in case you needed anything during your visit, you could still ask the information kiosk at the entrance in the beginning of the journey about anything you are missing or anything you want.
There are different locations in Northern Ireland in which the scenes of Game of Thrones were being taken and Tollymore Castle is one of them, but there is also the Cushendun Caves ( there is also Portstewart Strand ( the Dark Hedges ( Toome Canal ( as well as other different locations and even restaurants in which the doors were being filmed as well.
We have been to different other places and destinations in county Down in addition to the Tollymore Forest Park and which every single one of them deserves to be visited but according to the interests of every person.
From the destinations which we have reached, there is Donaghadee which is 6 miles away from Bangor ( which is famous with the lighthouse on the pier that is looking into the sea, we have also visited Ballywater in county Down and enjoyed that vast beach it has ( Rostrevor was another location we have reached and which we also enjoyed being at ( we have visited Dandrum Castle ( every single destination of these is different and makes the whole trip a lot more interesting.
We are always into those castles and green areas because they bring two important things to our lives; the castles bring the history back to us and let us fall in love more with those buildings which are still standing until these days, while the forests and parks on the other hand tend to relax us and free our minds and bodies, which is another thing we appreciate.
For those who are fans of the Game of Thrones movies then Tollymore Forest Park would be a beautiful destination to head for while being in county Down, Northern Ireland, to check what they have seen on screen and at the same time enjoy the place by themselves, either through choosing one of the different trails and walking it or else through doing any of the other activities that might be found.

Tollymore Autumn Ramble | Part 1
A trip down to Tollymore Forest Park at the foot of the Mourne Mountains in Northern Ireland.
Other commitments had kept me away from the Forest the previous few weeks when peak Autumn Colour was around, but I thought it was still good to get out for a few days shooting.
You may notice that a few times I talk about a certain scene and then either show something different or move on. In these cases the image that I was hoping for just didn't work, mostly due to the lack of light.
Still, I thought it useful to talk through my thought process in each one, after all these videos are not just about showing the final image, rather my own journey.
Oh and don't mention that I forgot my polariser / didn't forget my polariser ...
Hope you enjoy ...

Thurne Parks Conservation Area in Winter (Newcastle, ON - January 2017)
During a winter afternoon stroll at Thurne Parks Conservation Area, a hairy woodpecker was spotted, pecking away at tree bark. Some light flurries were coming down, which was a nice touch for the late January visit. It was a nice addition to both the rushing water of Wilmot Creek and the icicles that have formed on fallen branches above its waterline.
