Kemerovo (Russian: Кемерово, IPA: [ˈkʲemʲɪrəvə]) is an industrial city and the administrative center of Kemerovo Oblast, Russia, located at the confluence of the Iskitim and Tom Rivers, in the major coal mining region of the Kuznetsk Basin. Population:

The industrialization of Kemerovo was driven and underpinned by coal mining and by the heavy industry based on the availability of coal. It remains an important industrial city, built up during the Soviet period, with important steel, aluminum and machinery based manufacturing plants along with chemical, fertilizer, and other manufacturing industries. Since the disintegration of the Soviet Union, the city's industries have experienced a severe decline, creating high levels of unemployment. Major companies based in the city include Siberian Business Union.

Kemerovo is linked to western Russia by a branch of the Trans-Siberian Railway and has the Kemerovo Railway station.
The city is served by the Kemerovo International Airport.

Russia: More than 2,000 evacuated as Tom River burst its banks in Siberia

The city of Belogorsk in the Russian Far East was covered by water as the Tom River burst its banks after heavy rains hit the region, footage filmed on Thursday shows.
One of the worst hit areas was the Staritsa Island area of Belogorsk, with residents saying the level of flooding is unprecedented.
It has also happened before, but it was more rarely and it was not as horrible as this, said one resident, Galina Gazakhova.
Some 30 people have been evacuated from the Staritsa Island area, with those who decided to stay at their homes being provided with food and water.
For now this island is partly flooded. Several rescue squads are working here, they bring water and food for those residents who do not want to leave their houses, local EMERCOM employee said.
According to local authorities, in the Amur region more than 2,500 people were evacuated because of the flooding. The water level in the Tom River is expected to rise further in the coming days.

A mobile intensive care unit designed for medical emergencies in mines was showcased in Kemerovo on Tuesday. The device was developed by the Sibelectro plant in Novokuznetsk and Kemerovo Emergency Medicine Centre.
SOT, Ilgiz Gileyev, Deputy Director, Kemerovo Emergency Medicine Centre (Russian): “The mobile underground intensive care unit has an airproof body with excess pressure inside. Dirty air cannot get inside the cabin. The injured have almost hospital-like conditions inside.”
