FULL 1080p HD!
So finally after years of thought and planning and having been on my To Do list for quite some time, in July 2014 I visited the Greek, Aegean Island of Skiathos, Europe's version of St. Maarten!
I took so much footage during the course of our weeks visit and was struggling to decide what I should do with it all, so I decided that it was all too good to cut bits out, so here you have, my longest upload to date! 2 hours 10 minutes of non-stop footage, pretty much straight from camera to YouTube exactly as it was filmed!
About Skiathos Airport:
Skiathos airport is perfect for filming & photography (as long as you're not standing in the blast!) There's no fence in the way, rumoured to be because it'd be too high for arrivals!
Nothing can land in the dark because the runway doesn't have substantial lighting.
Arrivals & Departures are stopped if the runway surface is too wet because it is too short & becomes slippery.
Many airlines enforce that only certain experienced pilots (Captains) can fly there.
Only 3 aircraft can be parked at a time!
It is currently undergoing reconstruction, the end of RWY20 has been extended slightly and the tarmac is being extended to allow more aircraft to park at once.
Boeing 757's are the only aircraft used that makes it direct from Skiathos to the UK without a stop apart from the newly adapted Boeing 737's operated by Thomson (now used on their Luton route) All Airbus A320's & A321's make stops in either Kavala, Volos or Thessaloniki before continuing to the UK because they haven't got the power to take off from Skiathos' short runway with enough fuel to make it directly back.
There are traffic lights controlled by Air Traffic Control to stop motorists driving behind the runway during arrivals & departures, because 1) A departing aircraft could flip a car & 2) if there was a HGV on the road it'd be in the way of arriving aircraft!
Where this footage was taken, there is a little bar to the left called Amaretto Cafe Snack bar, so if you're on the island go there, they're friendly serve Breakfast, beers, ice cream, soft drinks ect. and display the arrivals board inside!
Aviation enthusiasts, enjoy!
Below I will organise it in date order and briefly list what we saw each day and at what time in the video footage from that date begins.

We had just arrived and were all quite keen to catch the exact aircraft we had just arrived on, Thomas Cook 757-200, G-FCLI depart back to London Gatwick, so we hurried straight to the end of the runway in time to catch it!

TUESDAY 15th JULY 2014: ( From 01:36:38 )
A storm had crossed the island and with it brought lots of rain, thunder & lightening! As a result 2x Thomas Cook Scandinavia's were diverted! One to Athens & the other Kavala, while a Transavia 737 was struck by lightening and was stranded in Kavala with a delay of 25 hours until the next day!!
But once the storm was pretty much over we caught, Volotea 717's, Thomson 757's, 2x Monarch A320's & a 757, Niki A320, Cyprus A320, the 2x Thomas Cook Scandinavia diverts coming back about 5 hours later than planned!

Planes at Chambery, Aix-Les-Bains | 22/03/14

1080p HD!
*PLEASE READ
Saturdays are the busiest day of the week at Chambery (French Alps), which brings in a huge quantity of charter flights from across the UK and a few other European hubs. On saturday 22nd March, as you can see, the weather was rather bad, clouds rolling down the mountain side created very poor visibility at times and the torrential rain just adding to the problems. The runway at Chambery is very short and it all directions there are steep mountain sides, so made for a rather challenging day for ATC and the pilots trying to land at this tiny airport and in time with all the other traffic.
Notice the Titan A320 from Stansted perform a go-around! Also the FlyBe ERJ190 seen in this video did do a go-around but I missed it, but you do see it land successfully.
AIRCRAFT INCLUDED:
Thomson 757's & 737's, Titan 757 & A320, S7 A320, Jet2 737's & 757's, Flybe ERJ190 & ERJ170, BA ERJ190, Private Livery 737 and lots of other bizjets.
I tried finding a spot to film from outside at the beginning however the rain was just so heavy I got soaked, so I returned to the terminal and found a better place in the upstairs bar smoking area. However at one end of the bar its open for the smokers, so I avoided standing in the rain. But right up against the windows seemed sheltered so I still managed to get some great shots!
Thanks for watching!
