The most remarkable thing about the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido, and it's capital city Sapporo is the contrast in temperatures between winter and summer.
As a result of the thick snows that turns the city into a winter wonderland during the winter months, Sapporo is favoured more as a winter sports destination than a spring or summer resort. There are ski-slopes within the city limits and residents often enjoy a quick run after work. Sapporo is one of Japan's newest cities, having been constructed almost from scratch as the capital of Hokkaido in 1871.
Sapporo is a clean, well-organised and attractive city with plenty of parks and gardens, wide tree-lined streets, a number of good museums and galleries, and enough shops, restaurants and bars to keep everybody entertained. The main attraction of the city is Mount Moiwa and the mountain's ski slopes, which caters to all ski-enthusiasts with its 11 different courses right on the city's doorstep. Sapporo is a great holiday destination for families who are keen to enjoy a skiing holiday in Japan. For some insight into the fascinating Ainu culture and the region's history visit the outdoor museum in the Hokkaido Nopporo Forest Park, and the Hokkaido Ainu Centre a little way out of the city. For aprés ski relaxation and pampering take an excursion to the famous hot springs of Noboribetsu.

Snow scenery [Lake Utonai] Mid February Tomakomai Hokkaido Japan ウトナイ湖 2月中旬 雪景色
It is a state of Lake Utonai around the middle of February.
It is in Tomakomai of Hokkaido.
Although it seems that birds can be seen in the morning and evening, I could not see too much of the birds at such a bright time yet.
It's still frozen and it's cold, but if you get a little warmer you will see a swan nearby so I think I will go regularly.

北海道の苫小牧にあります。
朝夕になると鳥も見ることができるようですが、まだ明るいこのような時間ではあまり鳥の姿も見ることはできませんでした。
まだ一面凍っていて、寒い時期ですがもう少し暖かくなれば白鳥が近くに見えるので定期的に行ってみようと思います。

【Travel Tomakomai Hokkaido Japan】Lake Utonai Wildlife Conservation Center ウトナイ湖野生鳥獣保護センター
I went to Lake Utonai wild wildlife conservation center.
It is a fun place to visit when you want to deepen your knowledge about nature, because you are introducing ecosystems such as birds that can be seen around Lake Utonai and you can study geology and so on.
There are also large telescopes that can be used for free in the facility, so you can see the wild birds on the other side.
When I went this time, I was able to see the bluefin which was on the other side.
There is a rest space etc. where there is a chair, so please try it by all means.
ウトナイ湖野生鳥獣保護センターへ、行ってきました。
ウトナイ湖周辺で見ることのできる鳥などの生態系の紹介をしていたり、地質などの勉強もできますので、自然に関する知識をより深めたい時に訪れてみるととても楽しい場所です。
施設内には、無料で利用することのできる大きな望遠鏡もあるので、対岸にいる野生の鳥たちを見ることができます。
今回私が行った時には、対岸にいたアオサギを見ることができました。
椅子がある休憩スペースなどありますので、是非寄ってみてください。

Tim: Integrated resorts in Japan: when can we start gambling? Don't forget to hit like, subscribe, and share. Hi, everyone. Welcome back to Brand 2020, today is March 19th 2019. Integrated Resorts, the legislation passed, we're going through implementation of how that will be selected, who it's going to be selected, what cities, what regions will get the bid for that. I'm joined today by Michael Penn, the foremost authority on legislation and the casino gambling law here in Tokyo, Michael!
Michael: Foremost authority? Let's put it this way, I may be the journalist who's most eagerly working on this for AGB Nippon on a daily basis.
Tim: Okay. Well, you're feeding a lot of the information that comes out: it's balanced, it's well thought-out, everybody's reading what you publish.
Michael: I hope so, and I hope that soon we have more than everybody, because we're trying to expand our readership for those who are interested in the development of this industry, which is still in the launch phase as we're talking.
Tim: Sure. Well, a lot of people, you know, know about it but it's rather complicated and there's a long draw line, isn't there?
Michael: Well, it doesn't exist yet. I mean, the legislation was passed in July 30th of last year and you know the starting gun really hasn't even been shot yet. And, of course, until the very day when the first ones of these facilities open their doors, and the crowds walk in and look around at what there is, until that day you know it's all going to be kind of theoretical in most people's minds.
Tim: Right, but there's a lot of excitement before that. I mean, we haven't selected even the sights, the winners of the bids haven't... I mean, they're lined up, right?
Michael: Certainly in terms of the business community, and that circle of those who think they might get contracts and those who are likely to get contracts, there is a lot of interest. A lot of companies are setting up sort of their IR divisions within their companies and their teams all in eagerness to get those contracts, but again we're still at a very early stage. And, as you say, we don't know where these facilities are gonna be and we don't know who the consortiums gonna be run by them are gonna be yet, but that's what we're doing now. Now, we're figuring out where and who.
Tim: Okay, before we get into that, Michael, let's just talk about the scope of what is involved in the Integrated Resorts. So, apparently about 7% (3%*) of the complex will be devoted to gambling and the rest of it is restaurants, hotels, shows, that sort of thing. What kind of things are going through the minds of the bidders now? They must have, you know, plans; they've got to have a strategy; they have to have maybe an office here, I've got to imagine they have an office here, and maybe staff it with 10, 15, 20 people and hire some consultants. This is a big deal, just getting into the game, right?
Michael: Well, according to the law, the limit for the casino floor facility is not 7%, it's 3%! So, that means that 97% is going to be things which are not casino. And, you're absolutely right that a lot of the big companies, the big operators, are have been opening up offices, you know, they're announcing it even now. Recently, there's new big companies saying, you know, our new office in Marunouchi is being opened, our new office in Hokkaido is being opened. In total, there's something like around 18 different companies who are bidding for these three spots.
Tim: What are the three spots?
Michael: The three spots haven't been decided yet, but the legislation says that there's an absolute limit of only three licenses which will be given, at least for the initial 7 years. Now, it could be expanded [...].

It is Road Station Utonai Lake（Michinoeki Utonaiko） in Tomakomai City, Hokkaido.
We went on March 31
A few days ago, I went to see it because a splendid observation deck was completed.
The observation deck is three stories high.
You can go up by elevator and stairs.
There are binoculars in the space on the second floor, so it's perfect for bird watching when birds are coming.
When I went this time, I could not see much because there were few birds, but I could see because there were a few swans in the distance.
You can also see the view from the outside part of the second floor part.
The third floor is outside and you can enjoy the spacious outside views.
Of course you can see Lake Utonai beautifully, you can also see Mt.
As we can fly airplane every 15 minutes, we can see airplane of various models.
As you can see the scenery that has never been seen before, take a leisurely walk to see the beautiful scenery of nature even when taking a break.

数日前に、立派な展望台が完成したので見に行ってきました。
展望台は3階建てになっています。
エレベーターと階段で上がることができます。
2階部分のスペースには、双眼鏡が設置されていますので、鳥が来ている時にはバードウォッチングに最適です。
今回行った時は、鳥がほとんどいませんでしたのであまり見ることができませんでしたが、白鳥が遠くの方に数匹いましたので見ることができました。
2階部分の、外の部分からも景色を見ることができます。
3階は、外になっていて広々とした外の景色を堪能することができます。
ウトナイ湖がきれいに見えるのはもちろん、樽前山も綺麗に見ることができます。
15分ぐらいおきに飛行機も飛んできますので、いろんな機種の飛行機も見ることができます。
今までにない景色を見ることができますので、休憩の時にでも寄って自然の綺麗な風景を見てゆっくり過ごしてみてください。

苫小牧西港の東埠頭、北埠頭、方面に釣りに行く時には良く使う道路です。
フェリーターミナルへ行くときもこの道を使うと便利です。
ちょうど高架になっていて町が見渡せて景色も良いです！
右手にある山は、樽前山です。
