In 1925, he constructs one of the first industrial tomato canning factories in the Balkans at the beach of Monolithos along with D. Manoudakis and K. Nomikos. The logo that still exists on the facade of the building is the name of the owner and the date 1922 encased in the characteristic rhomboid shape. . In 1945, George Nomikos, son of Dimitros, builds a new factory in Vlychada continuing his father's legacy and it remains in the Nomikos family until today.

SOSTIS PREKAS TOMATO FACTORY VLYCHADA
The Sostis Prekas tomato factory in Vlychada was created during the second world war on the southern coast of the island of Santorini. Its location was ideal due to the proximity to the nearby farm lands of the villages of Emporeio and Pyrgos. The easy access to water from Vlychada was another significant advantage both for industrial processing as well as the transportation of the canned products. It is currently owned by the Union of Santorini Cooperatives (Santo).

MUSIC GROUP BALLOS
Giannis Zevgolis and the music group Ballos are coming on Saturday 4th of August to the Santorini Arts Factory, for a concert that will take us on a journey. The music group Ballos appeared on the Greek music scene in early 2002. Their repertory includes the music of the Aegean islands, and the coasts of Asia Minor. The characteristic that defines the “sound” of the group is their choice of instruments, their repertory, as well as the use of old playing techniques, which give the music a new dimension. The instruments they use are the violin, the zither, and the lute: an organic group of instruments that is quite popular and still in use in the Aegean. Each of the members has traversed their own journey in the area of traditional and contemporary composition, actively participating in the Greek and international musical scene as composers and performers. The influences of the group are diverse (traditional, byzantine, western music) and define the final product of the group, giving them a very unique sound. Since 2002, the group has performed a large number of concerts in Greece and Abroad, as well as recordings on the radio and the television.
The Band:
Violin: Giannis Zevgolis
Zither: Ourania Labropoulou
Lute: Kostas Sideris
Visiting vocalist: Dionisia Papouli
Giannis Zevgolis
Born in Athens, his parents were from Aperanthos in Naxos, one of the defining factors in his choices in music. He started learning the violin at the age of 13, primarily playing Cycladic music, playing and learning with traditional musicians. He quickly evolved and was characterized by the way he expresses himself while playing, and the old-fashioned style of playing that sets him apart. He made three CDs with melodies and songs from Aperanthos in Naxos, and the “Anefala Thalassina” (Lyre) with Eirini Konitopoulou Legaki and Dimitris Firogenis. He has collaborated with many musicians and composers on discography, theatrical plays, and concerts, in Greece and abroad. In 1992 he completed his diploma on Classical Violin, from the National Conservatory of Athens. Today he teaches Classical Violin and Traditional Music at the NCA.
Ourania Labropoulou
Born in Athens, she studied theory with M. Adamis, Byzantine music with S. Pavlakis at the NCA, and piano with Nelli Semitekolo at the Municipal Conservatory of Kalamata. Since 2001 she studies at the Department of Musical Studies of the University of Athens. She has taken zither classes from Tasos Diakogiorgis, a master zither player. She has participated in concerts and recording of traditional and contemporary music in Greece and abroad (Domna Samiou, Chronis Aidonis, Christos Zotos, Ch. Sikkis, Mikis Theodorakis, ERT Modern Music Orchestra, Christos Leontis, Orchestra of the NCA, Christodoulos Chalaris, etc.)
Since 2004, she has been teaching zither at the T.E.I of Epirus, at the Department of Traditional and Folklore Music
Konstantinos Sideris
Born in Athens, his family comes from Koronos in Naxos. He studied Byzantine Music with Lykourgos Aggelopoulos, and was a member of the “Association for the Promotion of our National Music” with Simonas Karas, for four years. He is now teaching Istanbul Lute, drums, and lute at the Musical School of Pallini, and performs research into recording folklore and traditional songs, dances, customs, all around Greece. He was a member of the Greek Byzantine Choir, conducted by Lykoyrgos Aggelopoulos, for seven years. He has participated in many concerts in Greece and abroad, with various musicians and composers.
Born in Athens, Dionisia Pappouli has family roots in Kos. She is a graduate of the Department of Musical Studies at the University of Athens, and she holds a degree in Fugue, Counterpoint, and Harmony. She has studied the piano and the flute, while she also teaches Theory of European Music. She is the head of the Traditional Choir, and has been managing traditional music groups in various music school since 2009. Her interest in traditional music started empirically, and was later sealed with her studies in Byzantine Music at the Department of Traditional and Folklore Music at the Technical University of Arta. Welcome to Taverna Dimitris Vlychada Santorini
Holiday and Travel Destination Santorini, Greek Island and the Villa Michalis
Santorini is one of the Cyclades islands in the Aegean Sea. It was devastated by a volcanic eruption in the 16th century BC, forever shaping its rugged landscape. The whitewashed, cubiform houses of its 2 principal towns, Fira and Oia, cling to cliffs above an underwater caldera (crater). They overlook the sea, small islands to the west and beaches made up of black, red and white lava pebbles.
Two weeks holiday in Santorini, staying at Villa Michalis in Vilchada. Visited the beaches nearby and the capital Fira. Hired a car to visit Oia.
Vlychada is an easily accessible beach by car or bus, located on the south coast of Santorini, 13 kilometers from Fira. It stands out for the overwhelming carved cliffs that resemble a sculptor’s work but is, in fact, a natural process owed to the volcano, the wind and the sea. It is a lengthy beach with relatively shallow waters and dark volcanic sand and pebbles, like most beaches in Santorini. Not that crowded but organized with multiple sunbeds, straw umbrellas and a canteen, you can spend many relaxing hours here and cherish the spectacular sight all around. Merely this natural wonder makes it worthwhile.
The Sailing and Yachting Center is also found in Vlychada, in the small charming port close to the beach. Small yachts and boats anchor in the marina there and you can enjoy a meal including fresh fish in the local, traditional taverns. Additionally, you can visit the Tomato Industrial Museum, a former tomato factory, and enjoy a guided tour concerning the traditional methods of cultivation and production of the tomato, a well-known product of Santorini.
Vlychada Beach is worthy for the without parallel lunar landscape that enchants all visitors and is unique among the beaches in Santorini. It is, in fact, the most atmospheric beach you can find in the whole island.
Villa Michalis
Offering a seasonal outdoor pool and views of the mountains, Villa Michalis is located in Vlychada in the Santoríni Region, 15 km from Oía. Guests can enjoy the on-site restaurant. Free WiFi is offered throughout the property and free private parking is available on site.
Every room includes a flat-screen TV with satellite channels. A terrace or balcony are featured in certain rooms. Every room is fitted with a private bathroom fitted with a shower. For your comfort, you will find free toiletries and a hair dryer.
You will find ticket service at the property.
Bike hire and car hire are available at this hotel and the area is popular for horse riding and snorkeling. Fira is 9 km from Villa Michalis, while Kamari is 5 km away. The nearest airport is Thira Airport, 8 km from Villa Michalis.
Fira is the capital of Santorini, a Greek island in the Aegean Sea. The Museum of Prehistoric Thira displays items from the destroyed Bronze Age settlement of Akrotiri, including wall paintings and ceramics. Nearby, the whitewashed Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral has frescoes by local artist Christoforos Asimis. Fira’s clifftop location affords views of Nea Kameni, a still-active volcanic island to the west.
Oia is a coastal town on the northwestern tip of Santorini, a Greek Aegean island. The town has whitewashed houses carved into the rugged clifftops, and overlooks a vast caldera filled with water. In a 19th-century mansion, the Naval Maritime Museum has exhibits on local seafaring history, including old figureheads, sailors’ chests and models of old ships. Nearby is the ruined Oia Castle, known for its sunset views.

GREECE, EXPLORING the island of SANTORINI and its spectacular BEACHES ????️
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's go for a tour around the very beautiful Greek island of Santorini and let's walk along its spectacular and extremely popular beaches, during the summer at least. Vic Stefanu, vstefanu@yahoo.com. Santorini (Greek: Σαντορίνη) or Thera (English pronunciation and officially Thira (Greek: Θήρα), is an island in the southern Aegean Sea, about 200 km (120 mi) southeast of Greece's mainland.
Greece is a country in southeastern Europe with thousands of islands throughout the Aegean and Ionian seas. Influential in ancient times, it's often called the cradle of Western civilization. Athens, its capital, retains landmarks including the 5th-century B.C. Acropolis citadel with the Parthenon temple. Greece is also known for its beaches, from the black sands of Santorini to the party resorts of Mykonos.
