Interesting to learn about Akbar's legacy - Terry
Background:
Akbar The Great [1542-1605], was one of the greatest rulers in Indian history. He was born when Humayun and his first wife, Hamida Bano, were fugitives escaping towards Iran. It was during these wanderings that Akbar was born in Umerkot, Sindh, on November 23, 1542. Legend has it that Humayun prophesied a bright future for his son, and thus accordingly, named him Akbar.
Akbar was a great patron of architecture, art, and literature. His court was rich in culture as well as wealth. In fact, his court was so splendid that the British monarch, Queen Elizabeth I, once even sent out her ambassador, Sir Thomas Roe, to meet the king! Many of Akbar's buildings still survive, including the Red Fort at Agra, and the city of Fatehpur Sikri, near Agra, which has a 10-km long wall encircling it.
The Tomb of Akbar the Great is an important Mughal architectural masterpiece, built 1605-1613, set in 48 Ha (119 acres) of grounds in Sikandra, a suburb of Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India.
The third Mughal Emperor Akbar the Great (1542 -- 1605), himself commenced its construction in around 1600, according to Tartary tradition to commence the construction of one's tomb during one's lifetime. Akbar himself planned his own tomb and selected a suitable site for it, after his death, Akbar's son Jahangir completed the construction in 1605-1613.
Agra's Tomb of Akbar the Great, Uttar Pradesh
Sikandra is the mausoleum of Akbar. Akbar himself started construction of this beautiful monument. This structure has a perfect blending of Hindu, Christian, Islamic, Buddhist, Jain themes. Sikandra is named after Sikandar lodi, the Delhi ruler who was in power from 1488 to 1517. Sikandra Fort is located in the western periphery of the city at a distance of about 10 kms from the city center. Sikandra the last resting place of the Mughal emperor Akbar. Akbar was the greatest of the Mughal emperors and one of the most secular minded royalties of his time. He was the heir to a long tradition of oriental refinement, a great patron of the arts, literature, philosophy and science. A visit to Akbar's monument opens before one, the completeness of Akbar's personality as completely as the Taj Mahal does of Mumtaz Mahal's . Akbar himself planned his own tomb and selected a suitable site for it. To construct a tomb in one's lifetime was a Tartary custom, which the Mughals followed religiously. Akbar's son Jahangir completed the construction of this pyramidal tomb in 1613.
Although there is only one entrance in use today there exist four red sandstone gates which lead to the mausoleum complex. The decoration on the gateways is strikingly bold, with large mosaic patterns set into it. The gateway's four minarets rising from the corners are particularly striking. Built of red sandstone, the minarets are inlaid with white marble polygonal patterns; the pleasing Proportions & Profuse surface ornamentation makes the gateways very impressive. These gateways reflect a curious hybrid of different styles of architecture-Hindu, Muslim Christian and a patent mixture of Akbar's typical style. A broad paved causeway lead to the tomb, which has five storeys and is in the shape of a truncated pyramid. The main tomb has a unique square design which is unparalleled by all other Mughal buildings.Geometrical designs achieved by the mosaics of glazed tiles or of colored stones, predominate the tomb. The mosaic work is generally in the tass eleated style, that is, square or rectangular pieces of colored stones were assembled and arranged together to form patterns. Emperor Jahangir inlaid semi-precious stones into a hollowed depression in the white marble slab later on. Akbar's daughters Shakrul Nisha Begum and Aram Bano are also entombed on this floor.
Some of its design features are similar to the design of the Taj Mahal built later in Agra.
The most striking feature of the place is definitely the splendid gateway with its four minarets that have been intricately carved. The striking inlay of white marble on the red sandstone is also grand. Another notable feature here is the portico in front of the grave in the basement. It is covered with beautiful stucco paintings.

Hi …Dear….Friends…. Emperor Akbar's Tomb is located in Sikandra area of Agra. There are thousands of native and foreign tourists visiting here every day. The tomb was built by Emperor Akbar himself. This tomb is considered the best example of Islamic, Buddhist, Jain, Christian and Hindu art because it is a mixture of Islamic, Buddhist, Jain, Christian and Hindu art in the tomb. Even before this Tomb was completed, King Akbar died, but later this Tomb was completed by Jahangir, son of Emperor Akbar. Near King Tomb of Emperor Akbar is the tomb of Lodi, which is not at all in good shape. The tomb of Emperor Akbar today is named Sikandra which was settled by Sikandar Lodhi in 1504-5. That is why the name of this region was named Sikandra after Sikandar Lodi. Gardens surrounded by Emperor Akbar's tomb have been built but there are some forests behind the tomb. There is a lot of monkeys in this tomb which sometimes attacks tourists. In addition to monkeys, peacocks, rabbits and deer will also be seen in this tomb. Inside this mausoleum, you can not take anything besides drinking water bottles. The current ticket price for this Tomb is 25 rupees for Indians, which is an increase of 5 rupees per year and 350 rupees for foreigners. 500 meters from the tomb of Akbar's Emperor, is the tomb of Mariam uz zamani, who was the mother of Rajshahi Akbar and Jahangir, whose real name was Harka Bai or Jodhabai, the daughter of Raja Bharmal or Biharimal of Amer (modern Jaipur, Rajasthan). .
Who was Akbar ...?
According to Indian historians, Akbar is considered to be the greatest Mughal ruler in all Mughal rulers whose full name is Jalal ud Din Mohammed Akbar. Emperor Akbar's reign is considered between 1556 and 1605 AD. Emperor Akbar was a lending ruler from a religious perspective.
Who was Mariam uz Zamani and Jodha Bai ..?
There were four Hindu wifes of Mughal Emperor Akbar. Amer Princess, Princess of Jaisalmer, Princess of Jodhpur and Princess of Bikaner. In which Aamer's princess Harka Bai was the chief and her daughter is known as Mariam uz Jamani. Haraka's father's name was Raja Bharmal or Biharimal who was the king of Amer (modern Jaipur, Rajasthan). Jodha Bai was the princess of Jodhpur, whose father's name was King Maldev, who was the king of Jodhpur. No mausoleum was built after Jodha Bai's death, but some people consider the tomb of Aamer's princess Harka bai aka Mariam uz Jamani as the tomb of Jodhabai, which is absolutely wrong because people only understand rumors as history. The information of the history of Emperor Akbar is found in Akbarnama which clearly describes all his wives. The marriage of Emperor Akbar and Amer's princess Haraka Bai was done in 1562 AD. Emperor Akbar's other wifes did not have any son, due to the blessing of his emperor Akshar Sufi saint, Sheikh Salim went to Chisti and in 1569 AD, Aamer's princess Harka Bai gave birth to a son named 'Salim'. Known as Jahangir On the occasion of the birth of Salim, Emperor Akbar gave the title of Mariam Uz Jamani to Haraka Bai. Mariam Uz Jamani means Pity for the world. The mausoleum of Harka Bai alias Mariam uz Jamani was built by Mughal Emperor Jahangir. This mausoleum is located on the edge of National Highway No. 2 in Sikandra area of Agra. The present ticket price for this Tomb is 25 rupees for Indians, which is an increase of Rs 5 per year. Very beautiful gardens have been built around this tomb.

As Viceroy of India, George Curzon directed extensive repairs and restoration of Akbar's mausoleum, which were completed in 1905. Curzon discussed restoration of the mausoleum and other historical buildings in Agra in connection with the passage of the Ancient Monuments Preservation Act in 1904, when he described the project as an offering of reverence to the past and a gift of recovered beauty to the future. This preservation project may have discouraged veneration of the mausoleum by pilgrims and people living nearby.
