Maimonides Tomb in Tiberias
Maimonides was a 12th-century Jewish legal expert, scholar, philosopher and doctor and one of the greatest minds ever produced by the Jewish people. Legend has it that when Maimonides’ body was brought to Tiberias for burial from his home in Egypt, the camel carrying his remains stopped next to the grave of Rabbi Yohanan Ben Zakkai. And that is where he was laid to rest.
I visited the Tomb on June 2nd, 2016 toward dusk. It was well over a 100 degrees that day in Tiberias--which made walking and traveling somewhat limited. You will find the Tomb very similar to the Western Wall, where men and women are separated to pray.

All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, glide over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and see the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

We visit the graves of holy Jewish rabbis R Yonatan ben Uzziel in Amuka and R Shimon bar Yohai in Meron, who both lived in the times of the Roman occupation Judea during the 2nd century
We also take a dip in the mikvah (ritual bath) and visit the grave of the AriZal in Tzfat, who lived in that area in the mid 1500s.
R Shimon was the author of the Zohar, the seminal book of Kabbalah, the mystical/esoteric secrets of the Torah.
R Yonatan ben Uzziel was one of the sages of the Talmud. It is said that he never married, to people come to his grave to beseech G-d to find their intended.
The AriZal aka R Isaac Luria is considered the father of contemporary Kabbalah.
