Mystery of Seven Sisters -Satian Jo Asthaan Sukkur Sindh Pakistan 2018
Sukkur is a city that carries a bundle of myths and mysteries. One can find historical monuments and buildings at every corner of the city.
Since the past few weeks, I was very anxious to write about the mystery surrounding the “Tomb of Seven Sisters”, located in Sukkur close to Rohri. This spot is not too big but the Indus River flowing nearby has added to its beauty and calm. One can see blind dolphins playfully swimming in the Indus; the scenery gets more mesmerizing at the point from where we can look onto the Lansdowne Bridge in the background.
There is no doubt about the fact that this place is a popular point of interest and landmark in Sukkur city. Twice, I have been to this place and have always found tourists and local citizens of the city who are believers of the place come here and make some prayers for their needs.
This place is not a high profile or well decorated building like that of other saints of Sindh. Rather, it’s like a cave like hall, dug out of mound and more importantly, it remains crowded with women all day. Women come here for prayers mainly from Sukkur, Jacobabad and Karachi. They arrive here to seek the blessings of the saintly ‘seven sisters’, in the hope that their problems will be solved. This is Satian Jo Asthaan (the home of seven virgins). During my research, learnt about several versions of the story of the seven sisters’ death. As one of these versions goes, the sisters resided here in the cave and during their stay didn’t meet with any man except for Raja Dahir, the Hindu ruler at that time (663 AD – 711 AD), who came to know about their beauty and ordered for them to be brought in front of him. When the sisters heard this news they became very scared and started to pray. Suddenly, during their prayer, the earth opened up and they disappeared in it.

Adam Shah Kalhore ji Takri
Shah Ji Takri (The Hill of Adam Shah) Sukkur is well known for the tomb of Mian Adam Shah Kalhoro. The tomb was built by Mian Ghulam Shah Kalhoro, the ruler of Sindh in 1768 AD.
Mian Adam Shah Kalhoro, the ninth descendant of Chenai, was born in a small village. He rose to prominence through the patronage of Wadera Khabar Abro of Dabah village. The small village of his birth became a centre of Islamic spiritual learning.
Mirza Abdul Rahim Khan-e-Khánán, a Nawab (a princely ruler), visited Adam Shah Kalhora to ask for his blessing, pay his respects and offer him the zamindar or parguna (an area of land) of Chándúkah, as a jagir (a feudal life estate), for support in a military campaign. Later, his blessings was accepted and Khan-e-Khánán came back victorious from the Battle. Adam Shah Kalhora later went to Multan to Makhdoom Lal Esan Qureshi, a celebrated living saint of the time and a descendant of Sheikh Baháuddín Zakariya Multani. These events had the effect of consolidating Adam Shah Kalhora's influence in north-west Sindh.
However, his travels through the lands of the local rulers and the presence of his large entourage caused discord and Adam Shah Kalhora was killed becoming a martyr among the Kalhora people. Adam Shah Kalhora has followers in a number of tribes including: the Abro, Bhatti, Jokhiyo, Junejo, Sial, Sahta, Rajputs, Kalwar, Jatoi, Khosa, Chandio, Leghari and, Talpurs.

Rohri, also known as Sateen Jo Aastan is the resting place for the Seven Female-friends. According to folklore these female friends resided here. These unmarried female-friends veiled themselves from all males, a practice called purdah (the practice of preventing men from seeing women). But for the fear of a tyrannical raja resulted in their disappearance, possibly in a cave in the side of a hill. Thus they became satti. It is probable that this folklore has its origins in the Hindu ritual of sati, an inhumane ritual where widows burnt themselves or were burnt on their dead husband's pyre.Like to Appreciate our Efforts...

Chaar Tukar (Neenh) Jabal, Arore
Chaar Tukar Jabal (Four pieces hill) is so called for its formation. It is located in Arore, (Rohri) District Sukkur of Sindh (Pakistan). It is presumed to be formed by centuries of wind erosion or it may be river Indus that changed its course.
Sadhu Bela Hindu Temple - Sukkur, Sind, Pakistan
The Hindu Mandir Sadhu Bela or Sadh Belo is situated on an island in Sukkur. You got to use boat to reach there.Photography of Sadhu Udaas room and other temples like Hanuman Temple are prohibited. We were allowed to shoot around the temple only.
We visited on 14th February 2017, it was almost empty, only we and KTN television team were there.
You need to get permission from Oqaf to visit this temple. The oqaf office is situated in Sukkur city. The entry fee is Rs. 30/= each.
