20 Unopened Ancient Egyptian Coffins Discovered & the Search for Nefertiti | Ancient Architects
SUBSCRIBE NOW TO SPACE & PLANET:
Archaeologists have discovered more than 20 ancient wooden coffins near the Egyptian city of Luxor, with brightly coloured decorations still clearly visible.
According to the press statement, they were discovered as the ancient Egyptians left them, totally undisturbed and intact.
They were found at the Theban necropolis of Al-Assasif on the River Nile’s West Bank an the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities say it is one of the largest and most important discoveries in recent years.
Generally, nobles and high officials were buried at the site during pharaonic times and although officials are yet to disclose the period the coffins date from, it is likely they are from the late period.
This find comes less than a week after Egyptian authorities published details of another major discovery in Luxor. Archaeologists discovered an ancient industrial site that was once used to produce decorative items, funerary furniture and pottery for royal tombs.
Not many people know what is happening in Egypt right now, and although the headlines reach the western media, there is so much more activity underway and it is being lead by Dr Zahi Hawass.
He is currently searching for the tomb of Queen Nefertiti and the tomb of Queen Ankhesenamun, the wife of Tutankhamen and they are expecting to find them between the tombs of King Amenhotep III and King Ay.
The new Grand Egyptian Museum opens next year, which, aside from the Giza Pyramids and the Valley of the Kings, will be the main focal point for the tourists. In all honesty, Egypt needs a major new find now more than ever and although the finding of 20 unopened coffins and a workshop have hit the headlines in the western media, such finds won’t do a great deal for tourism. They need a new, huge royal find to drive tourism to the new museum and by the extent of the work currently underway, they may well just find it.

VALLEY OF THE NOBLES XII: T.T. 279 & T.T. 192:
PABASA'S Tomb,is a large tomb located in El Asasif, near of the entrance to Hatshepsut's temple at Deir el-Bahari. Like Ankh-hor, who held this important title after him, he was the 'Chief Steward of the God's Wife Nitocris during the reign of Saite king Psamtek I.Pabasa's tomb still has a large mudbrick superstructure. A steep flight of stairs leads down to the entrance of the subterranean levels and on the lintel above the doorway is a fine relief of a barque, adored by the souls of Pe and Nekhen, by the God's Wife, Nitocris and by the deceased.A small vestibule leads to a larger pillared sun court. The vestibule shows scenes of Pabasa's funeral procession, including mourners and the Abydos Pilgrimage. There is a long text of Pabasa and depictions of his son, Thahorpakhepesh, who acted as sem-priest at his father's funeral.
KHERUEF was a wealthy and powerful court official , son of an army scribe and a chanter in the temple of Amun . Shortly after the death of Amenhetep Ill , he rose to become a Prince , or high official , Overseer of the palace of the great royal wife Tiy , the Royal Scribe , and Seal-Bearer of the King in Upper Egypt .
The tomb is situated also in el Assasif , few hundred meters east of Deir el-Bahari. it has paintings considered among the finest examples of the New Kingdom relief .
At the entrance , we can find scenes and texts about the work of Kheruef in preparing for the Heb-Sed festival of Amen-Hotep III . It is well worth watching the beauty of the princesses giving offerings to Amen-Hotep III , as well as the acrobatic dancers and singers, these reliefs are beautifu.

The tomb of an Ancient Egyptian priest in the Deir el-Bahari Necropolis near the Egyptian city of Luxor, has undergone extensive restoration by the South Asasif Conservation Project.
Footage filmed on Tuesday shows the carefully reconstructed temple and tomb of Karakhamun along with several stone fragments with Hieroglyphs inscribed.
The tombs, as well as a temple, were built by high priest Karakhamun of the Ancient Egyptian god Amun. The complex was almost totally collapsed by the start of the 21st century, however after extensive restoration work by the South Asasif Conservation Project, it is now returning to its former glory.
We discovered more than 30,000 fragments and shattered decorations and made it our mission in life to rebuild the tomb of Karakhamun and put all these fragments back where they belong, Director of South Asasif Conservation Project Elena Pischikova said.
The South Asasif Conservation Project was founded in 2006 with the aim of restoring and reconstructing the three heavily damaged Kushite tombs belonging to high levels officials in the Ancient Egyptian city of Thebes.

Archaeologists discovered the coloured wooden coffins for men, women and children in Luxor in the south of the country. It is the first large human coffin cache ever discovered since the end of the 19th century, the Egyptian Antiquities Minister Khaled El-Enany said today. The intricately carved and painted coffins, said to be 3,000 years old, were closed with mummies inside and were in a good condition of preservation, colours and complete inscriptions, a statement read. The cache was found at the Al-Asasif cemetery, on the west bank of the River Nile. Mostafa Waziri, the excavation team leader, said the coffins were for male and female priests and children. He dated them back to the 10th century BC under the rule of the 22nd Pharaonic dynasty. The coffins will undergo restoration before being moved to a showroom at the Grand Egyptian Museum, due to open next year next to the Giza pyramids, the ministry said. The discovery is the latest in a series of major finds of ancient relics that Egypt hopes will revive its tourism sector, which has been badly hit by political instability since the 2011 uprising that toppled Hosni Mubarak. Earlier this month, Egypt unveiled two archaeological discoveries in Luxor including an industrial zone at the city's West Valley, also known as the Valley of the Monkeys. And in May, archaeologists discovered a double tomb dating back to the time of the Pharaohs at the Pyramids of Giza. The archaeological mission removed 450 cubic metres of sands to uncover the 4,500-year-old tombs amid the ancient cemetery containing well-preserved burial shafts. Beneath the sands near the pyramids on the outskirts of capital Cairo, a striking Old Kingdom burial site was revealed to contain the remains of a priest and a noble, along with a fine limestone statute.

ULLresearch: A tomb on a wadi
This video describes the background and results of a research project carried out in Egypt by the Archaeological Mission of the University of La Laguna (Tenerife, Canary Islands) for the study and restoration of the Theban tomb 209, in Luxor, the most important of the religious capitals in the country. The excavation campaigns we have conducted have presented a building with a chronology and a typology different from those with which we were familiar to date. The tomb can now be dated in the Twenty-fifth Dynasty. In the video, information is presented in the following order: project objectives, results, methodology, what we can learn from the project findings and perspectives for the future.
