Getting Buzzed off Buckfast: MUNCHIES Guide to Scotland (Episode 1)
In our opening episode, Charlet meets Glasgow locals who teach her all about age-old Scottish traditions. Think haggis, neeps and tatties, scurly, square sausage and dumplings made using your granny's knickers. She decides to ditch the white cloth pomp of Glasgow’s gourmet revolution to meet the infamous self-titled “Mad Chef”, aka Danny McLaren, who has developed a name for himself through brilliant and bizarre dishes like Irn-Bru-infused pulled pork sandwiches and Buckfast ice cream. Charlet ends up with a boozy bunch of Buckfast superfans, culminating with her burying her face in a 3000 calorie Munchy Box.

Edinburgh Seaside Gin Review
Edinburgh Seaside Review
My fifteenth gin to review is Edinburgh Seaside. It was served with indian tonic water and garnished with olive. After giving it a try I DO RECOMMEND this herbaceous gin, it starts off strong but swallows smooth. I also recommend YOU try and see what YOU think. Cheers!
More on this gin from the menu:
Edinburgh Seaside uses intriguing Scottish ingredients from the coast, like seaweed, ground ivy, gorse flowers and scurvy grass. Herbaceous gins are described as “more savory gins delivering unique favors with unusual botanicals.
My background:
I worked at the Thatched Cottage Hotel in Brockenhurst, England during the summer of 2019 and they have a gin bar with over 150 gins. I thought it would be a nice summer project to try as many as I could during my stay :-)

Gin .... just the tonic for a day at the spa
(2 Jan 2018) LEAD IN:
Need a rest after a hectic Christmas and New Year? Why not relax in a spa with a twist, a gin twist.
Along with all the usual trimmings, like scented oils, soothing music and a menu of treatments, Glasgow has found just the tonic to keep its customers in high spirits.
STORY-LINE
Treating your body like a temple and fancying a stiff martini don't usually mix, but it is the heady botanicals in gin which has prompted one spa owner to marry the two.
Gin Spa is a perfect cocktail, and it opened just in time for the Scotland's New Year celebrations.
According to its owner Gin Spa is one of a kind, the first to make gin with the flavours of of berries, nuts or citrus fruits into a body rub, as well as a gastronomic delight.
This spa relies on spirits distilled by craftsmen using locally sourced ingredients.
So nine of those botanicals are brought in. The rest of them are actually foraged on the island (Isle of Harris). So the distillation is much more complex too to what it used to be, according to the owner Paul Reynolds.
A YouGov poll commissioned by the Wine and Spirit Trade Association this year discovered that when it comes to naming their favourite tipple 29 percent of people chose gin.
So for the first time gin was promoted to first place, ahead of whisky and vodka.
The Association says UK drinkers bought over 47 million bottles of gin this year, a record breaking equivalent of 1.32 billion G&T's, in the last recorded 12 months.
This is up 7 million bottles compared to the same period a year ago.
Reynolds says its the versatility of gin, which is now infused with everything from raspberries to lemon and lime that makes its so appealing, especially to women.
The spirit once referred to as mother's ruin is now chic.
According to Reynolds: So Gin Spa is the first botanical and gin inspired day spa in the world and it's first into Glasgow. We are focusing on botanical inspired products for our treatments. We also have a complimentary gin bar that we give to our guests after their treatment, or if they are having a manicure they can have a martini and such like cocktail. And where we want to take this journey is the customer is experiencing gin from the minute they come in the door. So the cent of juniper and lime is what they experience as the door opens and we're taking five star products to make sure the customer has a great experience from start to finish.
Gin Spa's customers receive a typical spa pampering that includes luxury slippers and tea from a therapist.
With so much gin on hand, it's important for people to keep well hydrated throughout the treatment and enjoy the alocholic drinks responsibly.
Various gin houses provide gin on a month to month basis. The spa uses the chance to conduct market research on its largely female clientele.
The success of gin is thanks in part to the growing popularity of so-called 'craft spirits' made in boutique distilleries.
Reynolds says: The growth of the gin market, especially the craft gin market, has been massive. The gin market in the UK, seventy percent of gin made in the UK is actually made in Scotland, but we're moving more towards craft gins rather than the big production gins, that we have in the past. Gin spa has sort of taken the customer, looking at the female customer, who are very much the gin drinkers and thinking what else can we give them. And day spa and gin goes well hand in hand.
The spa keeps things simple with treatments like massages, facials, manicures and pedicures.
Before their tailor made cocktail arrives, each customer is given an inspirational thought to ponder while they're enjoying their treatment.
A nearby gin bar called Gin 71 Merchant City allows the spa's customers to continue the experience.

Our visit Edinburgh travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a food guide (best restaurants and street food), top museums and the city by day. We also cover off-the-beaten-path activities you won't find in a typical Edinburgh tourism brochure or Edinburgh, Scotland city tour.
20 Things to do in Edinburgh, Scotland Top Attractions Travel Guide Video Transcript:
Our week in Edinburgh was action packed! We sampled gin and Scotch whisky, wandered down tiny closes, braved the crowds along the Royal Mile, ate our fill of haggis, and even visited a castle, a palace, and an abbey. So, if you’re looking for things to do in Edinburgh on your visit, this video guide will show you all of those attractions and then some!
Edinburgh Castle is hard to miss as it dominates the city’s skyline. The first thing you should know about the Castle is that it’s not just one single building, so once you’re inside there’s quite a bit to see and do; you can tour the Royal Palace, see the Crown Jewels, watch the firing of the one o’clock gun, step inside St. Margaret’s Chapel, visit the National War Museum and so much more, so give yourself plenty of time.
We also made time to visit the famed Royal Mile, which is the busiest street in Edinburgh’s Old Town. There’s quite a bit to see along here, so we first popped into the Royal Mile Market, which is set inside a former church, and from there we continued down the street, visiting little souvenir shops along the way. You’ll have no trouble finding a kilt here!
Another activity we really enjoyed was taking a food tour with Eat Walk Edinburgh. We got to try a lot of delicious bites and beverages along the way, and one of the highlights was visiting the Fugde House.
Another fun way to explore Edinburgh on foot is by wandering down the tiny closes. These small alleys were often named after a memorable occupant, and the Old Town is full of them.
And that’s it for our visit to Edinburgh, Scotland. We hope you enjoyed following our travels and that this video gave you a few ideas of things to do, foods to try, and places to visit around the city. As always, if you have any other suggestions of things to do in Edinburgh, feel free to share those with fellow travellers in the comments section below. Until next time!
This is part of our Travel in Scotland video series showcasing Scottish food, Scottish culture and Scottish cuisine.

My 2nd book is finally out! It's called How To Make A Living By Working For Free and you can buy it here for £5 (digital) or £8 (paperback). Here's the synopsis of the book -
The book is a how-to guide for artists to create their own online community for their work and how that community can support the artist to become sustainable in every way.
The book takes a critical and in-depth look at the media's perception of free content vs the reality of what the general public see it as.
If you're an artist in the modern age who wants a sustainable audience you're no longer just an artist, you're a community leader.
If you'd like to read the first few chapters of the book you can find a PDF version of that here.
