Generations of storytellers passed down stories that were eventually collected into a book called Legends of Tono. An interesting small town with not much to see (in my opinion) though the stories are interesting.

산과 맞닿은 하늘과 구름이 함께 놀자고 말하는 거 같다. 이와테의 도노역에 도착했다. 역 주변인데도 조용하기만 하고 거리 장식이 동화 속에 온 듯 독특한 모양이다. 넓은 들판이라는 뜻의 도노는 옛 모습의 전원 풍경과 일본 전통가옥이 그대로 남아있다. 옛 모습 그대로를 보존하고 있는 전통가옥을 찾았다. 제일 먼저 마차가 눈에 띄는데 이곳은 예부터 산과 바다로 물건을 운반했던 말을 소중하게 여겨 왔다고 한다. ”우리 사람들이 항상 말을 돌보고 아프지 않은지 건강한지 잘 먹고 있는지 말을 살피면서 생활했기 때문에 말과 함께 생활하는 ‘난부마가리야’ 라는 곳으로 이런 식으로 (ㄴ자로) 굽은 모양입니다..” 이곳은 구전으로 전해지는 민화가 많이 있어 민화의 고장으로도 유명하다. 할머니는 이곳을 찾아오는 사람들에게 옛날 이야기를 해준다. “갓파는 송사리를 잡아다 주지 않게 되었다고 합니다 “ “끝났습니다” “이것은 갓파인형 옷입니다. 모처럼 갓파의 고장에 왔으니 체험하려고 입어봤습니다.” 민화 중에는 물에 사는 요괴, 갓파 이야기도 있다. 갓파는 강가에서 노는 아이들에게 심술을 부려 (아이들을) 물에 빠뜨리곤 했다곤 한다.

Mozart wrote Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute) for a suburban theatre in Vienna, the Theater auf der Wieden. He drew on the magical spectacle and earthy comedy of popular Viennese theatre. As well as being a comedy, The Magic Flute is an expression of Mozart’s profound spiritual beliefs: Enlightenment concerns with the search for wisdom and virtue are at the heart of this enchanting tale. The Magic Flute was an instant success with audiences and Mozart’s supposed rival Salieri described it as an ‘operone’ – a great opera.
David McVicar’s classic production embraces both the seriousness and comedy of Mozart’s work. The audience is transported to a fantastical world of dancing animals, flying machines and dazzlingly starry skies. The setting provides a wonderful backdrop for Mozart’s kaleidoscopic score, from the Queen of the Night’s coloratura fireworks to Tamino and Pamina’s lyrical love duets and Papageno’s hearty, folksong-like arias.

Having defeated Letty, the heroine continues her search for spring, traveling even further towards the southern parts of Gensokyo. Slowly approaching it's magical boundary, she soon becomes disoriented and lost. Persisting onward, she suddenly finds herself spirited away to the almost dreamlike village of Mayohiga, a place surrounded by blooming mother nature, void of any real signs of winter. Little is known about this mysterious location. They say that it is an abandoned estate in the mountain recesses, in which a lost traveler, upon taking and returning with some daily necessities, received good luck, so to speak. It is also the home of many hostile youkai - probably the only thing the heroine saw coming from a mile away. Oh, and is that a hostile cat over there, sitting in a tree? It couldn't be...
PERSONAL THOUGHTS:
ZUN composed this theme with the image of Tōno village, a city located in Iwate Prefecture, Japan, in mind. The melody sounds a bit nostalgic and attempts to make you imagine that there used to be plenty of similar old villages like Mayohiga in Japan... A highly folkish song. Well, probably just half-folkish, considering it's calm nature. But that is not it's main message... You wanna know it? Allow me to tell you!
Where is spring at? Come on, where is it?! GIMME!!! That's the message this theme is telling everybody. It is all there, no? You left the forests, accidentally stumbled upon a mysterious village filled to the brim with warmth... Yes! I can feel it in the air. We are getting somewhere! Ah, what a beautiful theme. Makes me wanna hike through the mountains. Well, maybe just hills. I am lazy. Anyway - talk about awesome music! It is only the second stage of the journey, and we are already being treated to such sweet epicness? It'll only get better from here on out! And it will, trust me. It will get so much more epic and catchy.

Japanese Tea Garden San Antonio Texas & Changing Domicile to Texas // I visited the Japanese Tea Garden in San Antonio Texas, also called a Chinese Tea Garden or Chines Garden and experience some beautiful zen gardens, Japanese waterfall, and the beautiful flowers and trees in the rest of the Japanese garden. If you visit Texas, the Japanese Tea Garden is one of the free things to do in Texas so make sure you stop by and visit and do a little meditation on the rock steps. I'm passing through from San Antonio to Houston to escape some winter weather and then domicile in Texas. I ended up in Houston as well for the RV inspection so I could get the RV registration in Texas.

Music Director of The Royal Opera Antonio Pappano explores the score of Puccini's Madama Butterfly with the help of soprano Ermonela Jaho. Find out more at
Giacomo Puccini was entranced by David Belasco’s play Madame Butterfly (based on a popular short story by John Luther Long) when he saw it in London in 1900. He harnessed the talents of librettists Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa (with whom Puccini had created La bohème and Tosca) to adapt Cio-Cio-San’s tragic tale for the operatic stage. Although the premiere at La Scala, Milan, in 1904 was poorly received, that same year Puccini revised and restaged the opera for performances in Brescia, to great acclaim. Madama Butterfly quickly became a hugely popular opera with performers and audiences alike, and remains one of Puccini’s most performed works.
Puccini drew on Japanese folk melodies for the score, one of his most evocative and atmospheric. In Act I, Cio-Cio-San expresses her radiant happiness in ‘Ancora un passo’, and the two lovers rapturously declare their love for each other in the passionate duet ‘Viene la sera’. In Act II the mood becomes increasingly strained, as in ‘Un bel dì vedremo’ when Cio-Cio-San longs for the ‘fine day’ when her husband will return to her. The romantic exoticism of 19th-century European images of Japan – an integral part of Madama Butterfly’s character – inspire Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier’s elegant production for The Royal Opera.
