Tonsina Point Trail in Seward, Alaska || Best Family Hikes in Alaska { ExploreFam 11}
One of the best family hikes in Seward, Alaska is Tonsina Point Trail. It's 3.5 miles roundtrip, and while it's definitely got some steep hills, our littles did great! You get beautiful views of Resurrection Bay, while crossing some little streams that will entertain your kids. This definitely ranks fairly high in our best family hikes in Alaska.
Tonsina Point Trailhead is located in the Caines State Recreation area, just above the beautiful Lowell Point Beach. There are opportunities to take this trail much further than Tonsina Point, but please read up on them and learn about avoiding the tide, as well as see if it is right for your family!

Tonsina Creek Trail
Tonsina Creek Trail is a 2 mile trail heading south along the Resurrection Bay hillside out to Tonsina Creek from Lowell Point. This trail head is also the same one you would take to do the Craigs Head destination, a WWII bunker and base area, which is a 4 mile slack tide walk. This is beautiful area and relatively easy walk. The video hike is about 3 miles as I loop around the part of the forest out at the Tonsina Creek side of the Trail. Beautiful Temperate Rain Forest.
Tonsina Point Hike - Seward, AK
The family and some friends went exploring after church in Seward,AK Sunday. After a short 2 mile hike out we arrived at a beautiful beach area at the mouth of a river feeding into Resurrection Bay. What an awesome site.
Lost Lake Trail, Seward Alaska
Just finished a 7.5 mile (one way) hike up the Lost Lake Trail near Seward Alaska in September 2011. Took 4.5 hours to make the one way trip (3.5 back down). Tried this same trail the year before in June and ran into snow half way up the trail. Fairly steep as you will climb 2,000 feet in the 7.5 miles. Also Rented an RV for the 2 week vacation. Stayed in Denali State and National Parks. Stayed in Eagle River Park outside of Anchorage too. Write me if you would like to know more about RVng and hiking, fishing Alaska. Thanks for viewing Al

Exit Glacier Hike 2019 | Exit Glacier Seward, AK | Hikes near Seward, AK
In this video we share our hike to Exit Glacier near Seward, AK. It is a 1.8 mile out and back hike and we felt it was suitable for all skill levels. We had 5 children 12 years old and younger with us and they all did great!
The hike was so fun and we loved looking for the year markers to see how far the glacier has receded over time. We cant wait to return to see what it looks like at that time.
There is a 269 foot elevation gain. We felt is was much colder up top and the wind and gusts were intense up there!

Entering Geographic Harbor, Alaska
Geographic Harbor is off Shelikof Strait, Alaska
Kenai Peninsula, Seward, AK
Seward, AK has one of the most perfect settings in which to have a harbour for both small and large boats. The beautiful blue glacier fed water hopefully will remain clear and uncontaminated for many years. From this port we took a six hour wildlife and glacier tour with a very knowledgeable field guide which will be uploaded soon.
Caines head trail Seward 2016
Box Canyon Creek, Seward, AK
Trip Kinney & Paul Schauer on the first known descent of Box Canyon Creek in Seward, Alaska on 9/21/13. The creek is on the Seward side of the Lost Lake Trail. Box Canyon Creek has an average gradient of 462 feet per mile with the crux section dropping 300 feet in half a mile with a maximum gradient (between two contours) of 714 feet per mile. The creek is fairly easy to access, just a short hour and a half hike up the Seward side of the Lost Lake Trail and a 30 minute bushwhack down to the creek from the trail. We had low flows (estimated to be less than 100 cfs), but are looking forward to getting in there with a little more water.

Alaska Hiking ~ Caines Head Coastal Trail ~ 1
The Caines Head Trail begins at Lowell State Park in Seward, Alaska. In this video the first 1 1/2 miles of the trail is shown. It covers the park area down to the Tosina river and where the coastal beach part of the trail begins. The river bridge is out and has been out since 2006 and the park ranger said it might be another few years before it gets fixed as they are doing minor repairs out on North & South Beach part of the trail.
Remember this hiking trail has to be hiked during low tide or it impassable because a trail does not exisit in the rocky wooded land. And if you hike out, expect to wait until the next low tide to return, so an overnight stay is recommended. Also plan it on a negative low tide to eliminate rock climbing on slippery wet rocks that you wont beable to go around unless you wade in the ocean water, but can during the negative low tides.
