OMG Kilimanjaro CSR Expedition
We have always described this project as one with two summits!
One which peaks at a challenging altitude of 5,895 AMSL, and another one which peaks at an AED 16200 fund, we each needed to raise.
Our CSR project’s aim was to help the Amani House For Street Children build a facility in the nearby town of Arusha, where rescued children could be relocated temporarily before joining the Amani House in Moshi.
This facility will serve as a place where children transition from malnutrition, abuse, the lack of education and homelessness, to a structured life and a safe place to heal, grow and learn. At a later stage, the children will be reunited with their extended families.
To help the foundation achieve this, we raised AED 491, 400 thousand dirhams as a team during our fund raising campaign, exceeding our initial target and allowing us to also support the PCRF in Gaza and Syria.
Thank you for all our supporters and for entrusting the OMG team with this mission!

Ever since traveling for me meant to be active. I was taking on new outdoor challenges every year from skiing in the Alps to rafting in South America, Biking trips in North America and several multi-day trekking adventures in places like Patagonia, Peru or Kyrgyzstan. This year I was ready for the next step: climbing one of the seven summits. When G Adventures asked me to become part of their Wanderers program I saw my chance to take on the highest mountain in Africa as one of their brand ambassadors….but little did I know how hard this endeavour would be….
Unlike other trips this one started actually 5 months before the first day of trekking…I worked on my fitness, changed my diet and did a lot of research on Mt. Kilimanjaro. I decided to take on the Lemosho route which is 56 kilometers long and takes altogether 8 days - my decision was based on 2 reasons: one was the fact that the itinerary of this route is the best for acclimatization of the body to the high altitude and the resulting high summit success rate (which is at 96% for G Adventures), the other reason is the beauty of the route which is often described as the most picturesque and spectacular of all popular routes.
Located in North East Tanzania Mount Kilimanjaro is with 5895m the highest mountain in Africa which makes it one of the seven summits. Apart from that it is also the highest free standing mountain in the world. Kilimanjaro is a dormant volcano with three three volcanic cones, Kibo, Mawenzi, and „Shira“. The highest point is located on Kibo - after the independence of Tanzania it was named Uhuru Peak in 1964 - which is Kiswhali and translates into „freedom Peak“.
--About my Cooperation with G Adventures--
For many years I was searching for a suitable partner who offers outdoor tours which align with my style of traveling as well as my values. After many meetings I’m glad I found this partner with G Adventures who offer many adventurous tour packages for travelers like me…but who also care about the environment and local communities in order to execute sustainable tourism. I forced this cooperation because I like the products and the philosophy of the company. Nevertheless all opinions, recommendations and views are my own.

Kilimanjaro GoPro Video (Africa, Tanzania, Kilimanjaro, Marangu Route )
A Hiking trip we will never forget!
A while ago, when we just started hiking together, we had a conversation about how flat our country is, and the idea of reaching the peak of a big, well known mountain. In the upfollowing months of good training in surrounding area's, our little fantasy became reality. We booked a trip to Tanzania, where we stayed in Moshi, a small village nearby the highest freestanding mountain on the world; Mount Kilimanjaro.
I took my GoPro with me and filmed the immense beauty of the Kilimanjaro, with this video as result.

DAY SEVEN || Amie Climbs Mount Kilimanjaro (2019)
.
We climbed to 5,895 metres or 19,341 feet. Wow!
.
Nobody told me how difficult the summit would be. Perhaps that's a good thing?
.
Halfway to the summit my legs felt they weighed 1 ton each, moving upwards in molasses as the arctic wind blew me backwards down the mountain.
.
Despite all the challenges... I am so glad I took on this epic quest, this amazing expedition.
.
Mount Kilimanjaro was stunning, humbling and life-changing.
.
Thank you for coming with me.

Machame - the most popular route on kilimanjaro | Zara Tours
Machame Route is one of the most popular routes on Mount Kilimanjaro.
According to statistics from Kilimanjaro National Park approximately 60% of Climbers / Hikers use the Machame Route to ascend Kilimanjaro up to Uhuru Peak. The route is very scenic, providing Climbers/hikers with incredible views and varying landscapes.
The Machame Route climb can be done in a minimum of six days (five nights) on the mountain. However, it is most often tackled over seven days (six nights), for a better altitude acclimatization schedule. The success rate is significantly higher when using the seven-day route.
The Climbing / Hiking begins at Machame Gate, located in the southern base of the mountain, which is just a short drive from our springlands hotel located in Moshi Kilimanjaro.
Machame route is relatively difficult as climbers need to be able to ascend the Barranco wall on day four and contend with a steep incline up Kibo on summit night. That being said, there are no parts on the route that require any technical climbing skills. The total Machame route distance is approximately 63 kilometers from gate to gate.
