As The Gambia's tourist season begins, hotel owners are still trying to 'cut down on losses' after the bankruptcy of British tour operator Thomas Cook on 23 September 2019. The British holidaymaker was one of the largest tourist outfitters in the small West African country, with 45% of tourists entering The Gambia through Thomas Cook according to The Gambia's government. The Gambia is a popular destination for sex tourism. Sex tourism attracts western tourists — primarily women — who are eager to have sex with younger men. Prostitution is illegal in The Gambia, but poverty often leads many young men and women to try and make a living as so-called bumsters. But how high is the price for a better life? The Taf Construction Company Ltd. was founded in 1990 in Banjul by the dynamic Gambian born building entrepreneur (Moustapha) Mustapha Njie often referred to as TAF.
He owns & runs The Gambia's leading home-grown and most thriving construction company who also lease, rent and sell properties at Brufut Gardens. The firm began its growth by erecting small scale housing units for private residencies.
Early success and unmatched business performance allowed the company to compete for contracts with foreign competitors. The facilities and services delivered within the complex includes street lighting, an independent water supply, an almost uninterrupted electricity, tarmac laid streets, once weekly rubbish collection and 24/7 security guards. 2008 saw the implementation of the 2nd phase of the housing scheme which should see the building of another 250 private residences for sale. Amenities include dining establishments, a shopping center and kiosks, children's playground, lawn tennis, a club with swimming pool and a major bank.
