BACKCOUNTRY at TOP OF THE WORLD Provincial Park
Top of the World Provincial Park is located near Skookumchuck, British Columbia and offers many different day hikes from Fish Lake.
I chose to camp out at Fish Lake for one night and make the hike up to Wildhorse Ridge. The entire journey consists of nearly 20km of marked and unmarked trails, and roughly 900m of elevation gain.
I've created this video with the intent to aid others with knowledge of the hike to Wildhorse Ridge and also to raise awareness of this beautiful provincial park in British Columbia, Canada.

From Wikipedia:
Skookumchuck Narrows forms the entrance of Sechelt Inlet on British Columbia's Sunshine Coast in Canada. Before broadening into Sechelt Inlet, all of its tidal flow together with that of Salmon Inlet and Narrows Inlet must pass through Sechelt Rapids. At peak flows, whitecaps and whirlpools form at the rapids even in calm weather. The narrows are also the site of a Skookumchuk Narrows Provincial Park.
Each day, tides force large amounts of seawater through the narrows—200 billion US gallons (760,000,000 m3) of water on a 3-metre (9.8 ft) tide. The difference in water levels on either side of the rapids can exceed 2 metres (6.6 ft) in height. Current speeds can exceed 16 knots (30 km/h), up to 17.68 knots (32.74 km/h). Although it is sometimes claimed to be the fastest tidal rapids in the world, Norway's Saltstraumen reaches speeds of 20 knots (37 km/h).
The tidal patterns keep the water moving at virtually all times in the narrows area, which attracts a plethora of interesting sea life.
Pemberton, Keyhole Hotsprings 2016
Without a doubt one of the best places I have visited in BC thus far. We're lucky we made it - had some Angels along the way, that's for sure - from the guy in the red truck, to the bag full of fire wood we stumbled upon, the weekend was full of ups and downs.
KeyHole Hotsprings is worth the drive, bumpy logging road and gnarly hike in, even with 70 pound packs, snowshoes and beers. My best friend, Danielle recruited me for this journey along with Breanne, Sabrina and Liane. We packed for a full on weekend of winter camping, however were rained on non stop until Sat afternoon. If it wasn't for good food, excellent company and a raging fire we would have been out of sorts.
The five of us, although soppy and another couple pounds heavier from our wet packs stayed Friday and Sat to soak up the magic of these amazing Hot Springs located just a couple hundred kms at the end of a logging road from Pemberton.
A must do! I would go back in the winter as the environment is like nothing else, raging Pebble Creek, waterfalls, hot springs and the most incredible snow pillow sculptures lining the boulders in the freezing glacier fed creek. It was the best of times; it was the worst of times nails it in every anaphoric, paradoxical sense.

Brooks Peninsula BC - Maule M7-260C
This flight originated from Courtenay Airpark and crossed the rugged interior of Vancouver Island. The Brooks Peninsula is a very remote and untouched part of Vancouver Island which is a large part of the draw. Fog was obscuring the top of the mountain range but it was clear for the most part on both sides. We landed on Drift Whale Beach and checked out the scenery before making our way to Nootka Island for the night.
This trip took place back in September 2015
Skookumchuck Narrows Flyover and Hike In
Have you heard of the Skookumchuck rapids and whirlpools? They’re pretty cool! Here’s a flyover and also a hike-in to the view point.
Access to the hiking trail and Skookumchuck Narrows Provincial Park is from Egmont BC. The rapids are a pretty big deal, so just follow the signs!
It’s a nice path that I call rolling flat (so mostly flat with slight ups and downs). It’s a 4 km hike in so about an hour and 15 minutes. There is picturesque Brown Lake along your way.
The Skookumchuck Narrows is the narrow opening between the open waters of the Georgia Strait and the large Sechelt Inlet. As the tide comes in and out from the Georgia Strait, water pours through this opening, creating the rapids. The difference in water levels can exceed two metres in height and the speed of the current can exceed 30km/hr.
Check out the links in the description for a tide table that outlines best viewing times for whirlpool and whitewater action.
Thanks for watching!

Sunshine Coast Trail (free cabin stay at Tin Hat Mountain Cabin )
Here is the completed video of the Tin Hat mountain cabin up in behind Powell River on the Sunshine Coast Trail. Remember, you can stay here for free! I am so impressed by what the people who build these places are doing. It sure is amazing the dedication these people have to bettering our beautiful area on the Sunshine Coast.
The Sunshine Coast of British Columbia is a largely undiscovered area on the west coast of Canada. It stretches from Gibsons in the South all the way North to Powell River and Lund on the upper Sunshine Coast. Lund is at the most northerly point of Highway 101.

Mount Elphinstone Hike, Sunshine Coast, B.C.
Full guide:
Mount Elphinstone is a tall peak on the southern Sunshine Coast. The trained eye can pick out this summit from several Sea to Sky and Squamish hikes, such as The Chief.
At an elevation of 1,232 m and 13 km in distance, the Elphinstone Summit Trail offers a good challenge. But the trail is well-maintained and easy enough to follow that we rate it as moderate in difficulty.

Keyhole Hot Springs | HD | Canada
Keyhole Hot Springs, in British Colombia, Canada, is one of the most scenic hot springs in the Pacific Northwest.
Depending on when you go, the trail might be covered in snow. However, so many people go to the hot springs that the trail is well packed and typically easy to walk on.
The hot springs are scenicly located along the river, with a series of three pools on the river bank's cliff.
The top two pools are actually much too hot to sit in. We all tried pouring cold water from the river into the pools, but we still couldn't manage to cool down the first or second pool, which are naturally heated from underneath.
The third pool is just the right temperature. It's worth going early to make sure you get a spot in the pool before the springs get too crowded.
GOFAR | Ghost Towns & Ice Caves Ep. 6
This was a ride I too with my friend Adam Baker after work one day. It was to a place called HB Mine. It is just outside Salmo B.C. Canada.
The HB mine was initially staked in 1907 and put into production in a limited manner in 1912. In 1927 the property was acquired by the Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company (Cominco). Exploration by Cominco in 1949-1950 lead to the discovery of three parallel, steeply dipping, ore zones extending for 900 metres in a north-south direction across the claims. In 1955 the HB Mine was put into production at 1,000 t/day. Ten years later in 1965 the adjacent Garnet Lead-Zinc Mine was put into production as part of Cominco's HB mining operation.
Between 1912 and 1978 the HB and Garnet mines produced a total of 6,656,101 tonnes of ore at an average grade of 4.1% Zinc, 0.8% Lead and 4.8 g/tonne Silver. (BC Geological Survey, Detail Production Report, MINFILE). Seventy percent of this production is estimated to have been mined from the HB Mine deposits.
The HB and Garnet mines closed in August 1978. As of December 31, 1978, the remaining measured and indicated reserves for the HB Mine were reported by Canadian Pacific Limited as approximately 36,287 tonnes grading 0.1 per cent lead and 4.1 per cent zinc.
Riding in I felt like I was in an episode of the Walking Dead. Very creepy. It was obviously a squatters haven and people coming to party.
Riding up Sheep Creek Road after we left the mine we road past an avalanche that had come down in the winter of 2013. It had covered Sheep Creek and over the past few years had cut a tunnel/cave through the slide. There was about 30' of debris over the creek and the slide has insulated the snow and ice and is still there after 2 years.
The GPS coords for HB Mine is N 49° 08.516 W 117° 12.060 if you are interested in checking it out. Just be careful. The buildings do not look safe to enter and beware the Walkers.
