History
The Topgolf technology was developed in Watford, England between1996 and 2001 by twin brothers Steve and Dave Jolliffe. The idea for Topgolf came from when the two brothers were practicing their swings on a driving range and began thinking of different ways they could improve their experience. The Jolliffe’s formed a company called World Golf Systems (WGS) and installed the technology in a driving range in Watford, England in 2001. WGS sold the range and licensed the technology to a UK development company, Baydrive. Baydrive developed two additional UK sites. [1]
The business that is today known as TopGolf emerged from Golf Entertainment International (GEI), the US licensee. This company was established in London in 2006 to create a compelling customer experience and to bring the technology and the experience to the United States. GEI was formed by Richard Grogan, David Main and Eric Wilkinson. GEI transformed the early Topgolf experience to also include food, drinks, music and new games. GEI developed its first sites in Alexandria, Virginia, Dallas, Texas and Chicago, Illinois. It then acquired both World Golf Systems and the UK licensee. GEI changed its name at that point to name of the game: TopGolf.[2]
Today, Topgolf serves millions of guests annually and has the world’s largest digital golf audience.
Richard Grogan was the Company’s Chairman and Chief Executive from its formation until 2012. David Main spearheaded its US development. Eric Wilkinson was the Company’s finance director. Other investors joined the Company as it developed these first sites — significantly among them was the Callaway Golf Company and the WestRiver Group. This allowed not only the US development but the consolidation of the varied operations as well. Thomas Dundon became a significant investor in 2011. By 2014, WestRiver Group was TopGolf’s lead investor. WestRiver was founded and is run by Erik Anderson, and Erik Anderson is currently the Chairman of Topgolf.
In 2016, TEG created three new divisions. Topgolf, the golf entertainment venues in the U.S. and U.K., Topgolf International, the division focused on Topgolf's international expansion, and Topgolf Media, the division focused on enhancing the Topgolf experience through advanced digital media, strategic partnerships and sponsorships. Additionally in 2016, Providence Equity Partners made a sizable minority investment in TEG.
On June 23, 2016, it was announced that Village Roadshow Theme Parks would open a venue next door to its popular theme park, Warner Bros. Movie World, in Oxenford, Queensland in Australia. This will be the first Topgolf venue outside the US and the UK. [3]
As the company expanded, Callaway Golf Company (NYSE: ELY) became an investor in 2006 and in 2011. Also in 2008, the company was incorporated as Topgolf International, Inc.
Pricing
Depending on the venue, guests are charged per hour or per game. The U.K. locations and venues in Alexandria and Wood Dale are the only venues that charge per game. Guests are required to have a membership which allows them to play. Information such as high scores are linked to this membership. Membership is a one-time $5 cost that includes free club rentals on every visit.

Quigley's, Naperville
Quigley's Irish Pub resides in the historic Jefferson Hill building, which was built in 1845, three years before the potato famine began in Ireland. The original hand hewn beams and stone foundation can be seen in the cottage room. The cottage room is the former billiard room of Naperville Mayor Kendall, whose family lived in the house in the early 1900's. You can also get a glimpse of the original back of the house if you look up behind the bar and through the glass ceiling. Produced by john greene Realtor.
Naperville Scrambling for 360 Event
Budget cuts across the state have been affecting local not-for-profit agencies and raising concern for organizations such as 360 Youth Services.
“Unfortunately the state has been unable to fulfill commitments that they made to supporting programs we provide, and with that gap we’ve got a pretty significant funding position that we need to fill and these volunteers came together to organize a fundraiser to help us ensure that our programs can continue,” said CEO of 360 Youth Services, Katy LeClair.
After learning about the impact the budget would make on counseling and the homeless youth residential programs, Naperville residents decided to take matters into their own hands, and throw a Scrambling for 360 Youth Services Topgolf Fundraiser event.
“Amanda and I both have a wonderful and dear friend who is very involved in 360 Youth Services and we knew of the current situation going on with the budget being frozen, so we just wanted to help bring awareness and help a really great charity out in a time of need to provide really important services to kids here in Naperville,” said Amanda Ogden and Oriana VanSomeren, Event Organizers of Scrambling for 360.
Community leaders and families joined together for a day of golf, food and good company. 100% of the proceeds from this event will go directly toward funding for 360’s programs.

Tears ran down the faces of some community members, as hard, but meaningful conversations were held at the municipal center for District 203’s conversation about race and implicit bias.
The morning session of the Focus 203 event drew a crowd of about 100 to the round table discussions, which touched on topics like experiencing racism in Naperville, and speaking about it with their families.
Marala Baker, a resident of Naperville, said she attended Focus 203 because she wanted to share a racist incident her son went through and see the reaction of district officials.
“My son was sent a picture of a letter of a noose, he was sent pictures told to die, he was told to kill himself, called the n word over, and over again,” said Baker.
Baker, says her family is currently seeking a counselor for her son.
Another Naperville resident said sharing stories with one another can help with the burden people of color go through.
“It’s imperative that I have conversations with my children, [and] my wife,” said Cy Fields “For survival purposes, for resilience, so when they face racism, bigotry, and all of these kinds of things, they’ll know how to properly respond and not internalize it, like this mother so bravely expressed.”
Though the Focus 203 topics was chosen months earlier, it opened up a public chance to discuss the racist act which took place at Naperville Central High School was posted on Craigslist that read “Slave for sale (NAPERVILLE).
Superintendent Dan Bridges spoke of the incident saying, racist acts have no place in District 203.
“As educational institutions we really are the center hub of this community,” said Bridges. “We have an important role not only to educate our kids that racism and hatred don’t have a place anywhere. We must value the dignity uniqueness of each individual we’re going to take on the responsibility.”
The district said it has seen a spike in racial slurs this year, and will continue to investigate why that is.

Naperville's Restaurant Week Serves Up Specials
Whether it’s fine dining or family-friendly, Naperville’s Restaurant Week is offering tasty deals that even picky eater can be happy with.
“So this is fifth year for Restaurant Week and this year we have over 40 restaurants that are participating and if you think about that, that’s huge because a lot of towns don’t even have 40 restaurants,” said President of the Naperville Development Partnership Christine Jeffries. “It runs from January 26 through February 8.”
For upscale date night try Fogo De Chao, Meson Sabika, and 64 Wine Bar, which are offering prix fixe meals.
“Other fine dining – Catch 35 has a fabulous menu of seafood and steak. Hugo’s Frog Bar, which is a longtime participant in Restaurant Week, has an amazing menu, and Sullivan’s Steakhouse. So as we go throughout the town and in the downtown for our steak and seafood houses are putting out some fabulous deals so this is the time to take that special someone out for a discount on some really fine dining,” explained Jeffries.
While spots such as Lou Malnati’s and Nando’s are serving up daily discounts for casual, family-friendly meals.
“Naperville is the best place to raise children so obviously it’s important that our restaurants cater to families,” said Jeffries. “So if we look at Little Italian Pizza they’re offering a full package of pizza and appetizers and salads and dessert so it’s a great some place to enjoy some place new but bring the kiddos with you.”
Looking to play with your food? Then head outside of downtown to dine at Topgolf or Hollywood Palms Cinema, where you can have some fun while grabbing a bite.
And Restaurant Week always includes a deal for four-legged friends.
“Two Bostons has a special for restaurant week where they’d provide a meal for your pet,” said Jeffries.
