The Dorset Bookshop, Blandford, Dorset, UK
The incomparable Dorset Bookshop. Established in 1950 in this unspoilt Georgian building. Enjoy the tour!
Video of the day | Town of Books
We visit a French town in the Loire Valley that is famous for its book market and numerous book stores. La Charité-sur-Loire a small medieval town on the Loire River with a magnificent church, picturesque narrow streets and an astonishing number of bookshops. Many of them are on the towns main street. Christian Valleriaux was the towns first bookshop owner. He returned to his home town in 1992 after spending 25 years in Paris.
38, South View Road, Bath, UK
Here is the house in all its glory!
The first bed room you'll see is about 15 ft by 14 ft (the bed was huge too)
The other bedroom was 10ft by 8 ft and the other two bedrooms (shown locked in the video) were exactly the same.
The Rent is GBP 295/month for the big room and GBP 280/month for the small rooms.
The deposit is approximately GBP 300/month. (will finalise the updated values with landlord)
Overall the house is not as good as the one we are living in now because of its a bit smaller (and does not have a dryer). The floor is carpeted and will be hard to keep clean and there isnt as much storage room as in our current house ( So im going to ave to get rid of the luggage I've been lugging around since concord. But it is double glazed, unlike our current house, and will be quite warm in winter.
The locaton is very convenient. Its An 8 minute walk to sainsbury, 5 minute walk to the closest bright orange bus stop, 10 minute walk into town and to Argos and A regular bus service (No.5) that stops very close to the house. Its also quite close to the railway station (oldfied park railway station)....though thats only better for me!
More details on the house are in the eamil i sent you.
We are still looking!

Roger McGough in Bath - As Far As i Know
One of Britain's best loved and best known poets is still writing as inventively as ever, albeit with the changing perspective that getting older brings. As Far as I Know is a new collection filled with McGough's characteristic wit and wordplay.

Reza Mahammad - Reza's Indian Spice
Topping's love any excuse to cook in the bookshop, and this evening they'll be giving you tastings from this hugely enthusiastic, modern, and very endearing chef who delights as much in the seasonal ingredients from the UK as those from India. His latest book Reza's Indian Spice is crammed with delicious recipes with unique twists. An unforgettable and enigmatic evening where the audience was treated to french beans with sesame seeds, chicken koftas and home made chutney.

Michael Palin on Brazil
We were all hugely excited to invite the inimitable Michael Palin to Topping & Company Booksellers and the Bath Autumn Book Festival. This is a year in which Palin has published two books -- his second novel, The Truth, as well as a magnificent new travelogue, Brazil, which accompanies a major BBC TV series.
He gave an illustrated talk about this vast, exotic and disparate nation. Half a continent in size and a potent mix of races, religions and cultures, its unexplored wilderness make it one of the few countries Michael Palin had never yet fully travelled. A most wonderful and engaging evening.

Midnight at the nursing academy, by The Bookshop Band
STOP PRESS: help this song get recorded - the band have a few months to record all their songs - more details here:
This song is inspired by Ned Beauman's novel The Teleportation Accident (Sceptre / Hodder) and references a fictional 'rare' book of the same name as the song, which the protagonist Ergon Loeser has lost, and spends most of the novel searching for it.
Tis a brilliant read, across continents and set in that very interesting pre-WWII period. Much recommended by the band.
The song was performed when Ned came into our local bookshop, Mr B's Emporium of Reading Delights, in Bath. (

Sam Warburton in Bath - Refuse to Be Denied
Welsh Rugby Captain Sam Warburton gives a personal account of an incredible year in Rugby history.
In the Summer of 2011, at the age of only 22, Sam Warburton was asked to captain his country, leading Wales into the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.
The team's scintillating progression through the tournament reached a nail-biting height as Wales met France in the semi-final. With a nation's hopes resting on his shoulders, Warburton made that tackle on Vincent Clerc and was shown the red card. Outcry ensued, and the Wales captain experienced great lows despite being named Player of the Tournament by many commentators.
Picking himself up from the suffocating media attention, Warburton was determined to rectify Welsh fortunes and strode into the Six Nations. Battling injuries, he led Wales to an absolutely magnificent Six Nations triumph.

BOTTOM FALLS OUT OF 2ND HAND BOOKS - CHARING X RD LONDON UK
Charing X Rd - once the centre of 2nd HAND BOOKS in LONDON - has had more than its share of shops close in recent years - Borders for one and then a lot on the way down to Leic Sq Station. Here is one where they disposed of all the books for £1 each. You could almost weep for sadness. Or film it for posterity.
