The Sringeri #Sharada Peetham is located on the banks of River Tunga in the Chikkamagalur district of Karnataka. The Sringeri Temple was the first of the four Ammaya Peetham established by Sri Adi Shankaracharya in 8th century AD. The word Ammaya Peetham means “Throne of the Veda”. Sri Adi Shankaracharya established four Peethams or Centers in the four corners of the country to safeguard and propagate the Vedas. The head of the Mutt is called Jagadguru meaning “Teacher of the world”. Although, the sringeri temple was established in the 8th century, the documented history is present only for the period after the 14th century.
The ritual of Aksharabhyasa performed in Sringeri Temple is considered to be sacred and fulfilling. The parents of kids in the age of 2-5 are given a slate and chalk or alternatively, a plate of rice on which they pray to Goddess Saraswati and the Guru to impart good knowledge and education to their children.
Sri Sharadamba is the presiding deity of the town of Sringeri. The original sringeri temple was small with a sandalwood idol of Goddess Sharada installed above a Sri Chakra carved by Adi Shankaracharya. Subsequently, the sringeri temple was renovated and expanded by Sri Bharati Krishna Tirtha and Sri Vidyaranya. Sri Bharati Krishna Tirtha substituted the sandalwood idol with the present golden idol.
According to the history of the sringeri temple, the 32nd Acharya of the Peetham, Jagadguru Sri Vriddha Narasimha Bharati Mahaswamiji had a vision of the Ganapati when he was contemplating on resolving and issue in the mutt affairs. He offered prayers to the image of Lord Ganapati carved on the Torana of the door nearby. The problem was resolved immediately. Since then, the Ganapati has come to be worshiped as Torana Ganapati.

Sringeri Sharada Peetha Complete Views (Part-1/2)
Sringeri is famous for the Peetha of Adi Shankaracharya. There are many guest houses by the temple trust. We took a room in the guest house. The room was simple but comfortable. After resting for a while we went to visit the temples.
There is a huge boad at the entrance of the Sharada peetha complex, showing the route map of the temple area. First there is the temple of Adi Shankaracharya. There are various images and paintings of Adi Shankaracharya depicting his life and teachings. Next to Adi Shankar temple there is Sharadamba temple. Sharadamba is the main goddess worshiped in this whole place. The peetha is named after the goddess and is called as Sharada peetha.
Next to Sharada temple, there is Vidya Shankar temple. Vidya Shankar is the name of Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva is worshiped here in the form of Linga. This is the most beautiful temple in the whole complex. There are beautiful stone pillars in this temple called as zodiac pillars. The sculpture and architecture of this temple is awesome. Apart from Sharada and Vidya Shankar temples, there are other temples like Torana Ganapati temple, Malayala Brahma temple and Kodanda Rama temple.
There is a huge Sabha mandapa or meeting place in front of Adi Shankara temple. This is a huge floor where people sit and listen to Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swamiji. Next to Sabha mandapa, there is Jagna mandapa (yaga mandapa) which is meant for jagna. There are beautiful images lord Shiva and Parvati in the yaga mandapa. There is a huge floor at these center of all these temple temples. It is very peaceful to sit on this floor and enjoy the magnificient view the temples at all sides. You can enjoy beautiful air here in the evening.
Another attraction of Sringeri is river Tunga. The river is full of fishes. It is also called as matshyadhama. People buy fried rice and feed the fishes. The fishes jump out of water in order to catch the food grains, thus making the scenery very spectacular. There is a long bridge on the river to go to the other side of the river. The bridge is called as Vidyateertha setu. I will narrate the other side of the river in the next part of the video.

Halebidu Hoysalesvara Temple Hassan tourism Karnataka tourism Temples of Karnataka Hoysala temple. Halebidu Hoysalesvara Temple or Hoysaleswara Temple()
Hoysaleswara temple, also known as the Halebidu temple, is an ancient stone carved 12th-century Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva. The Hoysaleswara temple, also spelled as Hoysaleshwara or Hoywalesvara temple, is a twin-temple, or dvikuta vimana (plan with two shrines and two superstructures). Ketumalla, the chief of staff of Hoysala Kingdom, built this temple during 1121 A.D and attributed to his king, Vishnuvardhana and queen, Shantala Devi. It is learnt that it took 105 years to complete. It is the largest temple built by the Hoysalas that is dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva in South India.
The temple has four entrances. The two temples are of the same size, and their sanctums open to the east, facing sunrise. The sanctum of the Hoysaleswara (the king) and the other for Shantaleswara (the queen, Shantala Devi) both have a Shiva linga. Outside on the east side of the main temples are two smaller shrines, each with seated Nandi. To the east of the southern Nandi shrine is a smaller attached Surya shrine, where there is a 7 feet tall Surya statue facing the Nandi and the sanctum. The temple was built with soapstone. The soapstone is soft when quarried and easier to carve into intricate shapes, but hardens over time when exposed to air.
The Hoysaleswara temple is a Shaivism tradition monument, yet reverentially includes many themes from Vaishnavism and Shaktism tradition of Hinduism, as well as images from Jainism. The Hoysaleswara temple is a twin-temple dedicated to Hoysaleswara and Santaleswara Shiva lingas, named after the masculine and feminine aspects, both equal and joined at their transept. It has two Nandi shrines outside, where each seated Nandi face the respective Shiva linga inside. The temple includes a smaller sanctum for the Hindu Sun god Surya. It once had superstructure towers, but no longer and the temple looks flat. The temple faces east, though the monument is presently visited from the north side. Both the main temples and the Nandi shrines are based on a square plan. The temple artwork provides a pictorial window into the life and culture in the 12th century South India. About 340 large reliefs depict the Hindu theology and associated legends. Numerous smaller friezes narrate Hindu texts such as the Ramayana, the Mahabharata and the Bhagavata Purana. The temple was built on the banks of a large man-made lake, and sponsored by King Vishnuvardhana of the Hoysala Empire. Its construction started around 1121 CE and was complete in 1160 CE. During the early 14th century, Halebidu was twice sacked and plundered by the Muslim armies of Delhi Sultanate from northern India, and the temple and the capital fell into a state of ruin and neglect. The artwork in Hoysaleswara temple is damaged but largely intact. Within a few kilometers of the temple are numerous ruins of Hoysala architecture. The temple along with the nearby Jain Temples and the Kedareshwara temple, along with the Kesava temple in Belur have been proposed to be listed under UNESCO World Heritage Sites
The Hoysaleswara Temple is located in Halebidu, also called Halebeedu, Halebid, Dorasamudra.

At a distance of 29 km from Devgad, 73 km from Malvan and 100 km from Ratnagiri, Vijaydurg Fort is an ancient fort situated on a hill near the mouth of the Vaghotan River in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra. It is one of the largest forts on the Konkan coast of Maharashtra and also one of the top places to visit in Ratnagiri. It is a protected monument under ASI.
Vijaydurg Fort is located at the tip of the peninsular region of Vijaydurg in Devgad Taluka. It was earlier known as Gheria because of its proximity to the village Girye and functioned as a strong military base for Admiral Kanhoji Angre. The fort is also known as the 'Gibraltar of the East' since it was so impregnable, surrounded by the Arabian Sea from three sides.
The original fort was built by Bhojraja Shilahar between 1196 and 1206 AD. The Maratha king Shivaji took control of this fort from Adil Shahi dynasty in 1656 AD and renamed it as Vijay Durg. Thereafter the fort was the main Maratha naval base under Kanoji Angre. The fort was attacked in 1717, 1720 and 1724 AD by the British, Portuguese and Dutch - but could not be conquered. The fort was under the control of British and Peshwas in 1756 AD and remained with the Peshwas till 1818 AD. In 1818 Vijaydurg was totally fell into the hands of the British Empire.
The earlier fort encompassed an area of 5 acres and was surrounded by sea on all the 4 sides. Presently the area of fort is about 17 acres and is surrounded by Arabian Sea on three sides. Chhatrapati Shivaji extended the fort by constructing three fort walls on eastern side. According to the legend, this is one of the two forts of the Maratha kingdom, where Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj personally hoisted the saffron flag, the other fort is Torana. This impregnable fort has advantage due to its location. One such advantage is 40 km long Vaghotan/kharepatan Creek. Large size ships cannot enter the shallow water of this creek and hence Maratha warships were anchored in this creek. These ships were invisible from deep sea.
The fort is constructed using laterite stones. The fort consists of 27 bastions out of which three are three-storied. The main entrance of the fort faces the north. Out of the original imposing structure, some of the structures still remain including the storage area for food grains, prison, a huge water tank, and cannon. A 10 m high compound wall, about 300 feet away from the fort deep in the sea, has been discovered recently. It was served as a defense against attacking ships. The fort also has a 200 m long tunnel for emergency evacuation. It is believed that the region around the banks of the Vaghotan River was a dock, used by the Marathas for building and repairing their ships.
